you could say that about Lars Mikkelsens acting also! Such a great choice for the voice and on screen. His classical training and serious attitude about acting as a trade is spot on! it is funne because him and his brother a quite different in that aspect; For example Mads Mikkelsen has made alot of comedy movies and commercials.... Lars never made commercials because he feels like it dialutes his chosen trade and he prefers serious roles with alot of depth. (Not saying Mads isn't capable of that either. Just pointing out they have different approaches to what they do.
I love every time Hondo shows up. He's so unapologetic about his goals and love for PROFIT! "The stories I could tell, so many of them true" The voice actor, Jim Cummings (Winnie the Pooh, Pete), really does a fantastic job playing him.
4:20 By the way: The male mandalorian from the super commandos is Gar Saxon. First lieutenant under Maul, afterwards loyal to the empire and vice roy of Mandalore. (Saxon even freed Maul when he was captured by Sidious in the comic „Son of dathomir“, Holden.)
Fenn Rau is the one that is the leader of the protectors, and he got captured last season, when the Rebels were on a mission to get safe passage through Concord Dawn
It's not super well explained and you kinda have to figure it out yourself, but a lot has happened on Mandalore in between the end of clone wars and the beginning of rebels. Fen Rau and his Protectors were part of the royal guard that protected Dutchess Satine in the Clone Wars. Meanwhile, Gar Saxon is part of the group of Death Watch that stayed loyal to Maul. The Death Watch who were loyal to Maul joined the Empire. The rest of Mandalore is basically subservient to those who joined the Empire. A lot also happens in between the end of Rebels' Mandalore arc and the beginning of The Mandalorian, which is also not super well explained but I won't get into that as it spoils some Rebels stuff to come.
The Mandalorian guy, Rao, is the dude Kanan captured by pulling him out his own starfighter and jumping into the Phantom back in Season 2 in that episode when Sabine wanted to kill the Mandalorians that were preventing them from passing through some system and Kanan wanted to talk to their leader because they'd fought in the same battle back in the Clone Wars.
I wonder sometimes if my memory is just really good compared with most. Cuz when it comes to shows and films, I tend to remember every character 80 percent of the time. Even if I watch a show or film once or twice… and I saw this probably only five times when it came out?
1:28 Fenn Rau is the Mandalorian Protectorate who shot down Hera Syndulla in season 2. He's voiced by Kevin McKidd, who also happens to be the voice actor for Soap MacTavish from the COD Modern Warfare trilogy
Mandalorians have a long and proud history of working for whoever pays them. They are only loyal to Mandalore, but they have worked for/with just about everyone you can think of. Including the ancient Sith Empire.
The treasure hunting episode's a guilty pleasure for me. I hate Asmorigan but I love the danger of "Get what you came for while this ship is going down"
The YT-2400 was made famous in the 1996 classic Shadows of the Empire on Nintendo, 64. Thrawn made his first appearance in the trilogy of novels produced way back in 1991 in the novle Heir to the Empire. He is a Chiss. Disney retconned their appearance slightly. Originally their eyes had no pupils, and they were like glowing red jewels. So it was almost impossible to tell exactly what the Chase would be focused on when he’s conversing or looking at something. Thrawn what is a military expert long before joining the empire. In both continuities, his exploits are legendary, but he is the political threat to most of his contemporaries in the Imperial Navy.
I feel both like Jen and Holden when it comes to Hondo. He is a hillarious character to watch and I love him for it, but no way in hell I would want anything to do with him in real life. :D
Fenn Rau and Gar Saxon are played by Kevin McKidd and Ray Stevenson, who were best friends Titus Pullo and Lucius Vorenus is the AWESOME hbo show ROME 13th FOREVER!!!!! RIP Ray
Can't wait to see more of Sabine and her family. The Mandalorians play such an important part of her history and how her family got involved with the Empire. Plus the reintroduction of other well known characters.
It makes sense that Gar Saxon serves the Empire. Maul threw him under the bus in the Clone Wars finale. Remember, "Die well, Mandalorian." Saxon probably made a deal with the empire.
The voice of the Protector in jail with Sabine is actor Kevin KcKidd. He is most known for being Dr. Owen Hunt on Grey's Anatomy, but he was also Poseidon in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.
If you want to learn more about Thrawn then you might want to consider audio books. I've grown to enjoy listening to them while I'm driving. There's 3 that came out after he was introduced to this series. I was introduced to him through the Thrawn trilogy that came out years before this series so I knew he was right away. The first book is call Heir to the Empire. Is a great series.
In episode 9, the droids they faced off against are called Dark Troopers, and they have a past with Star Wars going back to an old first person shooter called Dark Forces in the 1980's. Only recently they have made appearances in The Mandalorian and The Bad Batch, the latter of which is going to show how the Dark Trooper came to be created.
One thing you should know, but I'm sure you do because I'm sure you're finished with the show by now is this: There are zero side quests in Rebels. Nothing is filler. Even the things that feel like filler in the moment come back around. Rebels utilizes setup and payoff so much better than anything else in animated Star Wars even could.
The only exposure you’ve had to Mandalorians is the Mandalorian?! You watched The Clone Wars, Jen! You had several episodes of that show which focused on the Mandalorians on the planet Mandalor!
13:38 I am kinda shocked, I gotta say, that Holden never hadn't read any of the Expanded Universe (now Legends) books from back in the day! For a long time, they *WERE* the sequels to the original trilogy! Thrawn originated in the EU novels, and, so far, they've kept him pretty true to that characterization!
"I'm saying, how we choose to fight is just as important as what we fight for" If you recall a lesson Yoda was teaching Ezra in season 2 was "How jedi choose to fight the question is". This moment is important, it means Ezra learned the lesson Yoda was teaching him
Rebels is about ten years before Mandalorian season three, so a LOT happens with the Mandos between now and then & some of which we'll see in this season!
at this point the empire hadn't blown up mandalore cause its in control of it with mando imperial governor saxon leading it so thats why some mandos work with the empire
After the fall of the old republic, the empire had a clear occupation force on Mandalore. Remember duchess Satine was killed mall was deposed administer. All Mac is dead. Bo Catan is the last surviving leader of Mandalore, and she turned the empire down when they offered her the position as head of the mentor in government under the emperor. Mandalorians didn’t have a military force of large enough to beat the empire so she asked if I remember for clan what is the system with the remnants of her death watch. The emperor still needed a viceroy to lead and he gave it to Saxon, a prisoner of war. Mind you, because he was captured by the clones, after maul was beaten. Sabine made it pretty clear. There was an imperial academy on the capital of Sundari and she attended that school. With no formal government, the Empire basically took control without any resistance. As it is made clear, Mandalorian’s follow strength, empire has the greatest strength in the galaxy. Mom Gideon from the Mandalorian was ISB. In fact, he had the same job that agent Kallus has in the system. After the fall of the empire, he became a de facto Moff what has a very intimate knowledge of Mandalorian culture and history. He was living among them as an imperial for decades. He was there when the planet fell.
9:03 Too bad you missed it, a line I personally really like was here. After Ezra falls on Chopper, Chopper beeps a few times and Ezra says "I know it was an accident" and I think it's really funny lol
Fenn Rau was captured in season two episode 13 He was the leader of the Mandalorian Protectors who Sabine challenged to get an injured Hera back and safe passage for the rebel fleet.
The Mandalorian based episode was a continuation of a season 2 plotline, so thats why it felt like it hit the ground running. They had catured Fen Rau, the leader of that sect of Mandalorians, so we picked up the episode seeing that hes still captured by our gang. Also Gar Saxon was the second in command for Maul back in the Siege of Mandalore. At the end, Maul refuses to help him as he's about to escape. So we see that Gar Saxon and some of his Maul loayalists get captured. The Empire was literally hiurs away from forming so yeah probably when the switch happened, they immediately claimed loyalty to the Empire.
Thrawn was first introduced a book trilogy way back in 1991. The first book is called Heir to the Empire and is set 5 years after Return of the Jedi. the Second book is called Dark Force Rising and the third is called The Last Command. If you enjoy reading about a very expanded Star Wars universe then I would suggest starting there. As of now the timeline has Luke being a new Jedi Master of a New Order and his son Ben is either in love with or has Married a Sith Lord name Vestara Khai (although she might no STILL be a Sith for obvious reasons.
The imperial super Commandos concept goes all the way back to the creation of Empire strikes back. Boba Fett’s armor was a first run for a new style of storm trooper. The super commando, but The super commanders that were going to escort, dark Vader around cloud city basically never got made. Instead of the one suit of white, Alma got changed repainted and weathered and became the character known as Boba Fett, but the concept of the Super commando never went away. In legends, both the super commando and the protectors were different military factions of the ancient Mandalorian dating back in the last 4000 years of history. Do you remember back in the Canon by the show making them super Commandos and Mandolorian and they serve the Empire and even brought back some of the original color scheme of that first run of armor made all the way back in 1982.
propulsion in Star wars does NOT use combustion, Holden. So while it may LOOK like chopper has "flames" coming out of his thruster, they are not flames. Just like Iron Man; those aren't flames that propel him. They're some form of electro-magnetic propulsion. That explains why Mandalorians can have extremely intense jet packs firing off right next to their asses and not so much as get marked.
I think the best clone wars is > the best rebels. But I think overall, Rebels is tighter and has a much higher floor. It's worst episodes are > a LOT of Clone Wars epidodes! Clone Wars has WAY more bad/dull episodes that dont lead to much payoff.
-Mandalorian stuff builds up for greater stuff... The kind of stuff that made The Mandalorian show happen in the first place. -Iron Squadron is such a dumb episode however, the main reason it exists is just so that Filoni could include some fanservice from legends: The freighter that the Iron Squadron used is a ship of the same model as the ship of Dash Rendar who is the protagonist of the "Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire" videogame. Other than that, it is as filler of an episode as it gets (if we stretch it, maybe we can see a little bit of the Thrawn-Constantine "professional relationship" but that's all) -I also love Hondo, he is so much fun, and when he appears, it is so funny, he is such a cartoonish parody of Jack Sparrow and I'm all for it, of course Ezra is such a fool for trusting someon like that but at least that's a good excuse to see him more often.
I hope Ezra will be in the Ashoka show since Ezra and Sabines friendship is one of the best in Star Wars right up there with Han and Luke, Han and Chewbacca ,Po and Finn even R2D2 and C3P0.
The good thing: After this reaction, there are only two filler episodes in the hole show left. Everything else either belongs to a longer storyline, pushes the character development of the main characters or is extremly lore-heavy. Best Regards
Episode 9 for me is the main reason I dislike Ezra sometimes. He willingly put a damgerous and time-sensitive mission at risk because his ego couldn't handle someone else being in charge.
Mandalorians are not unified. They could have beaten the Empire if they hadn't been fighting among themselves. Constantly infighting - think of it as Game of Thrones (or Dune). House Vizsla at odds with House Kryze at odds with House Wren at odds with House Rau at odds with House Saxon - apparently no one agrees with anyone else for very long. Why can't everyone just get along?
I dont like Hondo in Rebels. He went from a wildcard pirate king in TCW to an unemployed drunk uncle that the family can’t be bothered pretending isn’t a joke. “Ho ho kiddies, it’s adventure time, come along with uncle hondo”
I feel like Holden is misunderstanding The Force; greatly. Just because The Force itself is a near ALL POWERFUL energy, it doesn't mean that it is unlimited on everything around it. It's not that the droid is particularly strong, it's that Ezra isn't as strong as you expect him to be. Just because he CAN move a few things, it doesn't mean he can stop ANYTHING. Especially when it is actively resisting him. You have that same misconception of Vader based on being a Vader Fanboy. You LOVE him so much that you simply ignore logic and reason where he's concerned. Here's just a little bit of lore for you that isn't really spoken of on screen. The dark Side actually takes a physical toll on the Force Wielder, so AS Anakin he had far greater potential than as the cybernetic Vader. Also the cybernetics are all shoddy and clunky "on purpose." Palpaitine CHOSE to NOT give Anakin state of the art cybernetics to punish him. He's utterly dependant on the life support systems in his cybernetics and they almost constantly cause him a great deal of physical pain. He's not quite as "beefed up" as you like to believe he is. He's ALWAYS fighting on two fronts. His opponents AND his own failing health.
Come on Holden, that blind man on the guns comment was just bad. You KNOW Kanan can "see" more than all of them combined. YES he's perfect to be on the guns.
Yeah Mart gives me serious Jett (from Avatar: The last Airbender) vibes. Just ignorant to his very core. There's no redeeming someone THAT dumb. The most merciful you can do is let them die.
Thrawn is the type of character whose presence commands every scene he is in, glad that you both want to see more of him.
you could say that about Lars Mikkelsens acting also!

"The stories I could tell, so many of them true"
The voice actor, Jim Cummings (Winnie the Pooh, Pete), really does a fantastic job playing him.
The audiobook for “Pirate’s Price” is great if you like Hondo. It’s mostly told through Hondo so he’s doing impersonations of Han and Chewie in parts.
He was the fan favorite voice of the Ranger Minsc in the old Baldur's Gate series. I hear he was replaced in the new one though.
My favorite character in star wars
4:20 By the way: The male mandalorian from the super commandos is Gar Saxon. First lieutenant under Maul, afterwards loyal to the empire and vice roy of Mandalore. (Saxon even freed Maul when he was captured by Sidious in the comic „Son of dathomir“, Holden.)
he was also the guy left behind by Maul in the Siege of Mandalore Arc
Ray Stevenson and Kevin mckidd are reunited again after the epic show ROME, titus and lucius 13th forever
The emperors right hand. Going along with Sidious was Mandalores downfall
Rest in peace
Fenn Rau is the one that is the leader of the protectors, and he got captured last season, when the Rebels were on a mission to get safe passage through Concord Dawn
And the voice of Soap in the og MW2 (09)
Fenn Rau is the guy you (Holden) said you liked a few episodes ago when he said, "I want to watch their fleet burn."
It's not super well explained and you kinda have to figure it out yourself, but a lot has happened on Mandalore in between the end of clone wars and the beginning of rebels. Fenn Rau is the Mandalorian Protectorate who shot down Hera Syndulla in season 2.

Clone wars mandalorians: Are we jokes to you ?!!!!!
The treasure hunting episode's a guilty pleasure for me. I hate Asmorigan but I love the danger of "Get what you came for while this ship is going down"
Azmorrigan's voice actor is James Hong (world record holder for most film/tv credits)
A great actor but when does voice work I just get Lo Pann. And I would kill to get Lo Pan into Star Wars.
I am pretty sure he is also the one who voices Chen from Diablo III
Also Uncle Po in Sleeping Dogs@@Klaital1

Fenn Rau is voiced by Kevin McKidd and Gar Saxon is voiced by Ray Stevenson, who just happened to be costars of the HBO series Rome.
RIP Titus Pullo. Thirteen!

Ray Stevenson will be in Ahsoka. He passed away a couple of months ago. RIP.

Sounds like you guys need to watch the Mandalore episodes in Clone Wars again. 😅
It makes sense that Gar Saxon serves the Empire. Maul threw him under the bus in the Clone Wars finale. Remember, "Die well, Mandalorian." Saxon probably made a deal with the empire.
DT Sentry Droids are a cool design for imperial droids, and one step to the dark troopers we see in Mando season 2.
The voice of the Protector in jail with Sabine is actor Kevin KcKidd. He is most known for being Dr. Owen Hunt on Grey's Anatomy, but he was also Poseidon in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.
10:10 that wow was so nerdy. 😆
I'm with Jenn on this Hondo is one of my favorites!

You guys are really spoiling us with these daily uploads. You need to have more kids immediately 😊
The only exposure you’ve had to Mandalorians is the Mandalorian?!
You watched The Clone Wars, Jen!
You had several episodes of that show which focused on the Mandalorians on the planet Mandalor!
*Jen acting like Din was the only Mando she’s ever really gotten to know when Pre Vizla from Clone Wars is sitting right there.*
13:38 I am kinda shocked, I gotta say, that Holden never hadn't read any of the Expanded Universe (now Legends) books from back in the day! I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone who hates Hondo as a character. XD I love him!
"I'm saying, how we choose to fight is just as important as what we fight for"
If you recall a lesson Yoda was teaching Ezra in season 2 was "How jedi choose to fight the question is".
This moment is important, it means Ezra learned the lesson Yoda was teaching him
Blue Vampire!!! I love it! Lmao. Kinda right you are.
I love Hondo. I hope he shows up in live action eventually.

Fenn Rau was captured in season two episode 13 He was the leader of the Mandalorian Protectors who Sabine challenged to get an injured Hera back and safe passage for the rebel fleet.
Tenn dua is voiced by Kevin mckidd ... Who played vorenus in the mini series Rome, Ray Stevenson voiced Garr Saxon played Titus pullo in Rome as well.
The Mandalorian based episode was a continuation of a season 2 plotline, so thats why it felt like it hit the ground running. They had catured Fen Rau, the leader of that sect of Mandalorians, so we picked up the episode seeing that hes still captured by our gang.

Good job Holden! You remembered the word "organ"!
The imperial super Commandos concept goes all the way back to the creation of Empire strikes back. Boba Fett’s armor was a first run for a new style of storm trooper. Chopper surfing is a meta move
I thought you guys watched clone wars? Lots of “bad “ and empire aligned mandalorians in that series.
2:46 Hey, the blurrgs had to eat, too!
the last episode is the first one i saw on disney xd my introduction to star wars

The white uniform Thrawn wears is a dead give-away that he comes strait out of Imperial Intelligence. He is a top level strategist and spy.
Hondo had better be in Ashoka or we riot.
I think the best clone wars is > the best rebels. But I think overall, Rebels is tighter and has a much higher floor. It's worst episodes are > a LOT of Clone Wars epidodes! Clone Wars has WAY more bad/dull episodes that dont lead to much payoff.
21:41 this is very interesting see how the finale played out.
Kevin Mckid plays Finn Rao (he is in Greys Anatomy and plays the DR Owen Hunt
I hope we get Kevin Mckidd in Star Wars, having him and Stevenson in this episode was awesome. Pullo and Vorenus together again.
Best thing about iron squadron is the dash rendar yt ship.
For someone who can turn anything into a dirty joke, you forget the word "organ"?
Lol Hondo makes me think of Don Karnage from Tailspin lol
Hahahaha, just looked it up, Hondo is Don Karnage, it is Jim Cummings, OG Disney voice actor from the 80s
Was that one ship the same type of ship as Dash Rendar’s Outrider?
I hope Ezra will be in the Ashoka show since Ezra and Sabines friendship is one of the best in Star Wars right up there with Han and Luke, Han and Chewbacca ,Po and Finn even R2D2 and C3P0.
The Mandalorian in prison is voiced by Kevin McKidd you might know from Greys Anatomy
RIP Ray Stevenson The voice of Gar Saxon
Connected or not. Remember that sentence.
Ray Stevenson as Gar Saxon great villain Rest easy Ray
Crazy how much they forgot about Mandalorians in Clone Wars which had some great arcs. But the mediocre Mandalorian sticks with them more.
The late great Ray stevenson voices gar saxon
Isn't that Dash Rendar's ship?
The good thing: After this reaction, there are only two filler episodes in the hole show left. Everything else either belongs to a longer storyline, pushes the character development of the main characters or is extremly lore-heavy.
Best Regards
Episode 9 for me is the main reason I dislike Ezra sometimes. He willingly put a damgerous and time-sensitive mission at risk because his ego couldn't handle someone else being in charge.

You can't stand Hondo but you love that war criminal Chopper???

Somebody recommend the Thrawn trilogy to Holden yet?
Has your wife seen An American Werewolf in London or the Final Destination films? Happy Gilmore?
Thrawn is Top G
Come on Holden, that blind man on the guns comment was just bad. You KNOW Kanan can "see" more than all of them combined. YES he's perfect to be on the guns.
Yeah Mart gives me serious Jett (from Avatar: The last Airbender) vibes. Just ignorant to his very core. There's no redeeming someone THAT dumb. The most merciful you can do is let them die.
Bruh they gotta rewatch the clone wars Mandalorian episodes again
Hondo is Holden dad confirmed

You guys should completely finish rebels before watching ahsoka.
They must be way past the end of Rebels, since there are 5 months old comments here, from Patreon.
