- The long awaited ALL items tips and tricks in Phasmophobia for patch 0.3.X ! There are a lot of misconceptions going around when it comes to how to use items in the game, so I figured I would make a tutorial video to explain my take on them!
*NOTE* Many things have changed as of patch 0.4.0. Keep an eye out on my channel for more videos of Phasmophobia as the game develops!!

heres a tip for candles: if you are holding one your sanity drains SIGNIFICENTLY slower, valuable for bigger maps.
It actually makes you not lose sanity completely. The only way you can lose sanity with a candle is by ghost events, hunts, cursed possessions, or special ghost type abilities.
And ghosts aren't drawn to a candle during hunts

The crucifixes definitely work in your hands, it terrified the hell out of me when I saw it start burning after not playing it for a while

yea when its a big room and u have crucifix objective and u have balls of steel u just want to carry it around on u and move it wherever u hear the ghost throwing shit or touching shit
And on large maps ALWAYS close the doors after you checked the rooms. So that when the ghost touches a door, you can find the room with the door that is open/touched. When you leave doors open you don't know which one was touched
Somethings to add: 1. Candles actually prevent sanity drop when lit. 2. I found pressing q to shuffle through inventory when taking pictures is faster then mouse wheel. 3. Glowsticks make footprints easier to take photos of instead of moving UV all over the place. 4. Smudge sticks allow you to run through the ghost if used during a hunt and the ghost is in the radius of the effect, it can help if you are cornered and need to get out of the room to a better hiding place. They also hold the ghost in its room and stop it from roaming so if you need the last bit of evidence for a roaming ghost its not a bad idea to use it. Me and my friend would use the smudge stick to get pictures even during a hunt because if the ghost gets to close you can just use the smudge stick while the other uses the camera.
afaik holding ghost in the room with smudge stick thing works only for Yurei
Tip for glowstick:
You can keep it on when the ghost hunts you, unlike the flashlight. It could be a lifesaver when you are otherwise running in pitch black but see something with the glowstick while running.
It's interesting if that is intentional because glowsitcks are non-electronic. It would make a lot of sense but considering light and ghost vision could need work.
Also great for getting footprint photos

i personally prefer to panic smudge and plow into literally every wall on my way to the nearest closet, miss the door, and hide behind a door and pray
A tip for the salt is placing it in door ways. That way you will know the ghosts movements. Also, you can put a glowstick by the salt and take pictures of the foot prints.
Be careful though, Wraiths do NOT step in salt. Try setting up motion detectors too.
Tip for anyone that reads this: for using D.O.T.S Projector and Writing Book, you should take every object in the room that you are allowed to grab out of it. Ghosts interact with this 2 items like any other objects, so it randomly chooses one to interact with. If you remove the ghosts options, it's most likely to interact with the DOTS and the book.

Huh I had no idea that's how D.O.T.S. worked. I figured the writing book worked like a regular item because it can be interacted with or thrown. (If the ghost doesn't have it as a piece of evidence of course.)
6:16 Also highly recommend candles for consistent light that don't flicker during hunts and also for another light source if you misplace your flashlight.

The ghost is not attracted to the clicking sound of the flashlight. It's attracted to it *being on.* Spirit Box doesn't *always* have to be spoken to in the dark. But that's a good rule of thumb for some ghosts. Crucifixes will prevent a hunt while in your hand; the same rule applies here as on the ground that it will only cover a few meters in a circle around you. For glowsticks, throw them near salt piles for footprints (can reveal if a ghost is a wraith if no footprints nearby salt). Tripod: A ghost will not find you for having an 'on' video camera if it's attached to a tripod you're holding.
I played over 250 hours of Phasmophobia when it came out in 2020, and then didn't play it for two years. I got back to it yesterday and I was surprised to see so much has changed. I feel like the number of ghost types has doubled!

Use the glow sticks with salt EACH mission, so u can take photos of the footprints and fill up your book to make more money and XP

the first time i played with my friends who were playing phas way before i started they said "Go talk to the ghost in the room using this *gives the ghost box* they said i needed to experience my first ghost so i talked to it and it talked and started hunting and i ran out of my room irl
@@FeyRazzle They might've changed it, the other day I was holding a crucifix in my hand and it burned through a charge in my hand. Might be with specific ghost i'm not sure.
@@brandonmead1941 You can 100% hold the crucifix in your hand to prevent hunts. It has been proven by Psycho in his video almost a year ago. Hell, I've done it a few times as well, most recently being yesterday.

A lot has changed since then, the crucifix working in the hand though has not changed.
@@brandonmead1941 it can prevent hunts in 3 meters range as normal (5 for banshees) in hand, but that's it, what they were saying in the original comment is that they thought it could stop or help during hunts
Love the tips! Adding some of my two cents here: for the crucifix, the best way we find use of it is to either (1) secure a getaway from a hunt or (2) extend safe times in conjunction with smudge sticks. In games that do not have a "prevent hunt with crucifix objectives", what we do is (1) place crucifixes near ghost room entrances (not near the ghost) and near hall way junctions to ensure that the ghost DOES NOT spawn in those areas, ensuring a safe route for us. For times when we need more evidence but no more sanity, we usually move the crucifixes near the ghost room and smudge the surrounding area to buy more time for evidence! For excess flashlights and glowsticks (old flashlights specially), we use them as light pathways during hunts so we can turn off our lights and navigate easily. We leave flashlights turned on and scattered around our escape route. This also lets us track the ghost's movement during hunts for those pesky "capture a photo" objectives.
If anyone's curious why anything less than 3 C on the thermometer indicates freezing, it's actually because the "cold room" state that rooms are in if the power is off or if the ghost is in the room has an absolute minimum 5 C exactly, and all temperature readings on the thermometer have a 2 degree buffer zone either side to obscure the exact warmth of the room a little. Because of this, 2.9 C or less is a very strong indicator that you have Freezing Temperatures as an evidence, though it's never a bad idea to reconfirm later on to see if you get even lower temps or can see your breath.
Bonus tip, despite the Goryo's unique behavior meaning you can't see DOTS evidence interactions physically, this actually doesn't mean you have to set up a camera and camp the van. Goryos will interact with the DOTS as often as any other ghost as long as you are not physically in the room so adjacent rooms through the doorway works, the only difference is that you can't see it unless you're holding a video camera. The interaction still appears on the screen even if you can't see it yourself in the room.
Super helpful! Seems like the most important thing for a lot of these is to be patient... easier said than done when the ghost is hunting you!

A pro tip for the Ghost Writing Book: when placing it, put it next to reference points (aligned to the edges of a table, a wall, etc. I usually align the middle of the book with the D.O.T.S. light).
That way you'll be able to easily tell if the book has been thrown by the ghost. And if the book was thrown and the ghost didn't write in it after doing so, *_you can safely rule out Ghost Writing as an evidence_* because ghosts that write will *_always_* write whenever they try to throw the book. Be careful with Nightmare difficulty runs, tho, because you can't rule out evidences there.

1:51 Actually, the activity board with EMF doesn't work quite that way.
You want to look for jumps of 3, 4, OR 5. The EMF reader is 1 when it's dormant, and the activity board is 0 when it's dormant. When an EMF activity happens, the activity board USED to give the level of EMF, minus one, every time. So EMF5 would always give a four on the board.
Somewhat recently there was an update to the activity board. Now, with that EMF5, it takes the four the board gives, and does one of three things.
1, Add one to bring it to five on the board.
2, Subtract one to bring it down to three on the board.
3, Leave it as a four.
Yes, his definitive trust in the activity board saying it is over 90% certain to be EMF 5 really bugged me.
Something small to add, poltergeist can occasionally create the same jumps in the activity board (despite not being an emf 5 ghost), This is because it has the ability to throw multiple objects at once.

@@MrAdrien914 absolutely, which is why it's best to check the board for a period of time when nobody is in the house, as ghost events can only happen when someone is inside
This video really helped me with some of the more obscure items like the smudge sticks
glowstick is good for lighing out the path for hiding spot when hunting so u can see without the flashlight
I use glow sticks when I play with a group in a large map, like asylum. Finding the room I will place a glow stick outside the door and another en route to the exit. Help guide you either way and others to find the room initially.
Tripods seem to only be useful in vr because being able to see ghost orbs on the hand held is a bit difficult in vr. They are also good to cover more unique angles on certain maps.
aight some tips:
ghost writing book can be taken photo of twice for more cash. once when the book is being written in, and once for the book itself.
spirit box: the question doesn't matter and the answer don't either if you just want the evidence.
candles: having a lit candle whit you prevents sanity loss from darkness.
crucifix: works in your hands.
salt: can spawn uv footprints that give cash when taken picture off. just the ghost stepping in the salt does not, you need the uv footprints
Sanity pills: give 30% ish sanity back on the only difficulty you should be playing on

best tip for dots and ghost book. Remove all interactive items in the room. That way youre more likely to have the ghost interact with them.

Here's the thing about motion sensors. Apparently ghosts are taller than you think. Placing them above your sightline will make them NOT trigger when players pass next to them, but ghosts will.
Only downside are children and crawlers but those can be solved with a single sensor, salt or simply spotting them and adapting this strat.
In a lot of places you can place the motion sensor as low as you can and it won't trip when a player goes through but the ghost will trigger it, crawling or not. I place them on doorframes a lot and usually you can only see the top half of the sensor if you're placing it in the right spot.
That emf tip used to be jumps of 4, now it's 5, already thought this was true but this cleared it up
Tip for flashlight: You can turn on your flashlight and through it on the ground to light up areas in the dark. If the ghost is hunting and you are in a dark room you can navigate a lot easier and get to a hiding spot.

The candles also keep your sanity up. I like to use them at bigger maps like High School, Prison and Asylum. I do combine them with a flashlight to see where I am going and it's a win-win if the objective is to blow out a candle xD.

crucifixes work in your hands, but I think it's only when it's in the ghost room. Anywhere far from it, the crucifix won't do anything, just like when it's on the ground

This was a great, great video. Only tip I'd is how cost efficient candles are for fighting sanity drain while doing setup. They're better than bringing a flashlight once you know the maps.

also a couple tips for glow sticks. 1) unlike flashlights/electronic devices that give off electric signals, glowsticks don't reveal your location to ghosts so you can use them as a light source during a hunt. 2) You can drop a glowstick on the floor in front of a door/window/light switch that has finger prints to be able to get photo evidence by yourself without the help of someone holding a glowstick or uv light for you
You can actually even take photos of the spots where fingerprints exist without even using the uv to make them visible and still get full points for the pictures. Lazy way to check for print evidence without uv when you know the ghost touched the door or flipped the lights is take a picture and check the journal.

Just a correction you can see ghost orbs without night vision, you could also see them with the photo camera if the lighting is good.
The crucifix CAN be in your hand so long as you're within proximity of the attempted hunt and not just walking around freely as if you're now made of teflon. But best to just drop it.

Some added tips:
On cell doors in the prison, the fingerprint will be a thumbprint on the food slot facing up rather than the side facing you. Even pro players often overlook this.
Don't forget that candles prevent sanity loss and are a light source that the ghost can't find you with during a hunt. It saved my skin many times.
Smudge stick mechanics were clarified by the devs because of the confusion around it. Sticks send 2 messages to the ghost in a ~3m radius. Once when it's first lit and again when it burns out, meaning it does nothing between those times which is counterintuitive. When not hunting, it calms/triggers the ghost depending on the type. In a hunt it conduses the ghost, making it lose its target and wander for about 5 seconds. However there is a bug that (for now) allows you to confuse the ghost in a hunt at any distance.
ill give one more tip. Candle is op. It keeps your sanity from draining in the dark. be warned though if the ghost blows it out, you will lose its protection.

Another GREAT question to ask on spirit box that gets an INSTANT response if it's in that room, is "Where Are You?" You will immediately get either I'm Close or I'm Right Behind You!! Be prepared to have Chicken skin lol
Glowsticks are great for when you want to call out a ghost for a photo or a repel and escape- it lights up your way without it tracking you as opposed to running away with a flashlight on
Or u can set up glowsticks on the path you plan to escape on keeping the area lit up

Tip for glowstick: light em up over salt and leave em there. If the ghost steps on salt, it will show you uv footsteps (not counted as fingerprints) and show u where the ghost went, also making footstep sounds. You can take a photo of this and get money for it. I usually dont watch out for salt too much, so hearing the footsteps helps me.

Another tip you forgot about candles: it basically completely stops your sanity from being drained. The only way for your sanity to drain while you’re holding a lit candle is for ghosts to use abilities or interactions to force it to drop
With the salt if you shine a uv on the salt pile and around the salt pile when you hear the stepping sound you get footprints, these are a great alternative to making money when there are no fingerprints or board on the map. Also fun fact if you hear the stepping and a salt pile is touched but there are no footprints then its a Wraith!
A good tip for the lighter, if the ghost type is an Onryo, it will be less likely to attack you if you have the lighter on.

Pro tip for the book: The pencil can manipulate the light on the Dots projector. Place the book in the dots to spot the flashing of the pencil moving
My tip for the motion sensor and salt is to place them on the frame of the door if it's not a hallway ghost. The logic is if they leave the room, they're going to have to interact with them.
About Salt; it's also a good tool to use if you narrowed down the ghost options to 2, and they are either Wraith or something else (most likely Spirit) and the ghost is being stingy in regards to revealing the last piece of evidence. Just put salt down, wait for the ghost to interact with it, then check for foot prints with the UV Light or the Glowstick. If you get footprints, take pics for easy money and mark down the other option. If you don't get footprints, mark down Wraith. Salt is toxic to Wraiths so they don't leave footprints when they interact with salt. This leaves the problem with getting photos to fill the journal with. Hope the ghost likes interactions!

Candles are good for maintaining sanity on big maps. So have a candle donkey around with a candle and lighter.
I personally like glow sticks, although they're very faint after 30 seconds and a UV Flashlight would be better for finding prints, I like to use them as a method to mark the map. It gives me an idea where I am if my flashlight is off for whatever reason, per se, a hunt or to drain my sanity for the optional objective
what I do for cleansing the area if it is a spirit box ghost, I will ask if the ghost is nearby and if I get a close response on the box I'll smudge, it always works~
I use the tripod to mount the camera and please the dots projector in front of it that way if we are outside or low on sanity we can still take a look at dots projector from the van

Btw the crucifix can actually be used in your hands. It only stops the ghost from hunting when it was going to spawn next to you. The ghost ate out of my hands multiple times before

I believe the crucifix does work when it's in your hand. I've had them begin to burn up while holding them out.
In regards to crucifixes, I've had one break while I was holding it, so clearly it doesn't matter.
I like sound sensor for maps like school, especially if the ghost doesn't interract a lot and is hard to pin down to a specific room. But maybe the parabolic mic is better, idk

How are you able to see the ghost? It seems like as soon as we start to see activity we die
Candles prevent sanity drain from darkness. Asking for a sign can speed up getting ghost writing as it forces an interaction.
It would be cool you set up a tripod near a dots projector so when the goes walks through it snaps a picture
for emf5 in the board shouldn't it be four? since the emf starts on one dot which is zero activity, when it goes to five on the emf it makes sense to me that it would be four on the board as that's how I tell and get it right. correct me if I'm wrong
Actually, for the activity chart, you should check for spikes of 4. The emf is already at emf 1 as a standard, that means when the ghost is not doing anything, it's at emf 1. If you go by this, a spike of 1 is emf 2, a spike of 2 is emf 3, a spike of 3 is emf 4 and a spike of 4 is emf 5 (which is the one we want), so yes, check for spikes of 4, but never lock emf 5 as evidence if you only see only one spike of 4, always wait and check to see if another spike happens later
Tip for motion sensor: You can use it together with salt, to see if it's a Wraith
I use the tripods and cameras to watch for ghost writing and EMF 5 from the van if it's been THAT kind of round. Why take a risk of going inside to check if you can watch it on camera, also I use that to watch for dots. I will place a tripod with a camera by a table or bed thats slightly lower and then place the key items I need on it for watching. As for dots a camera in the corner does just as good...
And I'm not sure if it's just me but in my last game I played the thermostat was set to Celsius oddly enough but would go down to about 0.4C but never lower. It WAS the room but the evidence wasn't freezing temps. It was an overall odd experience but we still managed to guess it right.

That was the case but is no longer true. It also used to do EMF, but no longer does. Both were removed as it was too easy

You didn't mention that salt can give you footprints which you can take a picture of (put a glowstick next to salt pile for easy seeing) and that they DO NOT count as fingerprint evidence.
I used to use the glowsticks and standard flash lights in bigger maps like the hospital. I would light the way back to the truck or at least outside. My friends and I would always get lost in the big maps. But since now i heard the ghosts are attracted to electrical equipment like flashlights. Not sure what I can do now. xD
I just started this game, but i find a bit weird the crusifix affects the banshee the most instead of a demon?
since when did they remove the possibility for the crusifix to work while holding it ?
