If they knew what the song says people will not receive our Lord in the hand but kneeling and in the tongue. Gorgeous song for our Lord Jesus Christ. Blessings!

I would have liked to hear it a cappella. Great choir! What a beautiful piece for Communion.

We sang this in eighth grade choir at St. James school in Orlando in 1959.

Same here. It was sung at the funeral of Pope Pius XIII at that time.

    O sacrum convivium!
    in quo Christus sumitur:
    recolitur memoria passionis eius:
    mens impletur gratia:
et futurae gloriae nobis pignus datur.
    Alleluia.
    Ô banquet sacré
où l'on reçoit le Christ !
On célèbre le mémorial de sa passion,
    l'âme est remplie de grâce
et, de la gloire future, le gage nous est donné.
    Alleluia
    O sacred banquet!
    in which Christ is received,
the memory of His Passion is renewed,
the mind is filled with grace,
and a pledge of future glory to us is given.
    Alleluia.
(Composer: Roberto Remondi, 1851-1928. Text: St. Thomas Aquinas, 1225-1274)

I played this MANY times when I was organist in parishes here and there - that was before I was thrown out so s 14 year old girl and a keyboard could play for free. 6 years later, that parish has collapsed! What goes around...

It is very sad what has been done to many Catholic organists. Like being told 5 minutes before a Mass that you and the choir of 20 adults and 40 children were no longer needed....and lo, and behold a guitar band emerges from the sacristy and begins playing. People ran out of that church crying...and never returned. Yes, that church is closed too. Now, 40 years later they are trying to restore what is lost....it will never happen...too many souls have been lost because of egos and arrogance.

Don Antonio I agree - what was lost and trashed, will not come back in life time.

      Don Antonio
I agree for the most part, though church organists could sometimes be difficult. When my father died, my family asked our priest if I could play the organ at his funeral Mass. I do know how to play, and I play well. In order to make this happen, we had to pay the regular organist (who also sang when she played, loudly and off key) NOT to play and sing. This was insulting. Those wanting wedding music to be provided by someone other than her had to do the same thing. Music in church is PRAYER and praise to God, not the provenance and monopoly of a tyranny of one.

Dear Hans, in one parish where I served as a Rector the organist's salary included the weddings and funerals. That was in the contract. The fees for weddings and funerals included the organist's fee. So if someone else wished to play they could...but the organist still had to be there as we had several situations when the family was going to provide an organist and the person did not show up or declined to play at the last minute. These policies are many times created after bad experiences. One time the person who the family asked to play had no clue about the instrument or playing hymns and it was a disaster. That was the last time I allowed anyone other than the usual church organist to play. So, as you can see, there are two sides to every situation. I certainly would have invited you to play a piece for communion as your offering to God in memory of your loved one. But not knowing the usual mass music etc. is a disservice to the priest, singers, and congregation, and is a recipe for a disaster.

Gorgeous piece but WHAT is the sacrilege going in in background? People receiving the Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord in their hand. For shame. Two worlds colliding, sacred music from the original Latin Mass and the Novus Ordo, touchy- feely , anything goes cult.
