  • Need a creative way to give someone a gift? You can’t go wrong with a money lei! Use paper currency in any denomination to make roses and then attach them to a ribbon lei to create a unique gift. These leis are great for so many occasions: graduations, birthdays, Mother’s Day, weddings, showers, and retirements…just to name a few. Customize by choosing the ribbon colors and whatever decorative accents you would like to add. Sky’s the limit!
I went over the process of how to make the roses a bit quickly in this tutorial as I have a separate video which demonstrates the steps in detail. Here’s the link to that video:
Money Roses video: • MONEY ROSES | CREATIVE...
Please check out the money roses tutorial to ensure you have the concept down before attempting the lei.
The standard length of a lei (diameter) is 48 inches. Every person is different, so please keep this in mind when determining what size you make your lei. The average sized adult should be fine with a 48 inch lei, but if the recipient is smaller please size down accordingly. When I made this for an elementary school promotion, I made the lei 42 inches.
Please note you will need 2 pieces of ribbon at 6 yards each for each color. That works out to a total of 12 yards of ribbon in each color to create one 48 inch lei.
I hope you create beautiful leis for many happy occasions!
    Thanks for watching, Happy Crafting!

I love how you instruct. I can't remember what type bills you said to use in another video. I believe you said not to use new bills which is what I always ask for. Lol. I think you had a name for the particular bills that fold more nicely. Thank you.

I like to use what I call “newer” bills. Ones that have been in circulation for a short amount of time. I find they are a little easier to fold than brand new bills. Hope this helps! ❤️

Which is better to use; fishing wire or the 20 gage floral wire? I'm thinking it might depend on how the flower is being used.

Hi! It’s totally your preference! I like to use fishing wire for leis because it’s invisible and floral wire when making bouquets. You can use floral wire for leis, but make sure you’re careful about placement of the wire ends. Don’t want them poking anyone! ❤️

Is it 6 yards for each ribbon with 2 rolls total so 12 yards for one color since you’re doubling it??? I just bought 6 yards and cut into 2 since you said we need to double it and it’s super short -did I do it wrong?

Hi! Oh no! You’re correct that it’s a total of 12 yards for each color. Two pieces of 6 yards long ribbon for each color. I apologize if that was unclear in the video. All is not lost! You can try either gluing or sewing the 2 pieces of yarn together to make it the 6 yards you’ll need. As you’ll be weaving the ribbons together it should stay together without separating and if you add in the roses, it will mask where you glued/sewed. Hope this helps! ❤️

Ahhh such a good idea! I will try gluing them and place the roses over them to cover it. Thanks so much!!! So excited to try this!!
