I absolutely agree with what Jon Chu said about Cynthia singing the same words but gave it a new context. I definitely felt this when she sang "I'm Not That Girl", the theatre version tends to hold back a little bit on the emotion but Cynthia's version was a full on ballad. It made me realize that the song wasn't just about trying to hold back on her feelings for Fiyero but also about how she sees herself. The lines of "She who's winsome, she wins him. I wasn't born for the rose and pearl." It's just a very sad thing to think that Elphaba thinks she doesn't deserve these things because she's different, but in the context of the film you can understand that she feels that way about herself because she was made to feel that way growing up. Cynthia has put so much emotion on that piece. Hands down the most beautiful rendition of that song. The "Don't dream too far, don't lose sight of who you are." made me cry a lot too during the film because it's usually a line we tell ourselves for self-affirmation - "Don't lose sight of who you are", but in Elphaba's context it's different, it's almost a degrading feeling. Like putting herself back, not to dream too far because of who she is - an outcast.
beautifully written I agree with everything you said! how sad that it's like a love song about how she's trying to hold herself back from loving him tied to the cage of what she's been told all her life - that she is unworthy, etc. :( thank you for your comment :)
Cynthia Erivo’s rendition of “Defying Gravity “ isn’t just a performance, it’s a transcendent vocal triumph that redefines the very essence of musical storytelling ❤️ She slayed so much my head was spinning lol😷
Cynthia was such a "STAR" before this movie, so proud of her and her journey. If you really want to hear her voice, look up her performance at the Royal London Hall, she is absolutely FANTASTIC, star power at it's best!!!
It wouldn't have been the same without Cynthia and Ariana, and I love how they've come together and showed what woman power and sister hood and just being different or not accepted is, if you don't like the movie and you have negative feedback, you really need to ask yourself why that is
My favorite scene in Wicked, Part 1, is the OzDust scene because it feels very real. I can sense those real and painful emotions through the screen and they draw you in to the richness of sadness, vulnerability, a show of strength in the midst of grief and coming through on the other side. Truly a beautiful scene.
People keep picking on her and Ariana Grande for getting emotional in the interviews. Even Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth and others who have played the roles onstage, get emotional because the story is an emotional roller coaster of female friendships. Just search for Kristin Chenoweth's last onstage performance and you can see her trying not to break down as she sings For Good. I hope they get as many Oscars as they can. IMO it's the best stage to musical movie adaptation since Chicago. Love the Wicked storyline and can't wait to see Part 2. Can feel the emotions when Cynthia Erivo's tears fall down her cheeks in Dancing Through Life and at the end in Defying Gravity scene when she realizes she will have to fly off by herself and be on her own. 💚💗💚💗💚💗
Lordy - when the post was read out about Jen and her autistic son who identified with Elphaba and feeling othered and alone. Ooof - hits you in the feels.
She's Brilliant, evolved, enlightened, and blessed with Divineness. Behold beauty, strength, creative genius, humanity far beyond the parameters of most comprehension. Bless & thank you dear precious sister for being an ambassador of Our Creator's designed love!
I think something went wrong with the color grading that they couldn’t fix but the movie is so amazing that they’re getting away with it. I saw it in 3D and some of the images need extra sensorial capabilities to be watched. The scenes in the forest at night are nearly just a black screen. They better fix it for the streaming release. I think cinematographer and director can kiss their Oscars goodbye. A pity considering how truly classic this film will become. Screenplay, costumes and of course acting say hello to Oscar.
I’m a white girl and her hair is so beautiful in the film. I’m also disabled. Seeing Nessa and knowing she’s a disabled actor means everything. Representation MATTERS!
Maybe Elphaba should've put the MAGA hat on for the Ozdust ball and then her and Glinda should've ploted how to make a big wall to keep the animals out of Oz.
@@cheech41 Not woke? It was about someone overcoming prejudice about her skin color☺. That's as woke as you can get. No doubt @Nicko places no value on racial prejudice themes.

12:09 she just pulls it out of her pocket like it’s nothing 😂❤
For her, I don't think that note/riff is hard for her. When Idina sings it, though, she makes it look really hard.
We see you Cynthia and we are taking notes. I hope you know you’re a star!

Jon Chu! WOW 🤩
The year is 3045. The Wastelanders have taken over New Albuquerque. And the Wicked promotional tour enters it's third phase out of nine.
Now I think Jon M Chu should do Lin Minuel Miranda’s Hamilton film adaptation next since he also did In The Hights if he’s planning on doing it

Her face is so addictive
what’s with the video quality i can see pixels
Her hair will do so much for young Black girls in the future.
That doesn't even make sense

Academy Award?
Why does Gayle remind me of Doja Cat?
Why meme the show. Uggh
37 years old Cynthia Erivo = the blue Fairy pinochio
I love that actress a lot, but Gayel talks too much and she over talk everyone! Can you please be quiet for more than 10 seconds?
She's too much... calm down girl
one word: woke
How is it woke? Like use ya brain cells
It was great. I detest the woke movement and didn’t sense any of it in the movie.
