      When I saw the trailer, you are the first person I thought of! I was like "ha!, that looks eerily similar to the adventurers guild in the 1.0 trailer, and the architecture is EXACTLY like the architecture from the early rendering!

    "Is this version of Limsa Lominsa being re-purposed in a future location? Only time will tell."
    Time told me it's called Crystarium in 5.0.

      @XelaShade 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As far we know, the first didn't have major calamities to be changed, so the fact it's the reflection of Source shows that that the devs wanted to keep Rapture for later use sometime in Stormblood

    I like to think this opening with that adventurer's guild is just a small part of what the First originally had and looked like before the Flood of Light. :)

    • @Shadethewolfy

      It makes sense; it's possible that the Crystarium was created as a sort of homage to this original Adventurer's Guild.

  • @SpeakersNetwork

    HUGE detail slipped by my detective eyes in the video! The leveplate Derplander places on the map at 4:15 clearly says "Limsa Lominsa" on the bottom! Guess that removes all doubt!

      Speakers Network This will be part of the Garlean Empire. We will visit that part of Eorsia as parts of it's people rebel against the Empire. We will take root from the sea north of Gyr Abania. Area west Othard will open up as well when the empire tries to take Othard back. Right after they help Eorsian push north of Gyr Abania. Fan will finally see the Garlean in the future.

    • @ShadyGrove14
      @ShadyGrove14 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Right you are! Anonymoose mentioned that detail also in the old 1.0 forum lore section I believe...way back when. The leve plate truly does say Limsa Lominsa at the top!

    • @Kisai_Yuki
      @Kisai_Yuki 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It was clearly Limsa Lominsa, always was. When video of Rapture came back around sometime ago, many people noticed this early Limsa Lominsa location was in the V1.0 cutscene. But go back to that rapture cutscene and take note of the layout.
      The speculation was that they just made it way too tiny and a decision at some point was to move all the Aetheryte's outside of the adventurer's guilds, hence why all the guilds are these large spaces of the same size. One more thing, look at the shape of that Aetheryte in the V1.0 opening. What location has that shape? They then likely replaced all the glass with solid walls due to draw distance issues (notice how there are no windows you can see out of anywhere?) Notice how the location of each Aetheryte plaza seems more bolted-on than integrated into the surroundings?
      As for the Artwork of the Red Mage Miqo'te. That is still the same Miqo'te companion from the FFXIV V1.0 opening, just like derplander. It is VERY LIKELY that SE only has high-detail versions of that one set, the 5 characters we see in the opening (gawd do they look terrible in low-poly versions from the end of V3.x as warriors of darkness,) and that's it. We know they have other high-resolution sets because they appear in the openings. SE is free to use these characters because they're really supposed to be the game's default Male Midlander that the game defaults to and 5 other characters that showed up in that opening.

    • @steamtacular
      @steamtacular 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You also failed to notice that the red mage? Is the miqote from the 1.0 opening movie.

    • @ColorOfSakura
      @ColorOfSakura 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yep - Koji also confirmed this back in 2012 on the early forums where people were asking about the 1.0 CG trailer as well: forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/57049-CG-Midlander?p=898626&viewfull=1#post898626
      And your guess was basically right on the money - the visual works team was too far along in concept when Limsa's design was finalized, so they just kept the look for the trailer.

    It gives me hope for either this being in Thavnair or maybe somewhere in the Ivalice themed zones. I mean... apparently Rabanastre and Dalmasca are cities somewhere in the world, so who knows. Of course I'm also saying this mostly just because I have really high hopes we'll actually get some kind of zone to explore there, but the odds are -very- slim. But who knows. We got a small area for the Void Ark stuff, and this expansion has a higher budget- at the least we may get some kind of adventurer's guild to launch our Return to Ivalice adventures from. But... that's mostly just me being hopeful :P

    I know it's a year late, but the cat girl in the picture of the red mage CGI art is the same one in the cutscene as well! Quite possibly why they used the backdrop or the backdrop was the reason they used her!

  • @SpaceDrake
    @SpaceDrake 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Oh thank god I wasn't the only one who noticed that the RDM backdrop was a reuse of the Adventurer's Guild from 1.0.
    Also, I believe Koji or another team member did confirm in another place that the adventurer's guild in the 1.0 CG was a beta version of Limsa's guild, they actually *tried it* in the game and even then, stubborn as they were, they realized "oh heck, if the aetheryte is right there in the Wench it'll bring everyone's computers to their knees due to congestion".

    • @SpaceDrake
      @SpaceDrake 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Okay, yes indeed, Koji did answer this all the way back in 2012 like I thought - it is indeed a beta version of the Limsa Lominsa guild, straight from the horse's mouth. forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/57049-CG-Midlander?p=898626#post898626
      (You even missed a little something, Lukile - the guildleves have Limsa Lominsa engraved on them. The other detective work is good stuff, though!)
      Now, as to why the CG team used that old layout in 2017... well, it was just a neat backdrop they had lying around as old files, right?
      Maybe. We'll have to see...

    To think this became The Crystarium, with the actual bar tender.

  • @Beneficialitificul
    @Beneficialitificul 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A bit late in the game on my comment Lukile but something interesting to note.. Glynard, the barkeep at the top of the Wandering Stairs in the Crystarium.. Looks like the same Roegadyn Derplander gets the leves from in the 1.0 cinematic, down to the marking on his forehead. Likely modeled after him. For that matter, the whole look of the bar area there seems heavily borrowed from that adventurer's guild.

    Maybe that old place was to be a location for a future date in 1.0 that of cause never happened? And maybe they are thinking of bringing it out for 4.0? Or maybe even 5.0? They do like to put future secret spoils into things they are showing for current/soon to be current content :3

  • @redcloud16
    @redcloud16 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So, after seeing the video I agree that it was the early concept Limsa, it certainly looks exactly like it; however, I had heard that people were able to datamine 1.0 back in the day, and that the opening scenes took place in the then-Ishgard Adventurer's Guild after someone was able to see the in-progress Ishgard environment. I've thought it was Ishgard this whole time until now.
    HOWEVER x2! Seeing it used as the backdrop of the Red Mage makes me wonder if it wasn't Ala Mhigo this entire time . . .

  • @LarienXI
    @LarienXI 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Ages ago, this was actually confirmed by the developers themselves to be the Ala Mighan capitol's guild as it took place before the invasion it suffered- the scene was stated to be 20 years before the game's start in 2.0 (15 from 1.0) as I recall... So that would be why the backdrop was re-used, and we will hopefully see it again soon officially.

    • @SpeakersNetwork
      @SpeakersNetwork  7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Actually, this was confirmed to be Limsa Lominsa by Koji Fox on the 1.0 Lore Forum! A thread I didn't even read before this episode was made. forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/57049-CG-Midlander?p=898626&viewfull=1#post898626
      ". The answer to the second question is where we encounter our first main hiccup. Many have commented that the setting has to be Ishgard because no other Adventurers’ Guild has its own aetheryte. However, when looking closely at the guildleves that the Midlander brings back from the counter, we can see that the plates have Limsa Lominsa engraved in the frames (a detail I didn't even catch. too busy looking at the map lol), which can only mean that it was the thalassocracy that issued them. The reason behind the flub is fairly simple-the Visual Works team that designed the first opening movie began work on it far before the in-game layout of Limsa’s Adventurers’ Guild was finalized. By the time the map team had decided that the aetheryte was going in a separate plaza to help cut down on congestion of the Adventurers’ Guild, the CGI was too far along to change without setting the completion date back, and so they left it as-is. (This also explains the Miqo’te eye discrepancy. Nice catch, by the way!)"

  • @meakimon

    Amazing episode!! Loved it, and eagerly looking forward to the next episode! The skit at the start was very funny and made for a neat background in the endcard.^^
    As for theories, I had thought that was QuickSands to be honest, but you won me over easily. It would always be fun to see Square reuse ANYTHING from early development, now that we have a much sturdier team. I doubt they would use it for Garlemald, but another expansion, maybe another location. I would still like to see more of Gelmorra proper, and see what lies to the west. :D

    I actually could of told someone it was Limsa Lominsa if someone asked "where the 1.0 cut-scene was taking place". But after this video, i would be 1 month subscription that we will actually see a different island with the 1.0 LL structural concept idea. :-)

    No, that's just what the Limsa guild looks like in that alternate universe where it's Hraesvalgr attacking Ishgard rather than Nidhogg.
    Which is the world the Warriors of Darkness come from, cuz why not. They certainly went out of their way to make the WoD look like the CG intro movie characters.

  • @MythicMagus
    @MythicMagus 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    My guess as to where this guild could be reused would be is in the rumored expansion to the current Adventurer Squadron system. Serving as an upgrade to your current barracks (maybe after clearing a new hard squad mission?) it would act as a hub for further squad missions. The key difference would be that you would be leading your squad on the missions, so the aetherite would function as where you would select which mission to go on.
    As far as why the location was featured in the RDM CG art the short answer is: Asset Reuse. To expand on my guess it stands to reason that all the assets for FFXIV's CG movies exist in one large asset library that allows the artists to call up a large number of finished models when needed. Seeing as the WOL PC model from the amazing "End of an Era" cutscene released at the end of V1 looks largely the same (armor nonwithstanding) as the one used in the V1 opening I would assume that the models for the Guild in the V1 opening still exist in that asset database and when they were building the SAM/RDM CG art someone ended up using objects from the V1 opening (the glass dome skylight window is clearly one) to build the background for the RDM CG.

    This has probably been posted already but I just noticed it trolling around Limsa. There's a table in the Drowning Wench at which is sat a male Hyur, male Elezen and female Miqo'te, and the latter two are pretty much identical to the ones from the 1.0 cutscene minus clothing. It made me giggle :)

    Interesting to think of how Black Mage is Thanalan and White mage is The Black Shroud, it would make sense to connect the 3rd mage class to the 3rd city once those 2 are related to the other 2 mages.

    I'm surprised you didn't get triggered when you mentioned flower barrels. But great video, and very interesting. I honestly thought that the 1.0 video took place in Ul'dah, but now you got me thinking that you're right.

    And I thought you'd never come to "the rapture" video! I had the very same feeling when I did see that new red mage render. I guess next time I will have to make a video too when I spot something~ Or I'll just finally send out my mail I have prepared for your call for proof readers.
    Anyway, thanks for the video! Well done!

    Could it be that they've been planning RDM all along, and this picture is actually quite old?

    The reason why they used it: it was already there as a high resolution model. Simple as that.
    Now I'm no expert in 3D graphics but you can't really mesh well a highly detailed model with the in-game graphics and textures, at least if you want that amount of detail to show. If you look at the ARR or HW renders they're usually close-ups with little to none background visible, just some blurry scenery and glowy particles, something you can simply add in Photoshop even. Only the Astrologian one shows a little more, on the background seems to be Foundation so yet again, they may have used the model made for the HW cinematic trailer. As for the Samurai one, because you can see full view of the character and a good amount of surroundings, it is in comparison a "lazy" environment meaning it's all textures and technically everything out of the character may have been added in Photoshop.

    Dude your deduction abilities are top notch. The early concept of Limsa was really beautiful, but I can see how it wouldn't work well in the first three parts of the game, considering the PS3 support. I hope they'll bring it back somehow, maybe in Thavnair, like some people commented here, or that would also work well for Sharlayan. If they used it in the CGI promo for a new class, it just feels like they're sad to scrap this concept completely, as it must have been a lot of work to create it in the first place, so, why not try to use it, right?

    Honestly I really really like the glass aesthetic of old Limsa I hope it comes back somehow in a new area or something but it's probably more likely that was a background they happened to have had that they threw on because it was one that wasn't used yet or something.

    I always wondered where that trailer had it's location set...then again Limsa does have an adventurers' guild...but not as nice as what we have in A Realm Reborn...perhaps it might be repurposed in the next expansion maybe.

    Did anyone notice there are copies of these two NPC's sitting in the adventurer's guild in Limsa?

  • @Serzha
    @Serzha 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    To be honest it looks more like they had initially placed the adventurer's guild where the aetheryte in Limsa is NOW.. and later relocated it elsewhere, rather than relocating the aetheryte.
