    Wow! Thank you so much for the mention. I am so happy that you really enjoyed Kindred and so honored my reviewed inspired you to read it sooner. Just hearing you talk about it gave me chills all over again. What a stellar reading month you had overall!

    What a great reading month! Love seeing a Luna cameo 🐶. We felt similarly about The Wren, The Wren, Enter Ghost, 8 Lives, and And Then She Fell. Brotherless Night didn’t land quite as well for me. For a book written in a memoir style, I found it to be more emotionally distant than I wanted.
    Wishing you a full and speedy recovery. Take care.

      Thank you! Yes, Luna insists on always being in the videos. 😅 Good to hear we had similar thoughts on most of the books. It’s interesting to hear that Bortherless Night was emotionally distant for you. I think I read her detached feeling as a combo of her profession and PTSD, so it rang really authentic for me. But the joy of reading is always that different people get different things from each book.
      Thank you! I’m looking forward to getting through this and back up and running. 💜

    🥰 what a strong month! I’m not a prize reader but there were a couple on the nonfiction list that sounded interesting. 🤔 All that She Carried & Thunderclap

      Thank you! Yes, it really was a solid month! I’ve only briefly skimmed the nonfiction list, but now that I have a bit more reading time, I’ll have to check it out.

    I am so glad you got to Know My Name. It really is one of the best memoirs I have ever read. That perfect mix of an important story and amazing writing. I loved Unbound as well. I am adding Tell Me Everything and Between Two Kingdoms to the list right now!

      @BandysBooks  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Definitely. I put it off for so long, but it was really remarkably well done. So was Unbound. I think you will probably like both of those memoirs, although I think Between Two Kingdoms was imo the better of the two.

    I'm glad to hear that And Then She Fell worked for you---my hold for it just came in!

      Just be warned, it is a bizarre book. I think you’ll get to the weird left turn and feel really disoriented like I did. But if you get through it and look at the whole book as a large picture, I think there’s a lot of meaning in there.

    I think And Then She Fell sounds intriguing. Loved Kindred - it was a top book for me last year.

      It is an intriguing, but odd book. I think it’s worth reading though! And yes! I think Kindred will be a top book for me too.

    Sorry that you didn’t like The Wren The Wren. I wasn’t as excited about Brotherless Night. I thought it was good, but I had some issues with it. I agree about Kindred. (Did I hear Luna snoring?🤓) Not sure I could have made it through those social justice/ sa books.

    • @BandysBooks
      @BandysBooks  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didn’t hate The Wren, The Wren, but I realize that I often find that moody, character focused Irish writing to not really be my favorite thing. Yeah, not everyone loves Brotherless Night and I didn’t think the structure was perfect, but I appreciated seeing the story through a woman’s eyes and I thought so many parts were so moving. Yes, you heard Luna snoring.😅 She liked to lay right under the camera to make sure everyone can hear her. Ahh the SA books were a bit depressing in terms of the “justice” system, but I think I took from them a lot of positives too. The overwhelming resilience and bravery of women, the refusal to be victims, the continued fight against a system that is rigged, etc. I won’t say it was easy reading, but I do think it’s necessary reading.

    Love your shirt! So much I went on Amazon and bought one similar! Great reviews, Kindred is already on my TBR, adding Between two kingdoms as I have been dealing with Stage 4 metastatic cancer since August 2015.

      Ohh Mary. I am so sorry to hear that. I hope that you find Between Two Kingdoms as cathartic as I did. You will likely relate to it even more than I did. Sending you all of the love and good thoughts for your continued journey. My email is BandysBooks@gmail.com if you ever need someone to chat with a bit. 💜
      That’s awesome that you picked up a shirt! My mom got me this one and it’s become one of my favorites!

    All of your 5⭐️ reads sound like books I'd like to read. I have read very few books that focus on Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, and Palestine. I thought Tell Me Everything was impactful. I would like to read the other three memoirs, especially Between Two Kingdoms.

      I will add the ones I own copies of to your “to borrow” box. Definitely space them out a bit as they can be a bit heavy.

    David Mitchell just doesn't work for me at all. I also really struggled with The Bone Clocks but whatever way he writes magical realism just never does it for me. I'm really excited to read Brotherless Night, I'll think I will bump it up my TBR

    • @BandysBooks
      @BandysBooks  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggled with it. I hope you enjoy Brotherless Night. It's a bit slow and reflective, but I think it's pretty well done.
