Kat Bar they want people wearing a mask so people aren’t spitting and coughing on shit. My mother is a paramedic in Houston, TX and told me this. She just uses a simple face mask and anyone with COVID-19 wears a mask as well during transportation. To help the spread of germs. Gloves are good as well.

I tried this in the beginning, and it's my favorite. So simple and useful. Easy to make, and easy to wear.

I looked at quite a few videos before deciding to try making my own face mask using your directions. It worked! I did cheat on the top and bottom seams, I used iron on hemming tape rather than sewing the two pieces together. I hand-stitched close the two seams/pockets where the elastic goes. I found the sides a bit narrow for threading through my 3/8ths inch wide elastic, but I solved that issue by cutting it in half length-wise, then it easily threaded through and tied into the knot as you did in the video. I didn't think the mask would fit, but it fits great - gives me full coverage underneath my chin, fits comfortably and flush across the bridge of my nose and on the cheekbone ridges underneath my eyes, and the pockets with the elastic in them fit snugly against my cheeks on either side of my face. Success!
Formerly, if my hem needed fixing, I would staple it back up and paint the staples with a comparable color of nail polish. (Leave me alone!😶). That being said, this is such a beautiful design! After watching it a few times to gather up courage, I made the mask, all by myself! It's the first item I've ever m-a-d-e! And instead of staples, I used a needle and thread! You're amazing (and so am I😅)! Thank you so much!💓🙏

T-shirt fabric makes a great substitute for elastic since it has the same amount of stretch. Just cut strips ALONG THE WIDTH that are at least 1/2" wide. Stretch both ends, and both sides will curl to the middle. Now you can use it for the ear straps.
Anna Ryan I’ve done MANY masks with tshirt strips instead of elastic- mainly because I can’t find any more elastic. They are much more comfortable to wear then the elastic 1s. Unfortunately this masks looks simple but not going to offer proper protection w/o a pocket to add some sort of filter.
Thats great, but t-shirt fabric does not make a great substitute for nonwoven polypropylene fabric used in N95 mask, which is necessary for protecting you from coronavirus.
If you're using these homemade things and thinking that its protecting you, you're a fool.

The simplest mask to make but I would also sew an inner pocket for a filter too👍
No need inner pocket, just leave some open space at either the top or bottom then can insert filter.
Completely doable!! Thanks for your tutorial!👍🏻 Next one I make will have the little piece of wire at the bridge of the nose for a tighter fit. Now I can see easily adding it with hand sewing : )

I didn't have the elastic bands so I used the elastic from my underwear. It works. Crazy times call for crazy ideas.

I never really learned how to use a sewing machine, I always sew buy hand, mostly repairs and temporary halloween costumes. I am going to try this, I know that stitch and am sure I can do this, thank you!

I read for BEST filtering to add a t-shirt material on all masks. The threading is thicker than a hankie material.

Paper towel or better ciffee filter!
@@davidtrummer5302 If you're going to use a coffee filter, your mask should have a slit at the bottom (or somewhere) in order to insert it. If you use the t-shirt material, it serves as a permanent filter. No need for changing it out, since it's sewn in. I made my family members masks with t-shirt in the center of the hankie & they ARE thicker, but I feel reassured about the filtration quality. Good luck! Many blessings! & stay safe!😷
