I worked with Scott (southside) when he was a BW contractor he was a very good and solid guy and he will be missed. I knew he was there but I didn't know he went to work full time as GRS so it was news to me, good interview. I had heard what happened while working and everyone knew what really got those guys killed and simply put it was ambition. The female in charge totally screwed those guys by tying their hands and not letting them do their jobs especially when so many red flags were popping up, for example there is no reason Americans can't search the car, it's Afghanistan cars get searched everywhere asking for this alone should have been a huge red flag. What I really don't understand is why they didn't have a dog at least sniff the outside of the vehicle, the agency dogs are awesome and it would have easily detected that much explosives. Every site I have been to had explosive detection dogs maybe they didn't there but somebody on base probably did. This is a clear cut example of why you make SOP's and then follow them every time no matter what, hopefully it was lesson learned, but knowing the agency i really doubt it.

I was there that day as the dustoff medic from FOB Salerno. It was an fn mess of body parts. The CIA Mi-17 took almost all of the survivors back to the CSH and had a massive impact in saving their lives. I took one casualty back to the CSH. He had pieces of other people’s bodies stuck in him but was not critical. The doctors, nurses and med techs at ☘CSH did an amazing job of saving the ppl who could be saved. It was totally jacked.

The inability to finish a sentence or form a complete thought when trying to recall events like this is a symptom of the trauma if the event. You can see it in a lot of veterans, unfortunately. People should be more respectful. Just because someone isn't crying and falling apart outwardly doesn't mean they aren't hurting.

Jeremy Wise and his brothers Beau and Ben all served in the military (Jeremy was a SEAL, Ben was a Green Beret, and Beau was a Marine). Jeremy was one of the contractors who was killed in the Camp Chapman bombing, and Ben was killed after being shot in Afghanistan in 2012. Both deaths caused Beau, the youngest brother, to be pulled from combat as he was the last surviving brother getting the title of Sole Survivor. Just a bit of backstory for just one of the people who was killed in this bombing.
Siblings michael, tito janet.... Were all singers and performers. Unfortunately hollywood has no sole survivor rule and all of the family was completely destroyed.

I was at FOB Salerno in 08. They tried to run our gate. I was in charge of the detention night shift. They were trying to break out an HVT we had in my facility. That place was always hot!!
The stupid cake. Triple Agent is a very good read. It is incredible to hear first hand these stories from people that were there and had inside dealings. The world would be a better place if people would just listen. I felt so bad for the innocents involved because of a certain person's arrogance.

This guy has great insight, good lessons for everyone to learn regarding how to deal with management who does not take risk seriously and follow proper protocols to keep everyone as safe as they could possibly be. This also applies in a lot of situations, any place where protocols are needed to keep people safe.

1st Group bookend Afghanistan with unit blood in or near Khost. SFC Nate Chapman (1-1 S.O./3rd Bn C/E) died early 2002 and MSG (ret.) Dane Parisi (3rd Group/ 1st Group Ops Det) was a Agency contractor that died during blast in Khost. Surprisingly the Movie "Zero Dark 30" casted a similar in appearance actor that portrayed Dane as the Security contractor that was attempting to safe guard compound by forcing vehicle to be checked properly at a standoff vehicle search area.

Leaders like this guy change your entire outlook on a certain unit, job or career in general. You remember people like him in leadership roles your entire life and you learn a lot from them. Some people are just born different and are destined for roles like that and they excel at them. He’s a great example of that in my opinion.

I was in Kabul in January 2002. My unit (Lima 3/8) established the American Embassy. I had to search about a hundred Afghan workers every morning and did a bunch of meet and greets with the local tribal leaders. I was always worried about Suicide bombers.

It’s an unfortunate story of certain people getting tunnel vision (which I can understand when you base your entire work career on finding OBL and this is your best lead), but it unfortunately caused a lot of protocols to be swept to the side. Those said protocols could have saved some lives that day…just a sad situation all around.

Watching that incident be portrait in the film Zero Dark Thirty was intense. Even as a random civilian I saw numerous red flags with the security. Always wondered if that actually went down that messy… crazy shit
It's definitley easy to pick up on watching the movie. Being there is a whole different thing... You have to remember at the time, the CIA analyst woman that was meeting him had dedicated her life to finding Bin Laden. Years of research and trying to find intelligence of his wereabouts for her, the CIA, and the American people, and of course families of 9/11 victims was riding on this guy being a legit source. She believed it so much that she started taking risks just to be able to talk to him and see him in person. Add that much passionate wanting, mixed with a person who wasn't experienced in on the ground war fighting and that's how it happened. You have to remember too Afghanistan wasn't a place of many IED's and VBEID's at the time. Iraq is where those threats were recognized by everyone because it happened everyday.... People don't understand the subtle decisions that get made in warzones. Make the wrong decision in a split second and you could get you killed..Get too aggressive and you alienate the local population by risking killing an innocent family that didn't know to stop... Things go wrong though

I was tdy to Langley the week after the bombing. Was somber and someone had laid a small bouquet of flowers at the memorial wall.
In a perfect world, station managers are there to collect Intel. The operators are there to provide security. The station manager should never have the authority to override the operators on security issues. There are security procedures in place for a very good reason and they should never be deviated from to appease a potential asset. Again, this is in a perfect world.
Having competent and experienced management at a FOB, Station, Base is critical, but was an epic failure. Qualified management was not in place.

balawi wasn't connected to him. he was a dorky pediatrician who got famous by blogging under an alias on islamists websites. this led to him being nabbed by Jordanian intelligence and pissing his pants. then Jordanians sent him off to Pakistan where the dorks fantasy life was able to become his real life, i.e., he got to blow himself up... fun fact. at camp Chapman, the cia's chief of base had previously been a 40 + yo suburban mom living in VA with absolutely no warzone experience. she felt confident operating a cia base in one of the worlds most dangerous locations bc she "would never put herself in danger bc of her kids." how they let her in that position boggles the mind.

The search criteria was very normal for long term trusted informants they would call ahead and come straight through without searches because they feared being recognized at the gate if they were stopped and searched as the taliban had their guys undercover around the gates looking for informants and local translators.
I got to Salerno whi h is like a click away from there early December I remember hearing about this. Right after the rugged seat left seat was over
It sounds as if what occurred was impossible without the influence and cooperation of people on the inside by the same people who planned the attack. Their infiltration tactics very likely mimicked the same infiltration tactics used on them. The most difficult thing to see and to believe is the hustle being played on one’s self that looks exactly like the hustle one is playing on the target. The human errors in thought are several and combine to create a false belief that our hustle has hypnotized them. The errors in thought (to be avoided) include: a belief that the target doesn’t understand our ruse/hustle; that the target couldn’t piece together our ruse/hustle even if they saw enough pieces of it over several experiences; that the target hasn’t bought that information from someone on the inside with firsthand knowledge. Then again, that female decision-maker may have been “in another movie” creating a scene she could talk and write about later where she explains how she designed this “never-seen-before” approach to security that exposed so many valuable human assets to a probable (not certain nor just possible) enemy target including his bodyguards/entourage which naturally resulted in her next promotion and later her book and fees for the speech she was now giving - at least in the movie with her as the protagonist playing inside of her mind. How else does one explain creating a welcoming committee for a mastermind of so many deaths to allied forces. The term is ‘magical thinking’ which is a form of escape and a coping strategy for a job one is under-skilled to perform. Imagine a member of the female half of our species not listening and ignoring every caution communicated to her by male members of our species whose biological make-up is to protect (which is why only men talk about ‘spidy senses’) - ‘that never happens,’ no one has ever said. Understanding our biology is not mysoginistic - rather, it’s being rational and sane in order to stay alive. Hopefully the right lessons have been learned in order to improve future outcomes and to keep highly valuable friendly forces alive.

12:02 put it this way I still have fkn nightmares from seeing what I seen that day. We were at FOB Salerno when the call came in and we arrived as dust off. 1 bird took all the injured survivors and then it was a cleanup from then on. There were body parts everywhere. Some of the survivors had other people’s bones sticking into them that’s how violent of an explosion it was. It was absolutely instantaneous for those that were ground zero of the blast. That’s the one & only rescue mission that I will never ever be able to get out of my head. It affects me to this day especially on the 4th of July where I see these young kids & adults too standing way too close to these fireworks just fills me with anxiety and I have to look away. The thought of being one of those survivors that had pieces of perhaps their friends bones sticking into them that they were just talking to seconds before is more than enough to keep you awake at night. The cleanup was much more brutal than seeing the survivors however. For those of you saying “it had to be a blood bath” no not really especially at ground zero bc when you take that big of an explosion with that much heat and pressure it typically dissipates all the blood and liquids from the initial sight of the blast. It doesn’t however evaporate it all bc when you found parts specifically limbs & torsos the blood and fluids were still there. Idk how many I’ve looked back on the situation as a whole and thought to myself. It’s the fkn CIA why would they feel that this was such a “great idea!?” Was it bc the guy was Jordanian & sure he was feeding them some information but isn’t that how all double agents who favor the other side always work? They give you what you wanna hear and all the time their also going back to their side giving them a lot more than their ever giving you and during that time their also making a plan to one day take out as many of your people as they can. It seems to me and I’m no intelligence expert I’m just a medic but it seems to me someone got a little too excited when they heard “I can give you UBL’s top guy” and so they decided to jump over as many of the lines in the process that normally would never be allowed.

gotta see the full thing of this but I remember seeing what happened in Khost on the news and looking into it as I could and it was just sad and all. But I have to ask and if anyone here knows cool if not okay but I do security work myself (nothing like GRS) but why in the heck couldn't GRS have said hey either we do it this way or this person isn't getting on base. Were they out of the structure to have any kind of command. I know with the stuff that I do if we security says that person isn't getting on site they aren't.
That's what they wanted to do and should of but the guy had access to Bin Laden. They wanted him so bad that a few gave in to this guy and was going to do anything to keep him happy and to give up Bin Laden. But like Ninja said, the guy got too much access way too fast. Should of been a big red flag right there. They thought they could buy him off with a shit ton of money & a new life in a new country. But people like him don't care about money, they're 100% about Jihad and killing Americans. Crazy. But because of that bombing & the people who died, the lady friend went into the rabbits hole & came out with Bin Laden 2 years later.
From how it's been portrayed in media and alluded to in interviews by many former GRS members, station chiefs were/are arrogant intellectuals, individually focused, who often don't respect the opinions of security personnel. Essentially, they were in charge and felt they were smart enough to know better than the people who were far more qualified in specific key areas. That mindset cost many lives and I sincerely hope that administrative elements of the agency rooted that out, because frankly with the standards required for becoming a paramilitary member of the CIA, it's a complete waste to treat them as window dressing.
They had “Go” fever.

For what it's worth and at 20 20 hindsight: the triple agent should have been stopped at the second perimeter and subjected to a zoom-like interview. If he did not agree he should have been snap-inspected, with absolutely no option. He would eventually have to blow himself up.

I don't understand American military. You are all from the same country and fighting the same war but a lot of egos get in the way. Which military is the best military which one has the best special forces that is the big problem..
The only people that argue which branch has the best special ops units are people that have zero clue what they are talking about. Every unit has a separate function. Who's better green berets or seals? Is the same as asking who's better police or firefighters. They have completely different jobs.
