    Found one and preserved it in resin. Idk why but I genuinely hated handling it even though it was dead. Somthing about the face and strang body that made my skin crawl.

    These used to be all over in a store(an ocean state job lot) I worked in. I'd be sweeping the floor every morning and they'd be in their larvae like stage before they grow their wings and crawling out onto the floor with their pinchers , legs and all. I used to sweep em into my dust pan and chuck em to the birds outside.

    A male dobson fly would have large mandibles and females have smaller ones but are twice more aggressive than males, one of its nicknames is go-devil for how its mandibles look like devil horns

    i have a crested gecko that's 4 & 1/2 months and she is 13 grams. she doesn't have any fat rolls and her body fits her head. she eats a rotation of pangea watermelon, fig and insects and growth and breeding.( i feed her daily ) i also feed 6 crickets a week.( tues and fri ) i don't know if i should put her on a diet. because like i said, she dosn't look fat at ALL.

    • @SRCReptiles
      @SRCReptiles  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normally after 3 months of age you should start feeding every other day vrs every day( so for example, sunday, tuesday, thursday, ex) each gecko grows at different rates and it may be older than you think, normally they dont reach the 10 gram range till about 7 or so months, did you buy the gecko or raise this gecko since hatching to know its age?

    • @treythings7292
      @treythings7292 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @SRCReptiles
      @SRCReptiles  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@treythings7292 at that size its very unlikely she is only almost 5 months, i would suggest the feeding every other day though no matter what to help with the weight, but i feel like she is deffinately more around the 6 to 7 month range at that weight🤔

      But did you outright kill him? And if so is why that kinda gets me.

    • @SRCReptiles
      @SRCReptiles  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @avery2041 so these guys live roughly 10 days(if they dont get eaten lol) so keeping it as a pet would be a very short lived thing, also do you not consider it mean to let something starve to death? Not being mean, just genuinely curious. Cause if you were to google what the adults eat, it will tell you their sole purpose is to mate, as an adult they do not eat, so if i were have waited til he naturally died, he would have just sat around starving over the rest of his few days. Entomologists use whats called ethyl acetate, which is a poison that normally takes less than 5 minutes to make the insect pass out or fall asleep, so to be honest, realitively peaceful vrs being eaten by a bird or another insect. Be mad if you wish, i've been being called god aweful names for years from people on youtube, entomology has existed since the 13th century when it was discovered in china, so i'm sorry if this makes you mad

    • @avery2041
      @avery2041 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, it was just the background voice that made me think you might've killed it due to fear/because he wanted it dead. I don't mind if it was say humanely euthanized as I know they have a short life span. I just didn't want to think it was killed due to those circumstances. I myself would maybe like to study entomology if I can qualify for further education

    • @SRCReptiles
      @SRCReptiles  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @avery2041 oh yeah, i dont normally kill stuff unless i'm collecting it for my collection, i also dont like having doubles of stuff so normally if i already have it i wont kill it(and to my boyfriends dismay, we have 3 or 4 spiders who live in our current house that i told him he cant kill cause they catch any knats or mosquitoes that get in, and if they come down from their webs, he now catches them and takes them outside to my garden💜 i have trained him well lol)
