Yes, I'll Be Back had something indefinable about it - you could see even more possibilities opening up in their music, even though it's a fairly simple song. Something of the Flamenco about it perhaps, accenting the lamenting & introspective aspects of the song. Yet another fantastic Beatles track. (Just to add I've always thought There's A Place was similar in that it opened up new directions for them).
@@MrUnderdog-vn3zf I did the same. Lennon often came up with a lot of really tasty chord changes. All those months and long nights gigging in Hamburg doing loungy numbers probably gave him that skill and imagination for it.
John and Paul used to get together at one of their houses and write songs, singing and playing guitar across from each other, eyeball to eyeball as they've said about it. It usually took an hour or two, but they aleays came up with a song that they both liked. Then they would bring the song into the studio, play it for George and Ringo, and those two would usually come up with great guitar and drum parts. And then their producer, George Martin, would add his input. The end result is what we all know and love to listen to. The Beatles. The GOAT.
It is such a joy for me, at age 68, to see young people as yourself finding and enjoying the music of The Beatles. I grew up with them and had to wait weeks or months for each new song and album to come out. We also had time to immerse ourselves in each new song, to hear them a hundred times before the next one came along. Their music was woven into who we were and who we became. Again I will suggest staying with the earlier music so you can appreciate their amazing growth in such a short time. Carry On!!
Yes indeed. There was a special talent gift that the Beatles were blessed with, for making songs & music that could be widely appreciated by people from all over the world. Believe it or not, when the Beatles first started, there were different parties of observers who at separate times said that the early Beatles were not a good band! However, because they wanted to be a good band, and because they worked long and hard at it, they developed into a SUPERB band!
I think two good examples here of how things were going for recorded sound at EMI. The harder 'It Won't Be Long' recorded on 2-track and the more spacious and acoustic blended 'I'll Be Back' recorded on 4-track the following year. Studio techniques were advancing and groups like The Beatles would make the best of what was available and would demonstrate that a lot more was possible as the 1960's continued. Thanks for sharing.
Beatles had so many pop/rock innovations-here is John singing lower harmony beneath Paul’s higher lead. That was different. And then there’s the Big innovation of singer songwriters harmonizing on their own songs, performing as a BAND. In 1962-63 all pop music was solo singers with studio musicians (or faceless backup bands) singing songs written by someone else!
The one thing I have always loved about the Beatles is their music is so easy to listen to and enjoy and for me I love to sing along and the song I'll be back I have not heard that song for a few years (not kidding) and I just play it back one time and the words come back so easy to me its like have your 4 best friends come back to you after being away for a while. I did that after John Lennon was killed I was so angry hurt upset over his death I could not listen to his music or the Beatles for over 2 years. I had some close friends that got into the Beatles and Lennon like you AR and they had videos and lost tracks I never heard before and the love of their music came back to me like a flood. And I will always love their music the Beatles the solo work all of it
Yeah there you got to realize they've been plan for 8 hours a day when they were in the Hamburg Germany play these clubs and they would just play 8 hours a day every day to straight on through so they really got a lot of practice and they knew how to interact with the audience they learned all that stuff you know it's funny I was in kindergarten on that song came out and now I'm 63 years old and the Beatles are still one of the greatest bands ever
Hahahahahahaha😄😁😄😁😄😁😄😁😄😁me too!! It's amazing. Remember they loved what they did. They were young and drew inspiration from those that came before, and mixed it with their own ideas. And out popped a Beatles melody.
There's an earlier version of It Won't Be Long on a bootleg somewhere where John sings "Yeah" twice, then Paul sings "Yeah" once, then John again, or some other sort of odd pattern. They kept messing up. Their producer, George Martin, said "Why don't you just sing "Yeah" once, then Paul once, then... just alternate. There was a sort of silent "huh". They tried it that way and nailed it. It never occurred to them to do it the obvious way.

Yeah the Beatles are very addictive and I been listening to them serious for over 45 years. Part of their magic is the song writing of Lennon and McCartney I think they wrote over 100 songs before LOVE ME DO was recorded. With the exception of the Beach Boys, the Four seasons and a few Motown groups ca 1963-64, on "It Won't Be Long" at the ending chord, you did not hear many groups using a Major ninth Chord vocally. Or other chords such as the Major 6th chord on the ending of She Loves You. It was considered old school but the Beatles really knew what the hell they were doing, a lot more than the parents of the teenage fans at the time were willing to admit. George Harrison was the one who added the 6th chord on vocally She Loves You [recorded in 1963], and the producer George Martin, who was older by around 15 years, and musically well educated, said something like "Hey that's an old fashioned chord, are you sure you wanna do that?" All four members said yes. Each group member always had something unique to contribute. And they didn't read music, but in practice they knew their music theory, by ear, always learning something new, and what would work by experience. Incredible, or we would not be listening to their music today.
