    From another Caribbean woman, born and bred, it is ABOUT TIME this was addressed.

    It’s a far cry from the life of Her Imperial Majesty Empress Mennen Asfaw who shared state responsibilities with her husband His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie 1st. The Ethiopian Christians allowed women to divorce long before the west and women have held leadership roles there for thousands of years. His and Her Imperial Majesties were close friends of the suffragette Sylvia Pankhurst and named her an honorary Ethiopian and burial in Addis Ababa.

    Her experience is not too far off from other dominant patriarchal societies. Such as in Africa, India, Asia, and Middle Eastern countries.

    As a Rastafarian, I feel sad for what she went through, and I'm happy she could liberate herself from such an oppressive upbringing. Women should be cherished, respected and protected, but should also be free to pursue their own path in life free from patriarchal demands. His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Haile Selassie I, the highest earthly source of authority for Rastafarians, was a relatively progressive man for his time who for the first time introduced female education to the country, universal suffrage and encouraged women in the professional sphere. One of the Emperor's closest and most respected friends was Sylvia Pankhurst, a well known and widely respected English feminist activist who lived in the Imperial palace for several years, encouraged by Haile Selassie to aid with women's development. She received a full state funeral at which Haile Selassie named her "an honorary Ethiopian". I believe many Rastafarians are blinded by conservative and reactionary ideals that were not actually promoted by Haile Selassie, but are rather a result of their own non-Rastafarian, conservative Christian and conservative traditional Caribbean and African cultural backgrounds. God willing, If I am ever blessed with daughters, they will be free to chart their own path in life, Rastafarian or not.

      Absolutely, these story this girl is telling here is made up exaggerated lies to sell a story. She’s fake this is a put-together interview, and a waste of time to watching. It makes no sense, she is speaking about a lifestyle she knows nothing about. I could imagine the samething goes for her book "trash". A big disrespect to the Rastafarian culture/community's. The rastafarians are practically nazarites. They follow the bible with the exception that they believe haile Selassie due to his bloodline back to king David was the representation of God on earth. I wonder why they wouldn't mention anything else about the religion other than its strict.

    • @forward_ever_ever2595
      @forward_ever_ever2595 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They are lost in terms of whom they consider the King. They read parts of the scripture but lack Wisdom to truely understand God's word. "Lean not on your own understanding" & thats what they don't understand. Wisdom must be asked for, it is not just given. You will go nowhere if u dont humble yourself to God. In psalms 66 it refers to God as Jah. Rastafarians took this and added to Jah, Selassi title..."Jah ras tfari...the latter being Hallie Sallasie title (surname). They forgot or dont understand the scripture of "those who added or take away from the scripture, a portion of theirs shall be taken away from them, from the tree of life"

    Congratulations on her book. I pray it will not be misleading. She mentions she wants the reader to take away what a real Jamaican ordinary life is like. I am not sure her experience is a representation of real ordinary jamaican life.

    Her father in belief would of been no different to bob Marley depending on the branch of Rastafarianism he practiced. Any parent trying to raise his daughter in a cultural belief system that wants to preserve itself in a post colonial setting would try their best to implement a path. But depending on an individual it will be implemented differently. Take the royal family of the UK do you think what Charles does his sisters can do. Can women who are Windsors wear what ever they want short skirts leggings showing a Camel toe. You all know the answer to that. Rasta daughters are royalty

Well ,now she's living however she wants, & even making money off of said Rastafarian faith that she's so against.

    Make sure you marry a woman who is on the same page as you, Imagine the Father having a plan, and his wife undermining it, betrayal never comes from those who are not close to you. Also, Rasta is FOR something, more than it is AGAINST something, it is quite telling that from this interview you have ZERO idea what Rasta is FOR...
