    I've done 13 podcasts already. 5 phone interviews and it was really easy to work with. Just grabbed a couple of Rode Podmic's couple of weeks ago and it powers them just fine.

      Do you use the recording option built into the board if so once you decide to edit the files, do you have to edit each individual file or is it all put together. Trying to start my own.

    In all your video tutorials, you are just telling us what the mixer can do without showing us how it is done. I don't consider your videos as tutorials. Manufacturers must make tutorials for easy use. For instance, when you tell us that you can load your own sound effect to the sound pads, then you show us how it is done.
    Thank you for showing us all the good features.

    • @robfriedrich2822
      @robfriedrich2822 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, the differences aren't big. It seems, that there aren't some functions to save energy, because the L-8 runs with 5 V and the L-12 with 12 V and needs 2 ampere/h.
      The biggest difference is the part EQ, the L-12 has adjustable Mid EQ frequency in EVERY input
      The second biggest, the L-12 has one knob compressors in the XLR ins.
      The third biggest, 8 instead 6 XLR inputs and some more effects.
      It's pretty nice, that there are separate buttons for scenes, fader groups and an extra knob for chosing the effect.
      Well, one thing the L-12 can't do.
      No buttons to instantly play some wave files as jingles or backings or whatever you may need.

    Interesting! But will you activate more features through the companion app in the future? Especially a compressor per channel, finer eq (more bands, etc.) per channel, noise gates, would be nice!

    • @robfriedrich2822
      @robfriedrich2822 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a good reason, why the L-12 runs on 12 V (instead the 5 V of the L-8) and that the L12 needs 2 A/h (the L8 needs 0.8 A/h). All the things you mention are possible, but would need more energy.
      On the other hand, you speak about a unit, that is far from a multitrack recorder/ Pod Cast mixer and costs the double or triple price and can't run on batteries.

    I'm using my Zoom L8 in a small home music studio. I have the main outs connected to studio monitors. I have also connected a keyboard and a couple of mics. Is there a way to record a channel or mix to the computer or card without it playing through the main outputs? I would like to use one of the headphone channels while recording to avoid feedback problems with the mics.

    Using only the L8 for vocal harmonies.
    How do I :
    -Record a track with a Mike
    -Select another track with the mike plugged into that track.
    -Monitor the first track, while recording the second.
    Can't hear the fist recording while recording the second track.
    When I press record with track 2 in record mode(red) the track 1 play mode (green) button turns off and I can't hear what I just recorded.

    Hello @ZoomSoundLab - i want to use the L8 as class compliant audio device (with IOS or a Linux laptop) whil ebeing USB powered, as battery power only last vetry short. But when trying to switch to IOS mode in the settings, it keeps saying "disconnect USB cable" - and it seems not to be enough that the USB cable is not connected to anything but a powered USB hub. It insists to physically remove any cable from the devices plug. Which then renders it without power.
    So it seems i can only switch to class compliant/iOS mode with batteries, is that right? If so, Is there a chance this is fixed in a firmware upgrade?

    • @ZoomSoundLab
      @ZoomSoundLab  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need AA batteries in the device to enable the iOS Audio Interface setting. This may be able to be addressed through firmware. We apologize for the inconvenience.

    I got a question while evaluating this agains the RodeCaster Pro. Usually I connect with some attendees thru Skype in the PC, and other in a phone call. Is that possible in this one. I read that if you plug in a phone in 7/8 you cannot use LINE 7. My idea was using 7 in USB to get audio from the PC and set 8 to phone to interconnect the phonecall. My attendees in Skype will receive the audio from USB I guess. And that come another question to my mind... can in the USB do a mix-minus in order to the Skype attendees not listen themselves? Thank you in advance.

    • @ZoomSoundLab
      @ZoomSoundLab  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use the TRRS phone input and one USB return simultaneously. There is no mix-minus for the USB return, but Skype does have a feature to reduce this feedback/echo.

      @Arriaga Two No se si te he entendido bien, pero si el audio de Skype entra por USB, simplemente le bajas el volumen en el 7 o el 8 (según el USB que uses) y subes el volumen por donde estés metiendo la música (que para facilitar la configuración debería ser otro equipo distinto del PC, por ejemplo un móvil) conectado a otro canal, por ejemplo el 6 a la toma de LINE. ¿No? Es que teóricamente lo puedes hacer desde el mismo PC, pero es más complicado pues tienes que conectar la mesa por USB y por la salida de cascos a otro canal, poner en las opciones de WIndows que el audio por defecto va por la toma de cascos y configurar Skype manualmente para que la entrada y salida la haga por USB. De ese modo el reproductor de música saldrá por la toma de cascos a la mesa y el Skype usará el USB para funcionar. Ya te digo que es más fácil meter la música en unos de los bancos de efectos de la mesa o meterla por un móvil que es lo que hago yo en mi mesa (Yamaha MG12XU).

    • @robfriedrich2822
      @robfriedrich2822 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      But with the 3 band equalizer with FIXED frequencies, it's sometimes hard to fight against feedback.
      You can't do a perfect cut, when the unwanted frequency is between 2.5 and 10 kHz, it could be, that it ruins the sound, when you try to get rid it. The same, when it is between 100 Hz and 2.5 kHz.

    Clearly this is a podcaster first board, so with that in mind is this your answer to the rodecaster pro. This is checking a lot of boxes for me that the rodecaster is missing.

    • @dmaudsley
      @dmaudsley 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First and last, surely? What more do you need for podcasting? Don’t get me wrong, you can get by with less, but I’m interested in what MORE you’d want.

    • @Alex_3311DesignCo
      @Alex_3311DesignCo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      dmaudsley first of all, call me stubborn, my current setup is running through a Behringer mixer, and the lack of knobs on the rodecaster make me feel like I wouldn’t be in so much control of what I currently believe gives my Show the sound I’ve had for years.
      I’ve never used the rodecaster and maybe it’s just having to get use to the fact that it can do so much for you. And no need to tinker. This adds that function plus everything I love from the pro.

    • @Alex_3311DesignCo
      @Alex_3311DesignCo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      dmaudsley guess what I’m trying to say is, my current setup gives me that sound I know and love. This may get me there with some extras I would love to have now. The onboard recording the sound pads and such. I think for the price this is an incredible alternative to the rodecaster.

    • @dmaudsley
      @dmaudsley 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Irreverent Show I get you. If you’re an experienced podcaster and you’ve engineered a sound you like then I could see how it’s a bit of a dilemma as to whether you give that up for the slickness of one or these.
      I think, though, for 99% of podcasters (including pros) there is nothing more that you need than this or a Rodecaster Pro. They’re definitely not some kind of dumbed down ‘My First Podcast Recorder’ - although they’re so simple to use that a complete novice could use either of them.

    • @Alex_3311DesignCo
      @Alex_3311DesignCo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      dmaudsley yea I’ve been doing it on and off for 10 years so I’m that guy who’s like I like recording on tape cause of the hiss and sound of analog tape. But if and when I get to really try the pro or this if it matches or cuts done on any post work then the price would totally be worth it.
      On a board such as this most of post processing gets cut down cause I dial in the eq and stuff right on the board. But definitely I think very few podcasters care as much as I do. So something like this or the pro is definitely a no brainer.

    Can you playback multiple recorded tracks on the Zoom sd card or do you have to use a daw?

    • @robfriedrich2822
      @robfriedrich2822 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are rec/playback buttons what means, you could also mix in the L-8. But better would be to mix it in the computer. You could also use Audacity and you have more possibilities, as better equalizer, compression, effects.
      When you doesn't need it to be powered by batteries, you never uses the sound pads and you also doesn't want to include a person who calls you, the L-12 or L-20 could be better to you. They has a better mixing console with more equalizer, one knob compression.

      When you want to go sure on the one hand and will save energy on the other hand, there are some solutions to provide phantom power. One would be the ART Phantom II Pro, you can add phantom power for up to two microphones and keep the flexibility, to connect anything to the XLR ins.

    I doesn't use batteries anymore. They doesn't last long. I have an USB prowerbank with 10000 mAh, that is much better.
    I figured out, that the L8 seems to need 0.8 Ampere/h, this explains, why batteries needs to be replaced.
    I use it outdoor for music (I feed a MAUI 5 go twinset). Well the effects are amazing, but less amazing is the limited equalizer, what has fixed frequencies and also there are no one knob compressors in the inputs.
    I can understand, that this would need too much power, but in my case it isn't good.
    My solution is to use a TC Helicon Mic Mechanic or Duplicator before the Zoom input and to use in the TC the tone function only, so I can fix the singer's sound.
    Persons who speak can cause some feedback, hadn't this problem when I used it for the first time, but I didn't use additional monitor speakers.
    At the moment, I feed my monitor speakers from the main speakers' through and get everything to the monitors.
    I tried L-8 monitor outputs, but possibly I did something wrong or there isn't something working. I will check it and test it.
