    Jane - Great content; one thing I’ve observed with students who self teach using desktop simulators is they develop bad habits. Recently I saw one such student pilot disagree with three commercial pilots, all instructors (one was an airline check and training captain) because their answer didn’t aline with his understanding following self tuition.

      Thank you! I totally agree with your view. For me personally, I never play flight sim, and I turn out alright as a pilot. I think the sim will only beneficial after the start of training, so the student has the basic idea, and then practice what the instructors have taught them.

      @@studybeforeflight - the only simulators in my early days were Link Trainers, I even recall doing part of an instrument rating renewal in one; I’ve since flown Level 6 simulators, that’s a completely different experience. But as you say students need to learn the basics; I was lucky, my original flying instructor was a WW2/Korean War fighter pilot veteran who instructed to a standard not a price.

    Hello I am Paul. I live in the suburd of Berala in Sydney. I just turned 63. I started learning to fly when I was 22 but one flaw in my theory was getting involved with the women I ended up marrying and eventually devorcing. I could not afford both being involved and flying. Any I watched a video on Angle Flights which is a Charity Organization that provides free flights for people needing to attend medical organizations for appointments but are hindered by distance and or cost free of charge. The wonderful Pilots donate their time and aircraft for free. the Pilots nee about 500 hours and 250 of those hours as Pilot in command. A Pilot does not need to own the aircraft and can also operate as a co-pilot on some flights. Anyway this has spurred me on and to get my act to actually go for my Pilot License and am looking forward to the challenge. Take care and God Blees to everyone.

    Hi Jane, thanks for answering our questions. Its good to know that 30 is not too old to learn to fly, but how about getting a regional airline pilot job?

    • @studybeforeflight
      @studybeforeflight  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some airlines do have the age limit at 32, some don't. The reason behind is that they want to invest on someone who can become a captain and serve longer. It is hard to say on the chance on getting any job. Even a 20 years old can miss on a job. Ultimately age is not the only thing they look at. I do have a friend who is in his 40s who got in Virgin Australia as a second officer flying a jet, however, he worked as a flight attendant for them before, there is connection.

    Is language difficult to understand when contacting tower? Is RPL enough just for hobby? Thanks

    • @studybeforeflight
      @studybeforeflight  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In Aviation, we have something called Aviation English, pilots and air traffic controllers will use standard aviation terminology to communicate. You will learn that when doing the theory and during flying as well. Once you get used it, it is actually easier to understand Aviation English than the Aussie English haha..
      RPL is enough for hobby, but you can fly within 25nm of the airport, PPL is also for hobby, and you can fly anywhere in Australia and possibly anywhere in the world once you have done the licence conversion.

    Should i study bachelor in aviation or diploma in aviation? What will be the main difference in regards to job opportunities. I am really confused as we need CPL to become a pilot which we get from studying diploma course too.

    • @studybeforeflight
      @studybeforeflight  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As for pilot qualifications from both courses, they are the same, you will get at least CPL plus possibly multi engine instrument rating, this is the norm for all integrated courses in any schools in Australia.
      As for "non-flying" related, meaning the academic units included in the courses, they are different. I suggest you have a look on both course curriculum.
      For job opportunities, it doesn't matter if you have a degree or diploma, as long as you have a CPL, you are "employable". Simply put, you could get a CPL from any flying school at an airport.

    How many days in a week normally should we attend university if we are doing bachelors in aviation for 3years? What is full time-duration? Can we earn doing part-time job.Please reply .❤️

    • @studybeforeflight
      @studybeforeflight  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can only speak for UNSW, since I was from there.
      For the whole year 1, it is academic stuff at uni, maybe 3 or 4 days a week, depends on how you manage your class schedule.
      For the whole year 2, at least 5 days a week including ground theory classes and flying training.
      For the first half year 3, back to main campus for more academic stuff, so 3-4 days. Second half of year 3, 5 days a week for theory and training.
      You can certainly do part time as long as you have good time management. Many of my classmates had part time during my time at UNSW.
