Dr. Kurt Wheeler has Laura looking high and low for a file on the new Jamaica plant.. that is a total lie Alex told him. Alex listents to everything. Kurt gives Laura a picture he drew of her that reminds her of the whole David Hamilton mess (before my time if anyone else wants to explain to the youngins'..thanks!) Luke is working on a plan with a untion painter (Ed Bagley Jr, right?). Laura shows up.

Ugh, I had forgotten that Duvall sketched Laura. Reminders of David Hamilton. The things they used to do on soaps. Laura was only 15 when they had her get involved with David Hamilton who had served in Vietnam with Rick! He was Rick's buddy. So he was Rick's age and looked Rick's age. David had the hots for Leslie and was trying to get Leslie's attention behind Rick's back, but Laura had a teenage crush on David and he used her to get back at Leslie for not paying attention to him. On the other hand, Rick and Leslie were leaving Laura alone with David all the time. It was creepy. One of them, I forget whether it was Rick or Leslie started to question how close David and Laura were but the other one shrugged it off saying it was harmless. I think they saw something like Laura being in his room or him being in hers. Anyway, it went on until Laura was pushing David about her feelings for him and he told her he just used her to get to Leslie. She got angry and pushed him and he fell by the fire place and struck his head killing him. Laura freaked out and blocked the whole thing. She just left. Lesley took the blame and went to jail. Even when Laura remembered she ran away rather than get her mom out of it. Scotty and Brian tracked her down and brought her back. That's how she ended up on probation and under threat of reform school. But just imagine, this all took place when she was 15! Bobbi was a teen prostitute when she was 15 and they were all the time saying she had a sordid past or acting like she was easy because of it! It was creepy even then, but today we would say it was human trafficking. Just think, Bobbi wasn't a virgin because she had been a hooker as a teenager and this is why Scotty felt okay with using her for sex while he loved and dated Laura. Gross. I never could stand the character of Scotty even then. I thought he was a horrible person.
Thank you for sharing this! I never knew. GH aired in Germany in the early 90s and they startet about the time Laura began working at the disco and ended when the ice princes storyline was wrapped up. This Internet thingy really came up handy ;)
@@aprilmayjunesummer6976 Oh yes, I had forgotten that GH didn't air in Germany in the early 1980's like it did in Italy. I remember that because I missed it when I would go to Germany to see my brother.
I wouldn't have appreciated it back then, I am afraid, toys took up all of my time ;)
But I was hooked later and still am. I was glued to the TV and had nobody to share, because none of my friends were interested. GH also inspired me to take the English lessons in school more seriously - this was Lukes and Lauras language and I was determined to learn it and figure out what they originally said. I can surely do now!

Thank you for explaining this. I didn’t know Scotty was using Bobbi in this way while dating Laura and loving Laura in 1978. He IS a creep!! I suppose Scotty told Laura about Bobbi’s past because Laura brought it up to Bobbi one time.
In the early or mid 80s I travelled from JACKSONVILLE FL to visit my sister in Long Island. When her friend's daughters heard I was from j'ville, they exclaimed. "Jacksonville! That's where Bobby Spencer was a prostitute!" LOL.
I never really knew the "connection" with David Hamilton and Duval both drew a sketch of Laura and looked similar to one another...interresting.
Ed Bagley Jr., you just never know who you'll see get a start on GH and other soap operas. LOL
Actually I remember seeing Ed Begley, Jr. as a character in Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman from 1976. I believe he was a boyfriend of Mary's sister Cathy.

This is an example of how good the show was back then compared to today. Story lines were well thought out in advance, how else would an actor who resembles David Hamilton be chosen for the role of Kurt. Knowing how he would be killed and Laura be set up to take the fall. Todays show seems to have no real thought process at all of what will happen later. They paint themselves into corners with no way out and it shows in the disjointed story.
No spoilers for the rest of us, please....Can you edit your comment, maybe?
@@lizaphelps Are you serious about spoilers?? Maybe when these were first posted that was necessary, but these have been on You Tube for 14 years. Time for not discussing future events kind of went out the window about 10 years ago.

@@lizaphelps Actually it isn't a spoiler. The David Hamilton storyline was a few years before this. If you haven't seen the older story, the references will make no sense.
Actually thinking about it is more upsetting to me in reality. (As a mother!) I can't believe they had the then 15 or 16 year old Genie Francis playing such a whacked storyline... Boy she had to grow up WAY too fast! I mean to know about sick old men who take advantage of young girls for their own cheap thrills and vengence... and she hadn't had her own real first kiss yet. UGH.. I think it makes me mad!!!
I’m surprised her (GF) parents felt comfortable with this story line for their underage child…. David Hamilton, possible murder, probation, marriage to an older Scotty, rape, falling for an older mob-connected man. It IS upsetting for such a young person to be living in this world on a daily basis even if it is a TV fantasy world, not to mention all the other external situations in which Genie was exposed.
@@karenoneal4660 Probably one of the reasons she got hooked on cocaine during that time, plus TG and TR said it was party central on set back then. and Yes she had her first french kiss onscreen with Kin Shriner and she also had her first offscreen french kiss with Kin Shriner at 15. Kin was 24 at the time. But Kin did keep her out of a lot of the drug scene while he was there, it was after he left that she started doing the cocaine with others. Back then they didn't have lots of under 18 teenagers on the show, GF was the only one.
TG and GF were both doing a lot of coke at the time,which is why GF left after the wedding. Genie Francis went to rehab and got clean and healthy. I heard Tony stopped the coke shortly thereafter. I'm glad

I am sure she was beyond AMAZING... I am sticking to my theory that Genie FRancis was a child prodigy... GM obviously knew it... but geez.... talking about having to grow up fast!!
How sad.. and you could see the amount of guilt Lesley had for not being more leary of the guy and Laura... think I am glad I was too young for that!

@karenone2 No he is not he biological father. Her biological father was a medical student with Lesley I think. But Lesley's dad told her that her baby died and Laura was adopted by the Vinings and raised as Amy's sister. It wasn't until she was 12 or so that she came to know Lesley was her mother. Lesley was involved with Rick. I think he may have adopted Laura... but not sure.
Funny Ms. Francis seems to have the same attraction... in some interview asked about even a character of hers with a younger man she kind of said she couldn't really get on board with the idea. lol But when her characters sons are all only 9 years her jr. (Tyler Christopher and Daniel Goddard).... I guess I can understand. However saw the woman in person recently and damn she looks 20 years younger than she is! She and a significantly younger man certainly works from a pure visual perspective!!
