    Super vlog. Fascinating to learn about the Coryton branch and how close the stations are to each other. :)

    Fantastic video, Cyber! The conductor on that train must spend all their time opening and closing doors when the stations are so close together. There's a little bit of suspense at the end too when we're waiting to see how things will play out!

    See I remember that when we went there for our day in August 2014(?), they didn't feel like they were that close

      Sure they were 'requests' back then as well

    Glad you enjoyed what is a unique line. The point of Ty Glas as you say is to serve the industrial estate as well as the local houses. It is actually well used as a destination station and no one hops between stations except you and G Loves Trains 😁 It's going to look odd with wires on it.

    • @Sim0nTrains
      @Sim0nTrains  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Bob, it also makes me wonder those two ladies at the end that waved were checking the line out for electrication, of the line but I have noticed that masts have started to go up

    £3.10 for 17 chains?? I'd rather walk all the way & put the £3.10 towards fish & chips lol. Thank you for sharing Simon, I am enjoying the new series. :)

    • @Sim0nTrains
      @Sim0nTrains  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Richard. That £3.10 is a standard fare all around the Valleys which was commented in this video, a standard fare is good but not for a short distance

    Great vlog Cyber! Interesting line indeed. £3 for a 17 chains Journey! 😱Them stations are seriously quite close that you could literally walk between them to save the hour waits. I enjoyed watching as always. Can’t wait for episode 3.

      Thanks Sam, what you didn't see if that I did walk from Whitchurch to Coryton, did my parts at Coryton apart from the ending, went back to Whitchurch to take the train and when I got off at Coryton, filmed the train out and did the ending when those two ladies walked by.

    • @SamsVlogstrainsmore

      @@Sim0nTrains nice way of doing it I would probably do a mixture of walking and taking the trains if stations like them are really close together.

    £3 for 17 chains? No way, would rather walk it. But, it does look a brilliant line to travel along and in a way, looks very similar to the Hadfield branch. Epic of a tour of the Valley Lines.
    Hope you don't mind me saying: Do you remember the the Manchester Challenge? Of how many trains you can ride in an hour between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Oxford Road. Had a thought of many trains can you ride in an hour between Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street.

    A brilliant video, I did have a ride on the Coryton branch back in September and I noticed how close all these stations were. Also the prices are quite ridiculous on this line indeed. The girls going through the end shot was funny. XD

    I did this route back in October. I actually discovered that its quicker to walk from Coryton to Radyr than it is to take the train (I beat it by about 10mins but i could be faster now i know the way), because the route from those two stations does like 4 sides of a pentagon. Another quirky fact is that Rhiwbina and Whitchurch Cardiff are actually on the same road! If you exit Rhiwbina, take a left and walk right to the end of the road you'll find the entrance to Whitchurch! At least Ty Glas and Birchgrove arent in the same estate let alone the same street!

    • @Sim0nTrains
      @Sim0nTrains  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did that myself walked from Coryton to Radyr and then started the 3rd video afterwards, didn't know about those two stations being on the same road.

    Top video mate this station near me well sort of lol if you catch a valley line service to merthyr or Treherbert and get off in Radyr the Coryton service starts there and goes down the old branch line in a complete u shape and terminates at Coryton and back the other way lol.

    Standard fare between any 2 stations on the valleys line crosskeys to risca about 2 miles is the same price but you can travel ebbw vale to rhymney 7.90 return good value compared to tube fares in London the coryton line is a busy route 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

    You should do a video of the TfW Class 231 and Class 756 Flirts as the Class 231 does look really impressive. And the Class 398 tram-train that is also to be built and to enter service from next year.

      @@Sim0nTrains There used to be a Coryton in Essex near Thurrock which I think used to have it's own railway. But now its located where London Gateway port is.

    When Ty Glas opened, you could not walk between them on the line's north side. The interval was wholly occupied by controversial Llanishen Royal Ordnance Factory, which made beryllium components for nuclear warheads. There were often CND demos "nuclear bomb factory" at its gate in that era. It had opened lineside in WW2 but ceased to make any freight use of rail by the time of Beeching, who tried to close this branch but the prosperous commuter belt it serves and cramped roads towards the valleys saved it. Anyway, the factory closed 2001.
    When Ty Glas opened, its siitng so close to Birchgrove was a surprise and silly, as it could have been further down and been more centrally located for the big industrial estate. But it was clearly because of that factory. Birchgrove already served its front gate, but they sited Ty Glas where it served its new opened back entrance !
    You never spotted that Rhiwbina and Whitchurch are 2 successive stations that open onto the same side street ! Pen y Dre, Welsh for end of town, is a 3/8 mile culdesac built lineside as part of the Rhiwbina Garden Village when the line was built.
