    I started reading Suneater because of your reviews and it will likely eclipse all other series and be my favorite series of all time! I just finished book 3 and so far all 3 have been 5 stars for. The novellas are fine as a bonus but the main novels are spectacular!

      That is so good to hear, Ashley! Especially if it ends up becoming your favorite series of all time. Book 4 is another terrific book. So brutal and dark, though. Good luck! :)

    In april, I finished Iron Gold and The Eye of the World. That last 1/3 of Iron Gold was spectacular: it had everything I was missing from the first triligy, and the two POVs I had a problem with, finally clicked.
    TEOTW I have no words. I really enjoyed it, and now that I'm at great hunt, this has opened uo so much, and it only gets better from here.

    Quality over quantity? I will take that all day!
    Excellent selection! I'm sneaking in Suneater as much as I can without making me feel too bad disrutping my TBR. It's worth it! I can't wait to get into Tad Williams, a number of his books have been on my TBR for a hot minute.
    NGL, I heard Buns of Chaos instead of Bonds of Chaos (might have been halfway listening) and didn't know you were getting into those kinds of books lol. I'm looking forward to this trilogy as well.
    The Godeater Saga sounds interesting, can't wait to see how it all comes together for you.
    I finished up We Are Legion (We Are Bob) and Stone and Sky. I thought they were great. They were more lighthearted and fun, despite some of the heavier story elements. It was a nice refresher from Best Served Cold that I finished at the end of March. I started Tigana and couldn't finish it, maybe I'll try again later. I have some shorter books going this month, so I'll hopefully squeeze in a few more (already wrapped one up and have two others going).

    • @PetrikLeo
      @PetrikLeo  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you so much! Quality over quantity indeed. Tad Williams' books are beautiful slow-burn epic fantasy. Really worth your time when you're in the right reading mood! I will let you know my thoughts on my experience of reading The God Eater Saga.
      I heard so many great things about Bobiverse. Definitely have to try that someday! Too bad about Tigana btw. Tigana was the only book by Guy Gavriel Kay that I loved so far. I think his epic fantasy books are better than his historical fantasy. Unfortunately, he wrote only 4 epic fantasy books. :')

      @@PetrikLeo Tigana felt like a very slow start and I'm not normally one to complain about that. I tried to have that as my work listen, so I may have not been focused enough to let it really catch. I'll try it as my main book either at the end of this month or early next month. Given what others have said, it may just be that I wasn't giving it its due level of focus, which I acknowledge some books need.

    Glad you found another favorite. Not counting the fact that I did my 7th re-read of "Piranesi", I read two more books: "Herald"by Rob J. Hayes, wich was intresting and "The Book That Broke the World" by Mark Lawrence, that was a mixed feelings experience. But the novella I read in April had the most positive impact for me as I had some mental health strugles. "Siatah Samurai" by Tatiana Obey is mostly dedicated to black women, but even I could relate and I was so grateful for everithing that the novella offered.

    I had an weird April. I read the last two Throne of Glass Novels for a friend, because it is her favorite series, and they were alright. Probably not a series I will read again but they were enjoyable. I read Psalm for the wild-built for a book club and it was another alright book because I thought it was too in my face when it came to the themes it wanted to convey and especially because I read Fool’s Errand which takes some of those sam themes of finding meaning in life and does them perfectly with just the right amount of subtext while still tackling other themes. Fool’s Errand was a phenomenal 5 star book. I also tried to read City of Last Chances twice last month and could NOT enjoy it. Nothing hooked me and it felt like there was no character I could stick to in the book so I DNFed it. I’ll probably check it out again later. I finished my month reading The Lies of Locke Lamora which I expected to be along the lines of something like Discworld and Hitchhiker’s Guide but I just loved that book so much and I easily gave it 5 stars. I then started Disquiet Gods which I finished last night and again, another 5 star book. I have been getting hit after hit recently and I think the next to books I’m going to read (Of Darkness and Light and Golden Fool) will also be Five Stars.
    I am so excited to read the Godeater books though. I haven’t read Rob J Hayes but I am very excited to check him out. I also am getting extremely excited to read The Dragonbone Chair in June. He is compared to Hobb and she is my favorite author so this makes me very excited.

    I finished reading "Memory, sorrow..." last month and hope to read "The last king..." later this year because how good "MST" is, but it somewhat hurts to know that Simon and Miriamele and probably others will suffer even more after what they had been through (and that is probably why I wasn't against happy ending in "MST").
    This is also the reason why I'm not sure if i start reading "The realm of the Elderlings" in the nearest future, though it is tempting knowing that Robin Hobb is as great at prose and character's development as Tad Williams)
    Looking forward to see your further reviews on "The last king...", the previous ones contributed partly to the hype i had for "MST" (especially "To green angel tower") and I will be glad to see the new ones!

    • @PetrikLeo
      @PetrikLeo  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I get what you're saying! The ending of To Green Angel Tower was incredibly satisfying. And as you can probably guess... Simon and Miriamele, along with other returning characters, definitely suffer in Witchwood Crown... I think that's also why Tad Williams waited more than 20 years before returning back to The World of Osten Ard.

    - Gearing up for a First Law re-read.
    *Memoir*
    The Disaster Artist / Greg Sestero & Tom Bissell
    - I don't usually like audiobooks, but this was great. I never tire learning about bts stuff of Tommy Wiseau's The Room. The film adaptation with James Franco does play a lot of the content in the book up for laughs, even the creepy and really toxic parts of Tommy and Greg's friendship (huge power and financial imbalance going on), and that's not even mentioning Wiseau's onset behaviour...
    *Thriller*
    Grave Descend / Michael Crichton
    - Kinda forgettable.

      Awesome! I suggest lowering your expectation for Rainwild Chronicles. But the last trilogy in Elderlings is my favorite trilogy in the entire Elderlings series. Such an impeccable conclusion. Enjoy! I hope you'll continue reading The Sun Eater!

    I’ve been really fickle with my reading lately and I don’t know why. I’ve been reading books, getting midway through it, and then putting it down and picking up a new one. I’ve been smack dab in the middle of Demon in White for 3 weeks now but instead of reading more I picked up The Expanse book 4, and then midway through that I reread most of The Will of the Many before going BACK to The Expanse🤦🏻‍♂️. The first book that started this was Reapers Gale, which was really weird because I was LOVING that book and then just stopped midway through. Same thing happened with Of War and Ruin. I’ve been doing that on Audible but I haven’t picked it back up in over 2 months, again weird because I was also really enjoying that one. I think I just have to start only picking up 1 book at a time from the library from now on, because the grass is always greener when I’m reading books with more on my TBR😂 I really want to read The Silverblood Promise next month, but I have to wait on my library.

      Sometimes this happens. I'm feeling it a bit, too, right now. The urge to start something new while I'm in the middle of something is really strong lately. I hope this weird reading mood will change soon for you. And for me. :D

    I am really excited to start on «Memory, Sorrow & Thorn» this Summer! 😄
    After a slow March, I finished in April «The Fort» by Adrian Goldsworthy (City of Victory Trilogy #1, Historical Military Fiction set during the Campaigns of Roman Emperor Trajan, Sequel Trilogy to the «Vindolandia» Trilogy), «Empire of Silence» by Christopher Ruocchio (Sun Eater #1, Space Opera/Sci Fantasy), «Islands in the Net» by Bruce Sterling (80’s (Post-)Cyberpunk 😄), «Howling Dark» (Sun Eater #2) and «Idoru» by William Gibson (90s Cyberpunk 😄).
    For now, «The Fort» is my book of the month, as I loved being back with the characters I had come to really enjoy by the end of the «Vindolandia» Trilogy and Goldsworthy really knows how to weave real history into his story! I have really enjoyed «Sun Eater» so far, I know «Demon in White» is the favorite of many, so maybe I just need one more book in the series to go from enjoying to loving it! And the Cyberpunk book where really fun and interesting, so a great reading month for both of us! 😄

      @@PetrikLeo To give you a sample: You might have caught that Kharn Sagara says to Hadrian «Sibylla ti theleis». I am 100% sure that is a reference to the Epigraph of T.S. Elliot’s famous poem «The Waste Land» (which in a loose narrative deal with death and rejuvenation, faith and post-war depression, with multiple allusions and references to Ancient Literature, Religious Texts and Arthurian Myth), itself lifted from Petronius’ «Satyricon», meaning «Sibyl, what do you want?» (The Sibyl being a Roman Oracle, this specifically being the Cumaean Sibyl who in «The Aeneid» guides the Trojan Hero and Roman Ancestor Aeneas through Hades and who had been granted immortality (though importantly without eternal youth) by the god Apollo, being spoken to in Greek, to which she replies «apothanein thelo»: «I want to die»)!
      Is it any wonder that it takes me some time to research and double check everything?! 😂

    I didn't have a 5 star book in April, but two 4.5 stars. That was Shadows of Self and He Who Drowned The World. I also read the (chronologically) first three Tales of Bauchelain and Korbal Broach. Especially The Wurms of Blearmouth was wild. Like a very dark slapstick comedy.
    I also like to read some non SFF every month and this month I had good picks with Marriage of a Thousand Lies by SJ Sindu and The Thief by Fuminori Nakamura.

      Shadows of Self was great! I need to read He Who Drowned the World. I think it's good to diversify our reading with other genres even if our main preferences are still fantasy and sci-fi books! :)

    For some reason I didn't have mood for any gaming this month, so I managed to finish an unusual amount of books (for me).
    First one was Empire of Silence. I have to say I didn't really love it. It's 2.5 out of 5 for me. I recognize the world building, which is amazing. And also the prose. But it was just so long and there was nothing important happening most of the time! Like if it was 300 pages shorter, I think I would like it much more. It didn't really help that I just didn't like Hadrian or his decision making. I will see, I will definitely give a try to the sequel and hopefully it will pull me in better.
    Next up was Ghostwater and Underlord by Will Wight. What can I say, I loved them. Both probably 4.5 out of 5 for me. I just love Cradle. I actually think I liked Ghostwater more, which is unusual from what I have seen online.
    Next up, The Concrete Blonde by Michael Connelly. This is a crime novel, from the detective Harry Bosch series, specifically the 3rd one. I saw and loved Harry Bosch tv series on Amazon Prime and when I found out it's based on a book, I decided to read it. I was actually thinking about reading some other genres besides fantasy for a long time, so I dive into one of the Bosch books after every couple of fantasy novels. It's working great, so much that I would like to also start some other thriller series (preferably something with serial killers and like FBI profilers or something, I love that stuff) and I also have some horror books on my TBR now.
    And the last one was Of Fire and Blood by Ryan Cahill. Needless to say, I loved it! 4 out of 5. I mean, sure, the first half is basically Malice and Wheel of Time and LotR and Star Wars hybrid, but as I said in my goodreads review - those tropes are tropes for a reason. And I just cannot wait for the sequel, I love the characters and need to know where it all goes!
    Other than that, I also read through the first 4 volumes of Jujutsu Kaisen. I saw the first season of anime, so it was mostly just a catchup, as the anime adaptation was following it very closely.
    This is the biggest reading month for me in decades (at least since I left high school) and I have to thank a combination of NHL playoff, Champions League matches (I like reading while sports broadcast is in background) and a rather strange unwilingness to fire up my ps5 or switch.

    • @PetrikLeo
      @PetrikLeo  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wow. That is an odd reading month. Too bad about Empire of Silence! I hope Howling Dark will hook you better. If you still don't like Howling Dark, I think it's worth considering DNFing the series. I doubt the series will be for you.
      Glad to hear you loved Cradle and Of Blood and Fire, though. The series only gets better from here. For both of them.
      I, on the other hand, really want to play video games but don't seem to have the time. It's crazy. I used to play video games all the time but not so much now. :(

    Hi Petrik , my TBR keeps growing cos of you. But, no regrets. I am finding a lot of good picks by your suggestions. However, I am curious about one thing, you being an avid fantasy reader - I don’t find you mentioning Grishaverse by Leigh Burdugo anywhere - like Shadow and bone trilogy, six of crows duology etc.,. Did you happen to read them ?
