Florence is a small city at the mouth of the Siuslaw River, on the Oregon coast. Its vast Sea Lion Caves are home to Steller sea lions. Nearby, trails around the restored 19th-century Heceta Head Lighthouse offer views of seabirds and migrating whales. Shops and galleries fill the city’s Historic Old Town district. Across the river are the towering sand mounds of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.

I grew up in Waldport, Oregon, as the sun of a "gippo" logger. We drove 101 south through Florence every day for about five years to the sawmill just south. Florence is, and will always be, my favorite!! Here I am 76 yrs old and longing to return and assume all the memories and life's gifts to return. I lost my soulmate last July to Cancer and when we traveled north during the summer from the damn crematorium here in Southern Arizona, Florence was always on our agenda. Maybe, with some very frugal budget help, I will be able to either live there again or travel there each Southern Arizona Summer. God, I miss may be loved time growing up on the central Oregon Coast.
So many beautiful places you've been sharing! 🙂
Thank you for watching!

A great place to relax n indulge in beautiful nature n local seafood!!! Ah!!!! 🥰
Natural beauty! Thank you for watching!
I retired here 3 years ago from another State. Florence beaches, campgrounds, lakes, sand dunes all amazing. Small town community with people who are friendly, down to earth and respect one another and the environment. You absolutely must tolerate rain (lots) Wind (very windy) and sand !
to live here. We love Florence
Cindy, does it ever come up, how Florence, Oregon got its name? Apparently it's still up for debate. Just curious what your take on it is.
Great comment! I'm glad you found a great place to live! Thank you for watching!

Just close your mouth when you fall. :)
hello my friend
Thank you for watching
I have been living in Florence for nine years. My folks retired here in 1992 and I move down here to take care of them when the time came. I have come to love this town and community and it’s going to be my permanent home. It is a popular retirement destination. It has so much community camaraderie. I have never seen such a small town have so many activities. The volunteer opportunities are great stemming from environmental to transporting cancer patients to their treatments free (which is something I do). We are also known for having exploded a whale disastrously in 1978 that you can Google. We now have a park named the “The Exploding Whale Park”.
The narrator does a good job except his pronunciation of Oregon. This is a sore point for us Oregonians. Ory-gun Is the proper pronunciation
Love the coastal towns!!! Amazing place for the avid hiker! 👍
Love the coast! Thank you for watching!
hello from slovenia🇸🇮 love oregon one of my favorite states
Florence is the Sandboarding Capital of the World and the home to the very first sandboarding park, Sand Master Park. With a 40 mile stretch of coastal dunes it's no wonder the Oregon coast is sandboard central!!
I'd like to visit this place!! looks lovely!
Your video is very beautiful. I like it a lot. I have been trying to talk to you for a long time. I am waiting for your response. Please give me a chance to talk to you..
Thank you for watching!

Florence, Oregon.
How it got its name is still up for debate.
Either named from a shipwreck, near there, and the nameplate of "Florence" from the wrecked ship.
Or, named for 1858-1860, Lane County, Oregon, State Senator, Albert B. Florence.
It would almost make sense that was named for Albert B. Florence, but the Siuslaw Pioneer Museum in Florence, Oregon, highly disputes that.
I think literature actually proves otherwise and that it was named for the Senator, but it's very difficult to get to the bottom of this.
Oh, Yes, when Dad and I were out in the winter logging, his comment was "Well, Son, it is either MUD or DUST"
It's Ore- "gin" similar sound to "Michigan."
Oh boy.....Thanks for that. Sorry about that!
"ore-GONE" is how East coasters and New Yorkers pronounce it 😂
Take take you serious the was you pronounce Ori gone😂
It’s more like Orygin or oragun depending on what part of the state your from but definitely not origone. Great video though
Great informative video but please, learn to pronounce Oregon correctly. I can tell you are from east of the Mississippi. 😉
If you are from Oregon, you don't say Ore-Gone!!!! Geesh, we can't stand that!
OREGUN
I live in Florence and pronounced like 4 things wrong lol just letting ya know
Hi, next time you say Oregon, please pronounce it correctly. It’s not “Ore-e-gone….pronunciation “Orygun” 🌲 Thank you!
You sound sad?
Low vibe?
You ok?
It’s not or-gone it’s Oregun
Oregon like "Ore - again". NOT Orygon. LOL
Obviously, you're not a golfer.
That's not how you pronounce Oregon they will hate you there if you talk like that
Ore-gone?
Go back to Baston.
Nothing to see here...move along. 😅
Dude can’t even pronounce Oregon….
