I flew this exact jet. Great super powerful reliable jet. Will climb 5000 feet a minute fully loaded. Almost has too much power. It will be 250 kts by end of runway if you let it. Thanks for great footage.
It is a classic I had many opportunities to fly in it in the 70´s! In Aerolineas Ejecutivas based in Mexico City. I keep my soul in that time when coming from a cessna 182/206/210 Baron, King Air, Turbo Commander it was a Pleasure and a luxury to be in the hottest aircraft made in America by Bill Lear! MegaHowtoMan TYVM to RyanBomar for sharing this piece of technology! And Flight Safety Foundation for help to make good pilots! Warning! this may cause Blue Air in our souls!
I saw this flight from my house when you guys did the loop around the Rose Bowl a couple months ago, no kidding! I had never seen a Lear Jet pass so low and slow over Pasadena.
Ehh, I dunno, I SUPPOSE this was a pretty cool experience. If you're someone who's interested in sleek, beautiful, fast Lear Jets and getting a guided tour by the legendary Claya Lacy onboard one of those fast, beautiful, sleek Lear Jets. And I would DEFINITELY be interested...in both!! Very cool, thanks for sharing your flight with us my friend, Semper Fidelis .
Ryan, thank you for filming this one of a kind tour! Nice footage and good camera usage. And love that little pod on the end if the wing! Looks awesome! Gotta love Learjets!
Thanks for the nice ride Ryan, it was like I was in the Lear with you guys, and you really presented it well. Everything was perfect. Flying with aviation legend Clay Lacy is such an incredible experience and memory that you and your brother will never forget. I had the pleasure of flying with Mr. Lacy four times in his beautifully restored Douglas DC-3C (C-47) United Airlines Mainliner O'Connor N814CL (c/n 34370) manufactured in 1945.
Thank you so much, Jeff! I'm surprised that I was even able to figure out where the record button was, due to being in a turbojet Lear....piloted by Clay Lacy :) That's been my life dream, as long as I can remember. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the video.
Nice trip guys seems like a friendly get together ! I always liked the learjet 25 it's fast and it out performs the newer models!! Well U people have a nice life!! C U in heaven!! (Maybe)
Thanks Ryan, great photography and you have a good eye for picking out landmarks. You were pretty low when heading west around Thousand Oaks - very impressive view; I enjoyed it very much!
Fantastic flight, now this is really something I would enjoy a ton, when you kept on focusing in on that I think it was one of the tanks on the end of the jet's wing, it made it really look like a rocket following beside the jet...LOL......
I won a contest, which allowed me to bring along a guest, so I took my brother. It was a contest based off of a story of your personal history of VNY. I wrote about going as a child, my memories of cool visitors over the years and all. The ride was sponsored by Van Nuys Airport, Clay Lacy & the Daily News. Luckily, they chose me, which was a dream.
This is by far the most 'celebration of man-made' video I have seen this week. Also very apparent to me is the vast separation between the sky and the beauty in the sky and of things that play in the sky vs the ground and it's angular, clustered limitations - turning even beautiful natural features into boxy clusters that seem dead and void and so limiting. This is why I will always feel at home in the sky and out of place on the ground.
it is really to bad that the wright bros did not film this when they were learning to fly.would be neat to see the growth of the city from then until now.i agree that is one nice fuel cell.
I think that is the same plane David Copperfield made disappear. The tail number matches and a quick lookup reveals it registered to DAVID COPPERFIELD PROJECT MAGIC FUND. It just adds to what makes this specific plane unique. and I found this quote mentioned in an interview with Copperfield “There was a magic effect that was done on a plane, that I didn’t do, but if was done for me. A guy named Clay Lacy, he’s a big private airplane aficionado. Years ago, on one of my episodes, I made an airplane disappear. It was Clay Lacy’s airplane, and it was at Van Nuys airport. And as part of the show, it starts with my flying in his Learjet, and the Learjet had my face on the tail temporarily - he was a good friend of John Lear, he was a real expert pilot. Well, he took me up in the plane to get some air-to-air footage, meaning from one plane shooting the other plane, so you can see me in the cockpit. He says, ‘You’re a magician, so I’ll show you some magic.’ And he’s flying the plane, I’m sitting in the co-pilot’s seat. He pours a glass of champagne as he’s flying the plane, and he puts the full glass of champagne on the dashboard of the Learjet, and says, ‘Watch this.’ “He takes the plane and he turns it upside down, and the champagne glass doesn’t spill, because as he’s turning the plane upside down, he’s descending at the same time, so the plane is dropping upside down, so the glass stays where it is and the champagne stays in the glass. Then he makes the plane right-side, and he takes the champagne and he has me drink it. It was an amazing thing that apparently he does for his friends, but I got to see a piece of magic midair, and that was pretty cool.”"
Very nice video! Who was on the flight with you? It looks like very much an Executive airport (I've never been to Van Nuys, sorry). I spotted a 727 VIP of some sort and a BBJ, I think. The only thing about the Lear's is you can't stand up in them, I understand that you sit and relax for the flight, but, getting in and out. I guess for long flights there's some sort of lavatory? Thanks!
Clay is probably as 'low as you can legally be' over a populated area. 1000' i believe... you can see he's no more than maybe 1500-1800 over L.A. Skyline. nice 'close up' view of downtown there Clay. now ....climb! ha ha! Living Legend...
That's the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. If you look closely, near the top of the glass structure, you can actually see the nose of the former Air Force One VC-137C on display there. On a side note, I was actually there yesterday, recording some footage that will go live on Saturday. BTW, I have key landmarks and times listed in the description.
Yeah, give the aircraft some respect! It's a small Learjet, can't be that hard to configure the interior. I wonder if they were going to retire that variant or something and didn't bother.

Wow! Superb low altitude scenic tour :-) ... Unique!

Another amazing video brought to you by Ryan Bomar. Good job Ryan, keep up the great work!
Thanks Ryan, great photography and you have a good eye for picking out landmarks. You were pretty low when heading west around Thousand Oaks - very impressive view; I enjoyed it very much!
At 16:34 you can hear the GPWS. Clay must've had the Lear in quite a descent.
Fantastic flight, now this is really something I would enjoy a ton, when you kept on focusing in on that I think it was one of the tanks on the end of the jet's wing, it made it really look like a rocket following beside the jet...LOL......
Ryan you can't leave us hanging. We need more info like how do you score a sight seeing flight like this with THE Clay Lacy!!!????

My Dad painted Clay's P51 in the old days. Turk Aircraft Painting.
Thanks for the comment! I love the sound and the interior as well, it's very 1970's.
One word...Incredible!
Great ride, buddy! Thanks for sharing :-)
The GPWS got a workout on this trip!
Wow, what a comment! You blew me away there, you truly rock!
Wow I'm envious, what a ride!

WOW, amazing!!!
Thanks for inviting me on seating in a flight.
LOVE THIS!!!!
Fantastic ride.... Thanks
It was much quieter inside than the Learjet 24 that I flew on to LAS, which is also on my channel. Planes can never be loud enough for me :)
Indeed, Ryan Bomar, U did an excellent job!
You rock! I'm glad you dug the footage!

You rock, man! How's the life at WN treating you?

RyanBomar TY you have a great holiday too! i didn't say anything, but cool video i really enjoyed it!! ;)
This is awesome! You're lucky.
Great video. Thanks for sharing the experience. Just out of curiosity, how much does a typical sight-seeing flight of this duration in a LearJet cost?
Very nice video! Who was on the flight with you? It looks like very much an Executive airport (I've never been to Van Nuys, sorry). I spotted a 727 VIP of some sort and a BBJ, I think. Clay Lacy is the oldest Charter company on the west coast of US. 45 plus years at Van Nuys. They operate 30 or 40 private jets.
Awesomely ride.
Hi ryan, would you have any photos from this trip?
now i know my B-day present to myself
Cont'd. On a Corporate Jet. I grew up around airplanes in South A

Truly appreciated! I'll try :)
Is that a Tomcat navy intercepter on the front lawn?
I had no idea the 25 was that noisy compared to the 35 & 31.
Was it loud?
Good stuff
Ill do the G2...
any idea what your airspeed was? just curious. had to be under 250 knots because you were under 10,000 feet
A lot of it had to be under 200 knots when they were under LAX Class Bravo airspace.
Who's house is that at 14:05?
I wished that I was along. I have never flown
nice, this is a good video for game developers...

kewl
America, even worked on B52D's during Viet Nam war.
man, that's one ugly interior
Yes it is. And it would not take much to make it look really sharp. Sad.
Yeah, give the aircraft some respect! It's a small Learjet, can't be that hard to configure the interior. I wonder if they were going to retire that variant or something and didn't bother.
he have a flight center at Boeing field I think
A lear 25 kinda like a rocket.. ugh..
