@@Samramos4488 - Sounds like a good life to me . : ) Have you tried leaving the windows wide open and letting the breezes do the dusting ? I find it works just fine. I have decided that no one shall write my obituary saying she died while dusting and cleaning.
Very elegant and tasteful homes but I’m a bit surprised that a woman who was an innovative fashion designer had such a classical style for her living space, rather than something more modern. I believe that homes where all the rooms lead directly into each other rather than using corridors or hallways is very common in France or, at least, Paris. There’s a lot to like in both homes but I particularly think that soft pink bathroom in the villa is gorgeous.
Love Chanel and her ideas are a constant inspiration for me. I have two rooms decorated in monochrome which could be one of her inspirations. I have always had a bottle of No:5 scent on my dressing table, in fact the only thing that was taken during a recent robbery at our house was just that and nothing else. Now wouldn't that make a good publicity and it's also true. At least it was an easy and delightful task to replace.
I too always have a bottle of No 5 on my dresser. I read somewhere yesterday that the design is based on Boy Capel's hip flask, which is quite likely true. His early death broke her heart and I don't believe she truly loved anyone after that. She is judged harshly but she was a survivor of the workhouse and the orphanage, so protected her own interests and that of her family during the Nazi occupation of Paris. Many others did the same.
Her apartment is beautifully decorated. It's doesn't looked lived in but more for show. I'm not surprised she slept at at the Ritz. I guessed that when she entertained it must have been business.
I love La Pausa (Chanel have named one of their VIP perfumes after La Pausa) especially the architecture and the grounds, but I’m not keen on the decoration of the dining room. It’s quite dated to me. The ground floor is lovely though, and she had that sweeping staircase apparently modelled after the convent she attended as a child - and I quite like her pink bedroom and bathroom, they’re very typical of that era and somehow quite lush and feminine - although they’re also quite dated by today’s standards. Her rue Cambon daytime office and reception areas are stunning though and will never date because of their XVIIIeme taste and antiques. That sitting room with its beige suede sofa and chairs and gilt accents is divine, and very iconic. I also love the crystal ball and gilded lion accents and accoutrements on her coffee table. In that room is the whole Chanel style embodied and symbolised in one location: the colour palette, the layering of textures, the reflection of mirrors, crystals and sparking objets, as well as the contrast of black/white/beige/gold. What is interesting in Chanel is always the juxtaposition of the ancien with the new: the old and the modern.
She never slept in her apartment and there was no bedroom in her apartment. After looking at her apartment I wonder who would like to sleep in such a place that is overcrowded with so many artifacts and pieces - that is just not a peaceful or soothing ambiance. Looking at her place it definitely looks like a place owned by the nouveau riche.
I agree, such a talent, to be Marred significantly by supporting her German General Lover during the French Occupation, and helped him to escape..It amazes me how others were stripped and hair shaven and admonished in the streets..While nothing ever happened to her...
I prefer her Riviera villa - less cluttered. It seems that for her and many other designers, the real money was in the perfumes (Worth perfume is still around). She sold the perfumes and then tried to get her "friends" to get it back for her, but the owner had already sold it. Note: She was a Nazi sympathizer and informant. The major stake in Parfums Chanel had been sold to Pierre Wertheimer, but he "self-aryanized" his holdings and fled to the USA before she could get the occupation forces to get it back. She carried on an affair with Abwehr spy Baron Hans Gunther von Dincklage during the war. It seems her good friendship with Winston Churchill saved her. On a pleasant note, she was the mistress of the obscenely wealthy 2nd Duke of Westminster who sent her a large gift. When the gift turned out to be a box of heads of lettuce, she was furious. She was furious right up until she discovered the emeralds in each head!! Excellent video.
@@christineribone9351 It seems that she even thought that the duke (so rich that when he died Inland Revenue - England's IRS - had to create a division just to handle it!) was going to marry her.
As much as I can admire the aesthetics, I cannot admire the woman for what she did, I don't believe she should be admired but shown for what she was. I just cannot disassociate this from her crimes.
@@S.L.S-407 Well given the severity of her war crimes and the damage she did if you cannot disassosiate her 'talent' from her crimes then you could also say that Hitler was a good painter or Goering was a good father. She was a SPY, lived in the RITZ with the Nazi high command, blackmailed Churchill to destroy her dossier and get her out of prison or she would take down the Royal Family then paid two Nazis after the war every year huge sums of money to leave her name out of their writings. So she made nice clothes and could afford nice antiques, sorry that doesn't make it. There were women in position that resisted and helped the war effort and didn't betray their morals. Sorry but on the subject of Chanel I am vocal.
@@TheFiown - Please re-read what I wrote ! I said I C A N disassociate her talent from her crimes. Goering may have been a good father. I have no idea. No person is all bad, no matter how much you want to believe it. Was what Coco did during the war despicable ? Yes it was, but that does not mean she somehow loses her talent because of it. You need to calm down and look at things more objectively, if you can. What would you say if we found out the Pavarotti was a paedophile? Does that mean he no longer has a great voice? Of course not.
The home on the Riviera is more of a home. The interiors of both homes are too fussy for my taste. The apartment at 31 Rue Cambon is like an addendum to her professional space. I enjoyed this informative video.😊 Whereas, I like certain Chanel pieces, I am not a fan of too much logo which is the direction the "brand" has gone to garner $ from a certain type of consumer whose identity is defined by commercial brands.
Such Beauty, Culture & ICONIC Fashion! Too bad that the Company (especially the Handbag Division), has been taken over by GREED & Shoddy Workmanship! The Prices keep rising & the Workmanship keeps declining! Many are swearing off the ICONIC Chanel Handbags! I have three & I have no plans to buy others! It breaks my heart but I'm done! I'm 73 & wanted a Chanel Double Flap since I was a little Girl in the 50s. I was able to purchase the three I have years ago, now, but with the changes that have been made in the Company, I have no plans to purchase anything else! As it is I'm having problems finding the Iconic Suiting I once Enjoyed! The Cost has gone up Ridiculously. Compared to the Artistry that used to go into the Garments & Leather Goods, it's a Sad presentation & no longer what I wish to contribute to.
I have to agree. People forget that she tried to take the company away from her Jewish partners who, in truth, bankrolled her that eventually guaranteed her legend. People also forget how she left France for Switzerland after the war to escape the wave of retaliation against collaborators. She had a Nazi officer for a lover and her relationship guaranteed that she stayed open for business, enjoyed access to the best restaurants even as ordinary citizens had little to eat. Oh, it was. not only Chanel who benefited from the German occupation. Louis Vuitton too. That's why I admire Dior. He was not only a talented designer but had a sister who was part of the resistance during the war. The perfume, Miss Dior, was created in her honor.
For someone who was known for simplicity in her clothing line, her personal apartments to me seem very fussy and claustrophobic. Her Riviera home was much less cluttered.
Your voice and manner of speaking is delightful, (and quite rare on TH-cam and TicToc.)

Hey, there is Frasier’s sofa!
As much as I can admire the aesthetics, I cannot admire the woman for what she did, I don't believe she should be admired but shown for what she was. I just cannot disassociate this from her crimes.
I agree!
@TheFlown- I can disassociate Coco's crimes from Coco's talent. I admire her talent but not her as a human being.
@@TheFiown very well stated. I completely agree with everything that you have said!!!
I enjoyed this informative video.😊 Whereas, I like certain Chanel pieces, I am not a fan of too much logo which is the direction the "brand" has gone to garner $
from a certain type of consumer whose identity is defined by commercial brands.
can ppl visiting the villa ?
Country home
Excellent points! Thank you for your comment
I've sat on that staircase.
You are born in to elegance by proxy , all you have to do is , be intelligent enough to lead the life of elegance. No one says no to CoCo Chanel!
I didn’t care much for the villa. I think the apartment is much more beautiful.
❤
