- Another video from our circumnavigation on our 12.5 metre steel yacht which started in April 2005 at Southsea Marina in the UK and ended back there in November 2013. It was a blast.
During our crossing of the South Atlantic from Namibia to Brazil, we stopped off in St Helena for a few weeks, here is a memento of our visit in April 2014, a beautiful island.

I have studied all the mid Atlantic islands and I believe St Helena is populated enough to live on. It has basic healthcare, dental care, restaurant’s, shopping and plenty of undeveloped land to explore. Now it has a modern airport too. Hopefully, tourism will balance it’s financial issues.
It does have a substantial population, and they are welcoming. We had planned to stay for a couple of weeks but ended up staying for six as we enjoyed it so much.
Great video. My family are from there 300 years ago. I too am a cruiser (wintering Plymouth) and would love to sail to St Helena one day. Well done the both of you.

Did you have to file paperwork for entrance?
Not when we visited in 2012, we just turned up on our boat from Namibia and did the usual customs and immigration. However we are British, other nationalities may require visas. Hope that helps.
I lived on St Croix for a year. I don’t care for ocean boating.
