One of the best things about ccbs is that it's backwards compatible with all the old bionicle systems, and that makes for such amazing mocs. You can even attach ccbs armor to old limb parts with some techniques. I'm really sad that ccbs was Essentially abandoned.

i don't think it was abandoned at all, bionicle evolved to ccbs, then ccbs to ballshaft. the complexity of build you can achieve with all the "lego buildings systems" is impressive.

I missed Bionicle G1 due to being born in 2003. Hero Factory was my childhood. And while the Bionicle G2 sets were awesome, I still want Hero Factory to come back. Like, if Lego alternated betwwen Hero Factory and Bionicle every 5 years or so, that'd be awesome, and everyone could be happy.

Perhaps they could remake Bionicle G1 and rerelease the old bionicle sets with the stronger joint connects that hero factory has. And if Hero Factory could be brought back, pray it won't get rebooted.

    • @ngyt1977

I was 11 when we lost Bionicle, I really wish that they treated better when they returned.
The thing I loved the most about Bionicle was their aesthetic design and their story that inspired me instead of making me feel embarrassed (like hero factory did). What I loved most about hero factory was that I could rebuild them as many times as I wanted without them breaking.
Unfortunately the Hero Factory parts were clearly not designed with the bionicle aesthetic in mind, not saying they needed to go back to the old system, but the smooth Hero Factory pads looked out of place on Bionicle, should have made some redesigned pads instead of those stupid skeleton pieces.

Oh man, hero factory brings me so much nostalgia! I love hero factory with all my heart! I know the whole lore, the stories, the books, everything! When it came out in 2010, I was just 7 years old and I was very open to the idea of hero factory. I loved the quaza, I loved the witch doctor, I loved everything about it. Hero factory is one of my favorite themes ever! I remember back in 2013 I was reading the hero factory wikipedia basically every day, and I would go to the hero factory lego website every day! When Atlantis was discontinued, the only sets I kept buying were the hero factory ones and the technic ones! I loved the whole theme up until invasion from below. Invasion from below was basically a reboot. New voices for all the heroes, and no classic intro, and the heroes looked completely different. I still love watching the original 2010 hero factory episodes on my DVD, ordeal of fire, savage planet, breakout, and brain attack. My favorite is definitely the original ones and also I really love the ordeal of fire! Wow hero factory is probably the single greatest lego theme ever, only after lego Atlantis and lego technic

Look, I love Bionicle. I was sad to see it go as a kid. But as that same kid, growing up and seeing the Hero Factory sets on shelves kept me happy in a way. I made a point to get at least one set from each year (until Invasion from Below, because I was going through a phase) and each time, I was enamored. Each new version of the same character seemed to improve upon where I had problems with the last. “I don’t like Surge, he doesn’t have knees or elbows.” Here’s 2.0! “I don’t like Stormer 3.0, I miss his old head.” Here’s Breakout! “I wish Furno would just get to be leader already.” Brain Attack!
It was simple fun, with tons of customization options for signature characters and creatures. I’m kinda sad that it didn’t work out, because looking back on Hero Factory makes me appreciate what LEGO was doing just a little bit more.

Is it weird I want constraction sets to coexist?
Like Bionicle can be the one where the deep Lore can build a strong theme and mythos with the Toa and a deep dark villain because I loved the combination of rich lore, mystery, mythological elements, heroic themes, Sci-Fi and organic technology with robotics with serrious story beats.
Hero Factory could come back as a simpler but still rich idea of a sandbox of heroes being made as mocs to fight diverse vilains and creatures, exploring many worlds and ideas with a general team of characters while adding your own superhero builds to the mix fostering a fun loving creativity while keeping things loose and not so serrious.

Looking back, i definitely do think Hero Factory got too much hate. I think it was because a lot of Bionicle fans felt betrayed by Lego when HF replaced Bionicle. Trust me, I was one of those fans. I also think the first two waves were suffering from an identity crisis, with introducing the new series and bringing in CCBS system. I will still prefer the original building system, but CCBS is more stable and easier to use. I will say though, HF had excellent villain sets, Meltdown, Nitroblast, Raw Jaw, and Witch Doctor were some of my favorites...even if they were more expensive than Bionicle’s sets.

One of the missed oppertunity was a "Villian" Factory! Yes I know they got villians but those one expensive and it would of been cool to have villians in the same price tags as the heroes! Also it would of been a cool plot story in that the villians gotten the source on how to make the heroes and started to make villians from the core!

I am coming around to Hero Factory. I used to hate it with a passion, but you're right that it's simplicity is good. I feel so conflicted about simplicity though, when it comes to the story. It is smart from a business perspective, and at the end of the day that's what matters to Lego, but I feel like there's lost potential in it.
I personally loved the complexity of Bionicle. I re-discovered it five years ago or so, and have been spending that time actually figuring out the lore, and it has been a magnificent ride. For me, that's what is the best part, is the story. I actually never built a single figure, never owned one, so I think that kinda skews my perspective.
I get that a simple story is good for people to get into something easily, but like I just stated, if someone is interested enough, they'll do the hard work. But I also get that that's just one demographic of people, some people are just looking for a quick adventure.
All this to say, I'm glad that both exist, and that they're different, so that more people can be satisfied. And that I am definitely in the complexity camp lol.

i dont know if anyone else noticed, but there is a large aesthetic overlap between the animation of The Legend Reborn and the first 3 waves of Hero Factory episodes, some aspects like the glatorian heads are just direct carryovers, but the spinning technic greeblies and general grittyness of the characters are very similar

    • @DuckBricks
      @DuckBricks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I personally don't get how new limb molds in g1 were a bad thing,it added more variety, sure ccbs had alot of armor variety too,but made it harder to make more dynammic looking figures, tho this was an issue with g1 aswell,I've seen alot of moccists work around this by mixing the old and new system or using technic some how to give the limbs an arch, sorry if I derail from my original issue with this "pro",but I think new molds work better when it comes to especificc character designs, and I could understand the argument of it giving way for recolors and opening up mor eposibilities for moccing, but more times than not the same limb pieces feel a bit more retricted in being customizable.

  • @LarnuuWorks

Great vid The only thing I really disagree with is the ccbs portion because in theory the system is a great idea but in practice, re-skinning the same skeleton gives the feeling of buying the same figure over and over again for the consumer; and visual design wise the figures tend to get kinda clunky looking. Also it did rely on technic for bigger builds like witch doctor.
When it comes to pleasing audiences while not breaking the band; I feel audiences prefer having a wave of clone sets with mostly new elements, like the toa metru, to remixing pre-existing with minimal additions, like the mahri. The Bohrok were loved but Bohrok kal were panned. Most ccbs is in Marhi territory
(with invasion from below being an exception).
Both build styles have to hit a balance of new part introduction and good reincorporation of old ones; Bionicle had a harder time with the former while HF had it with the latter and then former.

Well, Hero Factory is very good theme because it is another action figure theme to have an actual and good story other than Bionicle. It may be second rate, but it has a lot of charm, like a series of TV serials and that online game called Breakout. It’s very similar to Bionicle, and I always believe that it shares the same universe as Bionicle G1 because of that. When people vote in Lego Ideas for Bionicle and if Bionicle wins and does well with LI, I dearly hope they would acknowledge HF.

My first ever set was the Nitroblast, and even with some pieces lost, I still have him until this day. Then the 2014 rolled in and along with it the absolute blast of a wave: The breakout. Got almost all of them, not all though, which back in the time made me pretty sad. Much worse was though that my younger brother slowly but surely lost or broke most of the pieces and thats making me even more sad. Anyway, I think overall it is far better than the Bionicle, since its modern (Bionicle is enciant), and just feels more bad-ass to me. Its also sad truth it is heavily underrated :( .Anyway great video! ;)
