      Yo. Just finished the second episode.. trying not to binge it. I love how they rehumanized the Davidians, as the EP said, and how they based it off of both Thibodeau’s and Noesner’s books, so you really get a good look from both sides.
      Most other comments seem to be from after the original airing, so I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who’s just now getting sucked in by this show hahah

    Waco shows how a big government can absolutely destroy a society that functions against the standard ideal.
    What impressed me is the way Paramount was able to tell both sides of the story with respect to the motivations of each player. This was not a black and white event. They even included Ruby Ridge.
    Taylor Kitsch was phenomenal; what a challenging character to play. I knew how it was going to end but it still put tears in my eyes.

      Most of this show was complete BS that portrayed a pedophile cult leader as "misunderstood". Especially the end, there was clear evidence as outlined in the DOJ report indicating the Davidians set those fires, including recordings of them talking about spreading and lighting two canisters of gas. The FBI and ATF certainly fucked up but this show portrayed them as monsters.

      They're not "telling both sides," the movie is based on a book written by a cult member. It was his side only. And the negotiator is a sympathetic character because David kind of got along with him, so the cult members saw him as sort of an ok guy.

    I think one of the reasons if feels like they humanized more of the davidians than the ATF is because ATF soldiers all weared masks balaclava, to the enemy (davidians) they had no face, no identity in them just soldiers, versus a griup of church members, everyday people, with kids and elderly amongst them, thats what makes its so powerful, the ATF a greater force versus the davidians smallers force, and in the end evil prevails

    I just binge watched the whole show. Taylor Kitsch was amazing. I'm also a BC boy from just up the road from where he's from and he's lived a tough life with many similarities to mine. He did great. I remember this Waco thing as a kid as like the first news event on tv before Tupac got shot and 9/11. I think what the government did there is really messed up but if you watch the end of the last episode they talk about how many times the authorities used tear gas and how it ended in fire and deaths. It's sad that a government agency who should be protecting life is so willing to take it and how they twist facts and lie to make people be on their side. That's a failure to everyone and disgusting and makes me question so many things our governments do. A lot of it is malicious and that's sad.

    Two questions:
    1) Why ATF had to bring in gun-totting SWAT assault team in the first place? Are they such cowards that they need big machine gun all the time just to feel safe?
    2) Why do this church in the middle of the dessert need to have so many guns? Are they fending off waves of invisible zombies that we do not know off?
    In the end, I think the problem lies with the toxic gun culture in US, everyone believes that guns is the solution, that's so dumb. In fact, if ATF would've just sent some agents to knock on their door and talk, the tragedy could have been avoided.

    • @MoonChildMedia
      @MoonChildMedia 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The answer to your first question: Because our government and police are corrupt power hungry assholes who think everyone must submit to their commands....no matter how ridiculous those demands are.
      Second question: They sold those guns at gun shows....there were many mouths to feed in that compound....selling guns was one of the chief ways they supported themselves.

    • @liquidsnakeckw
      @liquidsnakeckw 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Woah, I didn't know that the Branch Davidian are gun sellers. That is certainly something not mentioned in the series. On the other hand, I think the demilitarization of law enforcement agency is something all American should consider.

But when you look at it that way you realize they had no intentions to use those and only use them then. Left to their own devices i believe they would of just never been heard of. But still lil kids were being molested. Idk man its fucked on both sides

      They had guns because they would often buy them or buy parts of them to assemble, then sell them at gun shows or to people who just wanted a gun. In America and especially in Texas owning any amount of firearms is completely legal, the only reason the ATF raided them was because of a suspicion that they were modifying some guns to be fully automatic, which is illegal unless they had paid a 25$ fee. Also several dummy grenades were found in some mail sent to them, but gun shows often sell those as knick-knacks or paperweights.

    I wonder why Koresh and his 2nd in command were at a friend's house (my friend) seeking to find ways to "specialize" their weapons long before the showdown occurred? Yes, I'm talking about suppressors and full auto modifications. My friend has quite a reputation in certain circles (good and not so good) as one of the most innovative and excellent at what he used to do as a business. Why would Koresh want those types of weapon upgrades? Wasn't it enough to have a large cache of weapons for "protection"? Did he deem a large scale showdown inevitable as far back as the very early 90's when he approached my friend? Did he/they want to inflict as many casualties as possible with fully automatic and/or suppressed weapons? I get the interpretation of an eye for an eye and persecution and all those arguments, but isn't the overall and overriding tenet of the Christian faith love, forgiveness, and understanding? I just don't get it. Anyway, although he could have been a multi-millionaire several times over from selling to people he should not have, my friend turned Koresh down flat, as he did with every private citizen who tried to lure him into creating or modifying specialized weapons for them, which is why my friend is still in good standing to this day with the ATF, Texas Law Enforcement, and certain military Special Forces (yes - his stuff was/is THAT good). And I quote "There are too many crazy people out there. I never sold to the general public." End quote. His son, who was home at the time of the surprise visit, told me that he got a very uneasy feeling from the way Koresh was answering their initial questions (evasively), and they quickly ended up telling them to get out and to not return (with far less kind phrasing). I wonder if Mr. Thibodeau knew about that little visit. Maybe Mr. Thibodeau was with them in the car and would like to comment? Koresh knew the MINUTE he was apprehended he was looking at a whole lotta charges of sleeping with a whole lotta underage girls, plain and simple. You can paint it however you want it - he was just another sad loser who was able to influence a small group of people and they paid the price for it in pain, as is always the case with these groups. Four sides to every story! Just sayin...

    The problem with it was that it tried to show the uncommon and unpopular perspective which was obviously the Branch Dividians but it went to far in that direction and portrayed the story as black and white with the Branch Dividians in the absolute right while the giver meant was in the absolute wrong when they should’ve showed the faults of both sides of the story

    • @tau-5794
      @tau-5794 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Except they definitely showed when each of the groups was doing right or wrong. David was clearly causing a lot of problems because he could only have things done his way, and the FBI also caused problems because they could only have things done their way. David said anybody had the right to leave at any time, but would then guilt them if they actually tried to do so. And the tactical director was certainly heavy handed most of the show but in the last episode when he's trying to get people out of the bunker and they're dying you can see his humanity. So the show seems to portray events and people mostly fairly.
