80-90s cars are easy enough to see out of and maneuver, big enough to fit our things in and small enough to still fit in a parking spot and garage space, analog enough to feel a connection with, and stylish enough to get out of and look back at before going inside.
This truck was originally equipped with a graphic equalizer and cassette player. You can tell by the bass and treble buttons missing from the original radio. The equalizer and cassette player were originally in the center of the dashboard where the aftermarket radio is now.
GMT400 and GMT800 are peak GM truck. GM trucks before were building up to these and trucks after were cheaply made and unreliable. These are modern and comfortable enough to be daily driven without being overcomplicated or unreliable. I prefer the refreshed GMT400 but I'm warming up to the earlier models. 90s colors are great and I'm partial to the green, especially over tan on these. My grandfather had a Yukon K1500 that he used for plowing snow and I spent many hours riding in that big comfortable thing. I would love a Suburban or Yukon XL 2500 even though I have no use for one. That exhaust sounds great and this one is in very nice shape. You can do just about anything you'd ever want with one of these. Bring back big comfortable bench seats and soft cloth upholstery.
Not only the Silverado in that time span, but the Tahoe and the suburban as well. My father-in-law had a 1998 four-door Tahoe that was all fleece with the fuel injected 5.7 L and that was a great ride.
You keep saying mini truck, but this was the full size of its day. There were much smaller trucks on the market receded to as mini trucks - there as even a magazine just for them.
Sitting in a 1500 W/T variant at the Chicago Auto Show back in 1988, it struck me as the perfect truck. Not too big, not too small, sweet stick shift, and the 4.3 in this generation was right about the same level of power that the 5.0/305 was in the previous generation. Yet I've only owned a Dodge D150 (225 /6) and an F-150 (300) so far.
Steel bumpers. I definitely miss having that on construction sites. Lol, today's Ford f150 taillights cost $ 900.00 a piece to replace and headlights are.how much 1,600?... Yea, like a rock- those got 800 are the best...
rad, gmt400 for the win. i have a 2000 gmc denali, end of the line 400, k1500, awesome truck! i do want to point out if that swap was a period swap, it has a 700r4 (now called a 4l60 (no e))

The K1500 Step Side was awesome too. I knew someone that had theirs lifted with a row of KC’s on the rollbar and that thing was a tank
Zach, the 305
And the 350 are the same block
What separates them is a 1/4 bore
The 305 had a 1 and 3/4 in bore
The 350 was a 2 inch bore
Just a little note, this truck would be 700R4, the 4L60 E was introduced in 1993 for trucks.
Never knew that. mines the 6OE

This generation was at its best from 1995-1997 with the decent interior updates, but 1998-2002 were the peak Silverado years.

I have to agree. I love driving my 2001 extended cab Step side Silverado with a 4.8 L. And it just hit 325,000 miles. It is an amazing daily driver.❤❤

My two favorite things about that truck are the color & the gauges!
Would love to see a review of the 67-72 Chevy C-10.
Seeing that truck reminds me of the Asam Calhoun music video - Clean money. As American as the flag itself.
Oh!!!! Every 40 year old dudes uncles truck! He could throw a football a mile in High School.

Hey Zack. Are you coming out to California any time soon?
It would be great seeing you review a GM EV1
Love my 93 still broken though 😭
Robo cop on four wheels already existed DECADES ago, and he was more swav than either of em!
I of course refer to nobody but K.I.T.T.
I would be happy to have a 305 . Got better mileage

Those square bodies are gorgeous. Modern ugly blob mobiles don’t hold a candle
Square bodies were 60s through 80s
gmt400s are known as the old body style.
Water temp looks a bit high.
It's about to nut antifreeze according to that gauge!
Love it! #singlecab #stepside
can someone get me one of these?? please??
I don’t think there’s any good generation of GM trucks
I’m not trying to offend anybody who owns a Chevy or GMC truck I’m just a Dodge Ram a fan
It’s not the best generation. The GMT800 is. Everyone knows that.
