Eric Clapton on lead guitar, Klaus Voorman on bass, Ringo Starr on drums, recorded in October 1969 while Lennon was still officially a member of The Beatles. He officially quit within the month.

John Lennon - Bob Dylan. My favorite lyric writers. The most obvious difference between them is Dylan writes very abstract lines that are often difficult to understand his true meaning that is always very deep. He tells incredible stories about others and social commentary mixed into the verses. John Lennon comes right to the point. He is the most HONEST writer I’ve ever heard. Very little questions as to the meaning of his songs. He says what he thinks/believes leaving little doubt as to the points he makes.
It was Bob Dylan who encouraged Lennon to write the way he does. I am certain that in the entire history of music nobody will ever exceed the pure brilliance of both their writings. I like to say they are the Number One Coolest Guy Ever- John Lennon. Dylan is a close second Coolest Guy Ever.

      Dylan writes many different ways.
And if I am the Walrus is straight and to the pint, I want some of your drugs.
      Glass Onion? Strawberry Fields?
Lennon has more abstract songs that he has love songs.

I remember it well. The Beatles were imploding.
Each one of them was recording their own material.
Some used within the group’s output (even though only one or two of them were there in the studio) and some as solo records.
Creativity of each of them was driving them apart and the moon was rising from the wrong horizon

Quite a band on this one - Ringo on drums, Eric Clapton (with Lennon) on guitar, and the bass is by Klaus Voormann, who was the cover artist of The Beatles Revolver album (for which he won a grammy).

John proposed this song to the Beatles. Obviously no one wanted to put this out as a Beatles' product. The Beatles were still a wholesome group in the eyes of the general public. A song about heroin withdrawal was not going to down well. So, he just did it himself along with a few musical buddies.

This song does have a very modern feel to it, I'd love to hear a modern band cover it some time. Killer song, nice and punk-ish (am I using 'punk-ish' right? I haven't heard too much punk, but from what I know it's something like this).
I'd love to see a reaction to Every Night by Paul McCartney and Beware of Darkness by George Harrison.

This was one of the first songs John did after the Beatles but he put out solo songs before the Beatles broke up. There never really was an official break up, sort of. They could have always got back together and I am sure had John not been killed at 40 they would have. Maybe not to record music but to do a couple live shows. So sad John died so young.

I suspect that you won't see this comment, but as someone who's just gone through the experience of cold turkey, I can say with absolute certainty that this song is a description of the truth. It involved more than the 36 hours of pain that he has in the song, for me anyway. But the core feeling of rolling in pain and every part of your body trying to get away is real. Credit to you for playing this song about a subject that is even worse today than it was then. Peace 💚

The abrasive guitar sound and the mood of the whole song belong to the era of post punk inthe late 70s and early 80s.
