    I like the looks of the '59 Rambler! Fins are not too big, in my opinion. I would love to re-combine the letters that spell "Ambassador" to spell "badass".

    Wow!! Your video really hit close to home with me. I couldn't believe someone else found a 59 Ambassador! I've owned one for 51 years now,inherited from my parents,and they got it from my grandfather in '66. As you already probably realize it's a rare car. Been taking mine to car shows for decades now and only saw them if at a nash or amc rambler club meet. Virtually no reproduction parts are available and nos has dried up too. I have two friends,one bought a 58 wagon,and the other a 59 like yours. They both gave up and sold them unfinished, which was a disappointment to me as I was looking forward to have all three at a car show in the future. . He managed to find those fender bombsite ornaments n.o.s. and he had to pay a small fortune for them. They are delicate and easily broken I paid $10.00 for a pair back in 1980 at a swap meet. Love the connie kit. Mine has one too. Mine also has the rarest of the options,air coil ride. People always point at the belt driven air compressor mounted above the power steering pump and ask what it is! I wish you all the luck in the world with yours! You'll certainly stand out at any car show surrounded by blue ovals and bowties!😄

    I started driving in the early seventies whan you can buy a used car not running for a few years, not more then 10 years old for $100 bucks. All it might need is a few tires, new battery, a tuneup, oil change, a headlight, a water pump and maybe an alternator and some brakes too. You would get a couple of years out of it and sell it for $ 500 bucks and get a car you liked better that need some repair. Those cars were in way better condition than any of these cars. The floorboards were all solid, hardly any rust at all. Just a few dings and dents . Even the A/C worked sometimes if you added a can of freon. I wouldn't touch these pieces of junk back then.

    I had a Kaiser Wagoneer '68 model year with that 327. Despite only having the 2bbl Holley 2209 it had rather a lot of moxie. With your lighter vehicle, and with the 4-holer, and the engine in good tune, this ride should be quite potent. Before you run it too long best advised to check the condition of the camshaft sprocket and chain assembly. Some of those came through with aluminum camshaft sprocket with nylon coated teeth. It is an "interference" design motor,. And I found it out the hard way. I made the mistake of not checking for slop, which would havve caused me to pull the chaincase cover and discover all the nylon had broken awayl leaving a very sloppy chain. The chain jumped time while idling in the driveway. It bent all the valves and push rods. I had to pull the heads and send them out for a rebuild. The pistons only got some "eyebrow" marks on their tops, but otherwise unscathed. The cylinder walls looked fine, so the shortblock assembly was OK. Replaced the sprockets and chain, fitted the rebuilt heads, and put the rest of it back together, and it ran fine.

    I fixed up a 64 770 with a 327. Nice car. Growing up,we had a 59 Cross Country wagon. We drove it from Michigan to Ft. Lewis, Washington. Then it went to Germany where it fell apart. The wipers wouldn't shut off, it lost reverse gear and the radiator leaked. I had to put water in the radiator every time we went anywhere and take spare water with us because it leaked out fast. It probably got crushed and recycled as a Volkswagen. It was a real nice car when my mom bought it in 62. I want a 67 Ambassador 2 door hardtop. I have a JoHan one 25th scale model of one that I've had since Christmas of 66. I don't think many people who were even around then remember how beautiful they were. When the 63s came out, they GOT me.

      @kenglavens6455 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Forgot to mention that it got hit by a tank in Ft. Lewis and a big heavy German military flagpole blew over onto it in Coburg. In Ft. Lewis, my parents and their friends put on a Hawaiian Lou au and I remember bringing a huge dead pig home in the back of the wagon. That car went through more than most PEOPLE do.

      Did someone swap in a 327? 64 Classic 770 came with a 196 six or a 287 v8

    • @kenglavens6455
      @kenglavens6455 ปีที่แล้ว

      AMC produced their own 327. It came out in '56 and was used in the last Nash and Hudson. It was not a Chevy engine..it was a heavy and sturdy engine and not compact like a small block Chevy. It powered the '57 Rambler Rebel which was considered by some to be one of if not the first muscle cars. They were available in Classics and Ambassadors through the 1966 model years. By 67, they had their 1964 designed 232 "6" and the newly designed 290 and 343 which were up to the minute modern designs at the time and very good engines.

    You won't believe this when I was 14 I restored this exact same year make and model of car but not the one car in the video of course I restored a different one but yes and then later on I forgot to high school a couple years I restored in 1969 rambler ambassador and a 1963 rambler ambassador. I bet you tons of babies was made by high schoolers in the 50s with cars that had the back seats that fold into a bed at the local drive in, I knowe and my highschool sweetheart who is my wife now made love for the first time in the back of my restored 1959 rambler ambassador just like one on video, I drove it to school my senior year first day of school beautiful frame up restoration done by just me only literally I did all the work and welding and body work paint I sprayed my self motor I built and all it is beautiful and won 10 car shows already and I finished it June 19th 2009 when I turned 16 9 days before I drove the car for the first time. And I'm now 30 put 46,980 miles on it still looks flawless and beautiful to this day besides the occasional mark here and there in paint from rocks and road debries and just normal driving wear but it's reliable never broke down on me zero paint work failure no rust anywhere showing through so I have to say I did a good job for ok from age 13 to 16 working jobs every summer and all school year to pay for it my self as well cost me 8500 dollars to restore it frame off restoration and if I would have had shops do the work and body shop do all body paint work it would have cost me 40,500 just from labor. I did the body work in my auto body shop class for my whole junior year we made it our class project for everyone to help work on and learn with supervision of a teacher who owns a local body shop and been doing it for 45 years.

      @@somewhatfast I'm 30 I graduated in 2010 and started on the car I got it for 200 dollars from this old man and the deal was I must restore it and take him for a ride in it since for some reason I loved that car so much. So summer of 2006 is when I got the car and finished it in er of 2009 and drove it to school my first day of my senior year in 2009 and graduated that year in 2010. I bought the car with my my birthday money June 10 2006 and finished it June 14 or 19 of 2009. My buddies made fun of me saying I bought a grandpa's classic car and that I'll never get it restored cuse it was taking me so long they said to do it and that it's ugly and just was dogging on me about it but when it was finished in seafoam green color with bright shiny polished stainless steel trim it came with from factory and chre bumpers and grills and interior matched the exterior exactly like it did off show room floor the dash and main color of seats matched the paint color with white stitching and polished aluminum trim in interior and accents. And I restored the inline 6 it came with to factory condition I stored that properly to go with the car and I built a big Chrysler 360 motor to go into it that was making 870 horsepower to the crank. The tires I ordered from a company that does recap tires for dirt and asphalt oval track racing called towel City and they made me 4 sets of tires which the rears was period correct style piecrusts aka cheater drag tires back in the day to complete the stock grandpa sleeper look. I literally built what a rambler would look like as a sleeper in the 60s using period correct racing parts I found on eBay and ordered the tires of course like I said. When you store brand new specialty tires that you have made like that you can preserve the shelf life on them so they don't dry rot in the shop and get hard and lose it's soft compound by doing what I do for dirt and asphalt racing tires we wrap it in plastic wrap for baking and wrap it very tightly and alot of wrap with tire preservation chemicals you buy from hooiser or any online racing suppl warehouse and company like day motorsports as well.

      @@somewhatfast bad thing about my AMC addiction is it's hard to find new remanufactured parts that are OEM or even after market like you can for Chevelles and Camaros but nice thing is mechanical stuff is literally parts from other manufacturers like the distributors and coils and ignition systems are either ford's or Chevy ones and even stamped with Chevy and Ford numbers on them sometimes and your generators and alternators are crystler of course and any motor you need you can use Chrysler sometimes from a dodge or Chrysler classic cars and numbers match. Bad part is body parts you gotta buy used body panels and floor pans cuse nobody makes new replacements like you can get for Chevelles and Camaros and chargers and ECT. I'm currently building a 1971 AMC javelin non amx car it's gonna be a pro street style car like you use to build back in the 70s tuck drag slicks up under it while keeping it low to the ground with a big 400 plus cubic inch motor with a supercharger or huge volocity stack carbs and a AMC gremlin amx I'm restoring that back to OEM specs cuse it's a beautiful amx that is unmolested and in mint condition
