fun fact! when playing speech bubbles live, Jonny Greenwood plays keyboard and harp at the same time at one point :)

Saw them live in Toronto last November, it was so fucking cool when he did that. He also at one point was using the bow on an electric guitar I think? Maybe I saw that wrong.

I agree, different project, but it still feels to me like the next Radiohead album I had been waiting for.

Not only has Jonny done Soundtracks, but is highly regarded and has couple Oscar nominations - did maybe the best Movie and movie soundtrack of this century so far "There Will Be Blood" - the movie is a master work and the music is such a critical element to the entire experience...and he has done every Paul Thomas Anderson film since; so yeah, now he is one of the most sought out movie music composers in Hollywood now - not a bad 2nd skillset to have for your lead guitar player! And Thom did the score for the movie "Suspiria" a couple of years ago, so you can really hear how that has shaped their musical ideas (most evident in the instrumentation but also song writing structure as well) as the years have gone on. We all believe, and hope, there is at least on final - LP10 - Radiohead album to come, though its been a long time vs their past hiatus time, Covid is both a partial reason but also inspired Thom and Jonny (who have done some duo live work over the years that is absolute treasure, from older Radiohead albums back in 2003, easily found on TH-cam, and back to 1995, genuine treasures like this one th-cam.com/video/LqaTvSJV9J4/w-d-xo.html - as well as a few shows around 2019 - so this album seemed almost predestined eventually. The drummer is absolutely crushing it throughout - perfect add-on for the project. Was a great live show and coming around N. America this Summer so check their tour and see if they come near, it is well worth it, saw them play this work last year and they've added some new really fantastic songs as well. Just save some ideas for another Radiohead album please guys!

Agreed! Thom and Jonny’s work these past few years have been incredible. The solo works, scores, collaborations. They are both in an exciting place creatively. Hope they continue to explore new sounds and get all that into new Radiohead songs.

oh wow, listening to it right now. I have not revisited this album since the reaction. crazy! Yeah, gorgeous, the percussion is so muted and interesting, and the strings are divine.

I love what you said about Radiohead as franchise. It's very interesting how quickly you've picked that up. And then the lyrics analysis on Panavision was right on the money. Album's very much about ze internutz.

Jonny composes for the string sections and horns too I believe, so they're tapping deeper in their psyche.

You should have more subs man. I’m sorry you don’t for what it’s worth. I for one appreciate your takes & love for the music. Hope that helps the “brutal” a bit.
And yeah, there’s something extremely ethereal to this album.
But there’s also elements of serious throwback grooves & jazzy hooks in there that I greatly appreciate. Still, Thom & Jonny know what they’re doing. We’re definitely plugging into another dimension with these 2. Genius.
    Cheers!

Don’t put Radiohead too far away from Miley Cyrus. They are experimental, complex and deep but it’s definitely filtered through the lens of pop music. I think that’s really what makes them great. There’s a lot of other bands that are more experimental, more complex, and have deeper things to say, but your average mainstream listener isn’t going to like them. Radiohead’s music is the type of stuff Bowie and The Beatles did, taking the experimental avant-garde stuff and making it palatable to most people.
