These parents don't care. The kids run them. I see plenty of them walking the streets during school hrs daily. I've run into them in stores, and I've actually seen adults arguing with them about why they weren't in school. Hold their parents accountable.

Dang, I couldn't skip school. Back in the 70s there were plenty of truant officers. You could not be walking around during school hours. Nor could you miss too many days out of school, the truant officers would be at your door. Letters from school to parents, or phone calls in the evening.

Kids need structure and education. They also need both parents involved. Truancy is a good indicator of what is and isn't going on in the home. Memphis has got to do better. Do you reading this trust these kids to be responsible adults at the rate things are going now? Or are you worried about how much worse things are going to get when they are "adults" after seeing so many out of control so young?

There have always been children sneaking out of the house.
All the money has been taken away from schools and social programs and given to the police funds.
The curriculum needs to be revised. You need more truancy officers. Social workers and psychologist are needed in schools.

Even if it's not part of the cause, it's still going to be a symptom. You can't be out all night thugging and creeping, without sleeping at some point.

The parents don't care as well. The parents promote this crap. The parents do need to be held accountable. But here's the prob the parents get held accountable and while they sit in jail who's really going to be with the child......
