Just remembered I still had this video up. Way late noticing the comments. However, after replacing tensioners, all chains, and guides, nothing changed. Still knocking. Havent messed with it in forever due time and money. Shes still sitting there waiting for me. However those tensioners were very bad after removal and inspection. Chains had significant "stretching". It definitly was a problem however not the problem I am initially having.
When you change the tensioners did it make a difference I have change the complete timing change set on my Durango 3 times and I still have the chain slap On my passenger side
Take the metal backing plate off the passenger tensioner. I fought this very problem also. Drivers side gets the metal plate that comes with new tensioners and passenger side does not.
Thanks for the post Jay. Mines noisy as hell and was wondering what I might see taking it apart. Did you do lifters at the same time or only chains/tensioner kit?
There's going to be significant chain slack because the tensioner pads and guide rails may be worn, and because the engine is not running, there is zero oil pressure so the tensioners pistons are not extending.
@@FACEBOOKS-WBDS The chain must be under tensioner pad contact at all times and continues after the engine is producing pressure. Has anyone put an oil pressure gage on those engines at idle and at ~2000 RPM?
Once the tensioners are fully extended, at any point in time, they lock in place and cannot be released even by oil pressure if I remember correctly. Therefore once theyre fully extended they cannot adjust pressure on their own to the guides any further, which means the chains are "stretched" and bad I believe. When I replaced everything, everything was tight, fit like it should. No noise. Rotated perfectly without clicking from a tight spot on the chains etc. However engine still knocking so thinking it's an internal issue. Rod bearing or something. Havent investigated further since replacing all that.
old post but dont chain tighten up with load?

Update please?
Any more progress?
Did you change/check your lifters out? You might have the usual lifter tap from 4.7s
Yes I did change the "lifters" too. Had a few of them locked or stuck. Couldnt compress them. Still no change
they are not supposed to compress
not after having been used at least
They are supposed to be solid, they are actually lash adjusters (keep the tension)
chains had excessive slack, tensioners all the way extended, replaced with new timing set.

Cool... Thank you..... I bet im about to find the same thing.... I believe thats my issue too
I want to hear the noise. I am having issues also
Sorry about the camera angle changes.

the tentioners max out against a stop even with the motor off
I put new tensioners in mine and same problem. Loud tapping but runs strong.

@@jaygutowsky3925 I am not questioning you. I am visualizing what you said. I am going to have a donut visit to my local
