Ah, the memories of that young boy who sat patiently watching the game install, swapping out the install/cinematic/play disc. The countless hours carelessly spent staring into that glass portal of fantasy. The feeling of slaying blood raven for the tenth, twentieth, thirtieth time... It always brought me back to the first. My memory slips away, along with the childhood memories that go with this song. nostalgia, that doesn’t begin to describe it. I played the life out of every character and all their possible skills. I put my heart into this game as a kid, however: the part that really kills me is that I can’t remember much anymore. All the fun times with my unknown friends, like you said, do they remember those times we shared as we cut down Ba’aL, threw Diablo in the dirt and absolutely destroyed Andariel. I reminisce about the past and the feelings I felt while playing this game had to have been cosmic. I’m buying the game in a week. I can’t wait to start up a Druid or a Assassin, maybe a Necromancer. No wait I’ll be a paladin!
Getting to Tristram, as a child, not having played Diablo 1 but knowing Tristram was a place of significance in the first game. Diablo genuinely has one of my favorite settings in fantasy. One of the only video games where I've read the lore books and supplemental material, because it's such a mysterious, hopeless, and cruel take on the early medieval fantasy setting. There's no elves or orcs or typical fantasy trappings of even low fantasy settings. There's just heaven, hell, and mankind stuck in the middle fighting to survive.
This game. This eerie, beautiful music. I'm in my 30s now. But the opening notes to Tristram...they bring me back, instantly, to being home on a cold, fall weekend. Raining outside, and gloomy. But, a nostalgic feeling that I love so much. Some of my favorite, warm-feeling memories. There are only a handful of songs/music, and other such nostalgia inducing catalysts. Man I can still feel the fear and uncertainty when walking into Tristram and further into the depths of the dungeons. This music just brings me back. All the way to my childhood. When games were truely epic and brought about emotions that will stay with you for a lifetime.
This music brings back so many memories. There you are, standing in town, a moment of respite from the demon hordes onslaught. Although safe in the encampment, the ominous music reminds you that you are not safe with danger still lurking around every corner, and you must soon venture out again. One of the most iconic game music I have the pleasure to come across.

I used to get sad when leveling and following a group doing tristram runs, we would always be on to the next run before I could really enjoy the music. Nostalgia indeed.
Sangrex2 Yeah xD. He was a npc in the first diablo. He was supposed to be a item smuggler. And he ask for 50 gold pieces just for taking a look to his inventory.
For me the ultimative game, there will never be a better one, or a better time for gaming... mid 90s to mid 00s was so awesome... I want back to these times so bad...
I'm not nostalgic towards this song for the same reasons as many of you. I randomly found this song on Grooveshark a while back and put it on my persoanal playlist there. It was great. I put a bunch more Diablo songs on that playlist. And then Grooveshark died. And just now have I stumbled on this song again because I have a friend named Tristan and I thought of it. I would never have come back to this song because the platform I listened to it on is gone, but now I remember this haunting music, and I'm glad I do.
I played the first part of the game when I was 12 years old. I played Diablo 2 when I was 17 years old. I remember my intense sadness when I came to the destroyed Tristram and saw the bodies of npcs from the first part :(
This is such a well done piece of art. Mysterious, foreboding, a real sense of isolation and ruin, and the music really makes it come to life. This single picture, more than anything else, including the time I spent playing the first few bits of Diablo 3, makes me want to look into the older games.
I believe this song to be one of the best tracks that could coincide with the game itself. Take for instance the intro... its eery welcoming strums of the guitar can resemble some unsettled peace and trouble, it's dawn and the sun is setting, when a traveler comes along, everyone who was there looks on in wonder. Who is this person? The air about them isn't natural. But at the same time, the town is going through tragedy after tragedy. So their air is already troubled and forever uncertain until the source of their suffering is stopped for good. Their thoughts return to the wanderer. They hope the adventurer doesn't stay long, they hope whatever happens, happens soon so they're not left in suspense and worry. So someone finally ventures forth and seeks to learn the travelers business, while at the same time... warning them of what has been the buzz lately. The wanderer says he or she could fix whatever is happening, when all of the sudden the trouble comes following the adventurer into town. Everyone panics and runs away to hide behind something in hopes of avoiding the gaze of their possible destructor, but the adventurer becomes the sole focus of the trouble as they stand against it. Ready for a head on battle, the wanderer casts a cold glare with zero emotion showing, only the obvious intention of... it's time to dance. The song at this point picks up in its tempo, increases its foreboding and sinister melody. Then it breaks off to the sound of soft whispers, leaving the listeners to find what happens later on by delving into the story. which, in itself is what happens in the game. I love this song, even after all these years, I come back to it, and it gives me this vibe about hell and life and how they intertwine more than we would like to think. Pure beauty. The rise, the climax, the fallout, and the ever continuously moving universe.
I always imagined 0:44 in my mind as when a newcomer rushes into the blazing town, paralleled by you stepping through the portal on your way to save Cain.
I come back to this song at least once or twice a year and never fails to brings tears to my eyes. 2003 was the golden year I started... Can't believe it's been 16 years already. Just thinking about the cow runs with the homies... I don't think there will be better memories in my life than those times. Long live D2

I used to get sad when leveling and following a group doing tristram runs, we would always be on to the next run before I could really enjoy the music.
Nostalgia indeed.
Having to kill poor Griswold from the first game. ;__;
i cri everytim
RavielUriaHamon at least wirt gives you back all the money he scamed from you ahahahaha xD
RavielUriaHamon Yeah :,,,( Was so sad, because he assisted me so much in the first game.
Araiguma Racoon lol thats why the corpse popped with all that cash? i never played d1 xD xD
Sangrex2 Yeah xD. He was a npc in the first diablo. He was supposed to be a item smuggler. And he ask for 50 gold pieces just for taking a look to his inventory.
This song damn near makes me tear up, I miss these days
God every time I hear this music I get instant nostalgia. Such a great game.
absolutely
For me the ultimative game, there will never be a better one, or a better time for gaming... mid 90s to mid 00s was so awesome... I want back to these times so bad...
Matt Uelmen the composer, credits to him ofc!!! A timeless song.
Who else would rather dream of Diablo II expansion than Diablo IV?
still waiting ? at least D2 is ressurected :D
@@rivenoak who would’ve thought that dreams come true
The dream is true.....they remastered it :)
this song gives me chills through the spine every single time. Eargasms.
*feels feels feels*
I played the first part of the game when I was 12 years old. I played Diablo 2 when I was 17 years old. I remember my intense sadness when I came to the destroyed Tristram and saw the bodies of npcs from the first part :(
Diablo 2 is coming back :)
Damon Carnaggio Man that was deep, but true. Thanks for sharing.
I'm currently DMing a Ravenloft campaign and this music fits perfectly for when they entered Barovia.
I love the brilliance and composition in this track. Keeps me on the cusp of it all, great job!
This is the best rpg game I have ever played and I love this game so much ! I just started the game again 1 week ago after so many years I have played it and I love it like in the first day !! I finished Diablo 3 but it doesen't compare with 2 ! And what I love about Diablo 2 are the EPIC soundtracks of the game . I wish so much that a HD remake of this game will be made some day ! This time is the fift time I will finish the game ! I can't get bored of this game :)
Same in me :) I have just created a hardcore smiter single player for few weeks and now at level 60. This game give me so much happy every time I replay it since 10 years ago.
You haven't played many rpg games then
Solaxe Solaxowski Calm down son, it's only an opinion, no need to get all antsy about it.
Indeed a masterpiece of a game, but you guys know this theme was originally introduced in the first Diablo right?
L3ndzo83
ARPG to be exact.
"Hello, my friend. Stay awhile and listen."
I increased my max speed i run for 30 min on the treadmill more than once with that song as the final one on my playlist, when it burns like hell,i feel like im battling my inner demon final boss lol.A masterpiece.
LOL, it's more of a dreary song, more about turmoil than outright battle. But ye, can still be helpful.
What a wonderful time i had with this fucking masterpiece of game and soundtrack, pure bliss.
step 1: light up a joint
step 2: realize the entire diablo 1 and 2 sountrack is a variation of the tristram theme
Imagine actually composing this and then performing it. Best piece of music in a game ever. Will never be topped. 10/10.
I have to play it, NOW! Wow so much good memories...
Chyba każdy kto grał w Diablo "zostawał na chwilę i słuchał" ♥️ po prostu kocham tę grę. Po tylu latach nadal znam ją na pamięć 😊
1:39 sounddesign masterclass
Probably one of the most memorable music of any video game.
Oh, the memories... one of the best games ever.
6:08 Insidious style. When i watched insidious with this similar music i instantly thought about Diablo music. Real devil music.
The music is so good that she crawls under my skin, in the direction of my brain, and she says to him, "I hope you like it"
My brain responds, stay and never go away!
Everytime I hear this song these days I think of my brother that had passed away. We both love this game and have been playing it since the Diablo 1 days.
rest in peace
