Pruett: New policy should have 'a positive impact on women in motorsports as a whole' by Phil Burgess: www.nhra.com/n...
After the conclusion of the 2023 NHRA Season, 3rd place top fuel points finisher Leah Pruett announced at the PRI Show in Indianapolis, Indiana that she would be stepping away from her driving role of her Tony Stewart Racing Top Fuel Dragster to try and become a mother. At the time she openly advocated for a new driver substitution policy specifically to help aid female drivers who have or had made the same choice she did. After PRI, she spearheaded a coalition of female drivers including 6x Pro Stock World Champion Erica Enders, Pro Stock bike racer Angie Smith, FIA Top Fuel World Champion Ida Zetterström, 2023 NHRA Top Alcohol World Champion Julie Natass, and current Top Fuel pilot Jasmine Salinas to approach the NHRA to address the issue female racers face after consulting with NHRA Chief Medical Officer Dr. Philip Surface, as well as other specialists such as Dr. Peter Weiss and Dr. Carolyn Alexander. The NHRA has announced a first-of-its-kind substitution clause aimed at aiding female drivers who find themselves pregnant with a child or preparing for treatment to become pregnant. In this video we'll discuss the process of how this rule came to be and what exactly it could mean in the future.
