    Great video Paul! Probably the best I’ve seen honestly. One thing though, I love driving my dct on the “manual mode” but being that I’ve never actually driven a manual car I’m not too sure on how to bring the gears down. Every time I drive it in manual mode I have no problem going up gears but when I’m closing in on a stop or a red light whenever I try to downshift my RPMS shoot up like crazy and the cars engine starts yelling for help! I then freak out and put the car back onto “Drive” until it’s time for me to go again, then I put it back into the manual mode. Any suggestions or thoughts on what I might be doing wrong? Thank you !

    • @paulstake
      @paulstake  4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Thanks Bradley! Okay, As you drive, notice what speed you are doing when you up shift in each gear, that is the same speed you would down shift. Wait until you completely stop before putting it into 1st gear...

    When driving triptronic, what happens if u keep ur foot pressed down on the gas while shifting back down? Does it damage ur car? Do u have to press the break OR let off the gas when shifting down?

    • @paulstake
      @paulstake  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You don't have to lift your foot. It's electronic, so it's the same as if you were in automation with your foot to the floor. The car can and will change gears.

  • @BongelaMnguni
    @BongelaMnguni ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hope this im not asking a silly question, But what happens if you put it on Manual mode, and you keep on accelerating in such a way that you'll go over the red line, does it eventually shift for you? And also, when slowing down, say to a complete stop, and you're in 4th gear does it stall or it shifts down for you?

    • @paulstake
      @paulstake  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It probably depends on the make. On the Scion, it cuts power when it hits redline but it won't shift for you. It will not stall....

    • @InTheSh8
      @InTheSh8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Like in a manual car the first gear is really just for accelerating out of a full stop. You won't really switch back to it before a junction while deceleration. I also try to figure out how to drive it best. Approaching traffic lights I decelerate and try to only shift back to 2, not to get this abrupt "braking" of the first gear. If I have to do a full stop I then switch to 1 when the car is not in motion anymore. On a slope it could be different.

    • @paulstake
      @paulstake  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You really can’t hurt it. It’s computerized. Obviously you can’t downshift when the rpm is up against the redline, besides that just down shift whenever you want. You can lift your foot off the gas or not.... play with it. Just go nuts!

    • @paulstake

      It depends on if you are down shifting when slowing down or to ecellerate faster. I'll assume to ecellerate faster. Basically if you are cruising down the road and you are challenged by a punk in a Ferrari, drop it down two gears and gun it!!!

      You just shift it up into reverse on the shifter, manual mode only affects the forward gears. Most newer cars with this feature get the wheel paddles, especially if it's a sportier type of vehicle.

      Paul is right. You don’t have to let off the gas. It confuses the car when you do. You can ease off a little if you’re trying this out in a new car, and you don’t know it well. Just so you don’t red line it. Since some cars always have a second before they shift. I’d just keep your foot on the gas and shift. Most new cars protect the transmission in these manual modes.

    So u shift up when the RPM gets into the red pretty much?

    • @alexiacedillo983
      @alexiacedillo983 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s recommended to shift up before the RPM gets into the red to prevent damage. Personally, I rev it up to 5 or 6 rpm, but this also depends on the road and traffic conditions you are in.

    • @paulstake
      @paulstake  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, when you down shift it will rev higher giving you more power until it reaches redline. upshift just before it hits redline...

    I used to use clutch when I manually drive, this option don't exist now
    now I got new car,,, I use just D , but need to check should I switch gear down when I slow down ?
