- Heads up! The name of this game has changed to Sovereign: Fall of Wormwood due to trademark issues! But we use the name Wormwood throughout the video.
We are currently live on Kickstarter! www.kickstarter.com/projects/...
Sovereign: Fall of Wormwood is a new sci fi tactical card game for 2-4 players. But how similar is it to other card games out there? Here we rundown the main similarities and differences between Sovereign and the two games it will be compared to the most- Magic: The Gathering, and Netrunner.

Building up the units and then the cost becoming their health reminds me of how the minion work in Vampire the Eternal Struggle.
Oh yeah, it sort of is!
This is really informative. I've played lots of MtG and Netrunner but am excited to back Wormwood and give it a shot! Can't wait for the crowdfunding campaign!
Thanks!
@@damonsteaDOA. You got 5 games to fight. Sorcery, Flesh & Blood, Myrtle, 6 arms, Alpha clash, Lorecona, Shadowverse, .
@@TempoLOOKING Not looking to replace any of those. This is a non-collectible game that is optimized for 3-4 players as well as kitchen table play, not 2 player tournaments. But you do you!
I was on the fence but after watching this I'm going to back, thanks. I play Netrunner so really appreciate the comparison and think I have room for both games :)
Thanks so much! A lot of Netrunner players have really enjoyed the game
This is a great video. I don't think I'll be playing it but it's great to see how you can make an economy for a card game work so differently. (Keyforge also has the draw up to hand size at end of turn rule, and it almost doesn't have an economy.)
Thanks!
Do you have some kind of hand traps that trigger when revealed by opponent, like Snare of Jinteki faction from Netrunner?
Not thus far, but I've thought about it. Perhaps in future expansions!
I am seeing some similarities between the systems different in Wormwood from MTG and those which are already present in smaller CCGs. Would you be willing to do a callout of any other CCGs that you were inspired by and how Wormwood is also going to differ from those?
Hey! Netrunner and Magic are the ones I am most intimately familiar with and the only ones I could knowledgably comment on, but I was definitely influenced by a variety of card games- Star Wars, Legend of the Five Rings, Vampire: The Masquerade (Jyhad), Pokemon, WARS, etc. Curious to know which games you see parallels with!
Are there plans for future expansion releases or is just that _?
Yes! The current plan is to release 2-4 new decks each year. We are also discussing a TTRPG and a solo mode
@@damonstea will the new decks add card options for deckbuilding to existing decks or they will be completely new factions?
@@jimphilip9454 Both- each release will be a fully playable faction deck in and of itself, but there will definitely be decks that expand on established factions (zooming into certain aspects or subcultures of that faction.) There are no plans to make booster packs.
It's really weird to describe it like this but if you think about it this is an LCG with worker placement!😆 I really liked it.
That's exactly right! :)
the secret-keeping and information aspect is really really cool. really cool. feels like it could be super political, looking at someone's card then lying to another player about it, stuff like that
It can get very political! Once a group has played a few times you see a group culture emerge. Thanks for taking a look!
I'm liking what I'm hearing here.
Thanks for checking it out!
Are there any plans for a digital spinoff with the ability to play as a single player?
Edited for a typo.
I would love to make an app if I can get the money to program it! Hopefully in the future
Man, what a cool game.
Thank you!
Will the Tokens be made out of plastic or cardboard?
The base game will have cardboard tokens, but we will have acrylic tokens as an addon for those who want it! We have been limited in our material choices since they need to print with a different color on each side!
is that AI art?
We have worked with over 30 artists on the art- many of the pieces are licensed personal pieces, not commissioned by us. You may see a few AI pieces in this video for cards we haven't completed yet.
You need a new microphone setup. At max volume I can barely hear you.
His mic setup is fine, what he need is simple compressor/limiter on audio channel 😁
Thanks for the feedback, and sorry about that. We are working on getting a new audio interface
@@damonsteaNo need to apologize : I could clearly follow and hear you and this was very informative :-)
I'm on half volume on my phone and the video is loud and clear...
