I just found out TH-cam has a little listing space for all the comments I never responded to and I can't believe how many I missed! As much as I love the solos in HIM songs, and as much as I would love to learn and teach them myself, I have come to find that something very weird happens when a person is playing an acoustic guitar by themselves and singing, when they try to switch to a solo. Without the benefit of other instruments, the flow and presentation kind of grinds to a halt when you start doing a solo. Or at least when I do, haha. I definitely gear all of my tutorials toward the idea of one person sitting there with his or her guitar, singing, which is why solo stuff never comes up. However, whenever I can figure out a way to imitate a riff using some little chord tricks, I do, because the closer I can make these to the vibe of the real songs, the better. Thanks for the question! Sorry it took 2 months to reply!
@@MrTomfooligans Understandable how playing comes to a halt when doing solos as opposed to electric guitar [I don't have one, just a guess]. I do find your tutorials very helpful though and easy to pick up. I like to play with the song when someone is singing as not only does anxiety kick in when I do [worry I would screw up] but I can follow it as close to the song as possible which the way I do things. Lol, that's ok, I forgot what I commented anyway haha
Hi, József. I'm not very good at sticking to consistent strum patterns. It's something I need to practice more! But my attitude for this song was to emphasize quarter-note down strums above all else. The song is in 4/4 time, so just make sure you're strumming down four beats per measure, and from there, you can add up-strums in-between if you feel they would be a good fit. The other thing is you can try to double-strum your root note on each chord to simulate the presence of a bass line.
That track is on the EP, and right now, my "do tutorials for all the HIM songs" plan is fixed just on the albums. When I get to the end of them, I'll try to go back and revisit the EP and demos :)
