      @@horseg27 Victorian here, I’ve never heard Form One Lane used backwards before lol. Yeah we don’t hear much about Canberra as a place to live, I’m in my 60s and only associate it with politics. I know people live there , but never thought about the differences like with QLD, Tassy etc. I got an education today thanks to Jimmy lol. I remember my dad in the 1960s having to go to meetings in Canberra, all I remain saying, it was boring. I don’t mean to be rude, but guess, as I’ve never been there, it’s a tad quieter than other places in Aus?

    • @horseg27
      @horseg27 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@bernadettelanders7306 it's written on the roads 'lane one form' I guess so you can read it as form one lane as you drive over it??? It's one of those silly things you're used to seeing, but also didn't realise that nobody else has lol.
      It's definitely quieter here, but I personally love it. There's no place I'd rather live. Other cities are far too busy. I'd say it's probably picked up a lot from the sixties though! We have tons of cafes around these days and decent enough restaurants. Shopping is the thing we really don't compare with other cities, we don't have the high end stuff that Sydney and Melbourne has. Just depends on what you want to do, but there's still plenty of things to do here should you ever decide to visit.
      Getting around is a breeze and it only takes half an hour to go from one end of Canberra to the other. Jimmy is right though, we do complain about any trip more than 20 mins! We love to joke that anything over that is a day trip and you need to take a packed lunch 😂
      I've loved learning about all the different cities through this series! What better way to put everybody's little quirks on display than with a good dose of humour! Lols

      @@aperitifs If you only moved to Melbourne in November 2021, I would recommend just getting out there and discovering everything it has to offer. I thought the same as you for about 1-2 years, but when I did 'the tour', I was soon converted. I miss going to Mordialloc, getting fish and chips from 'Tour de Café' and sitting at the beach or going for a long walk. I spoke with someone recently who lives in Melbourne. They came for a visit to Canberra and said "how beautiful it was". With the benefit of living in both Canberra and Melbourne, I was able to provide her with many examples as to why she should stay where she is, particularly as she has two children and there's only about 5 things a parent can do with kids in Canberra. Plus, in general, so much more to do in Melbourne (so, so much more). Glad I talked her straight. In regards to bike paths, many new suburbs have bike paths or dedicated areas for cyclists (Lysterfield Park). I'm a distance runner and I love the fact when I go down to Melbourne there's actually dedicated athletic running tracks that are free for public use, plus so many more facilities such as doctors and medical - I actually took my daughter to Melbourne for a specialist doctors appointment which was available within weeks, whereas the first appointment in Canberra would have taken months.

    Jimmy don't forget nearly colliding with a Roos on the main hwy out of Canberra, thinking your staying in the Canberra when you staying at the ibis at Eagle Hawk but your really in NSW. Taking your interstate Relos to the top of Black Mountain to see the aging Telecom Tower. Being confused on whats the difference between some of the names of the Museums in Canberra and then going to the wrong one, but because the right one is up the road you leave your car parked at the wrong one and then your forget where you parked your car as after you went to the right one you also went to the National Library, had a long lunch at old Parliament house ended up Questacon for the arvo and you need to take a taxi to find where you originally parked your car, and you gotta rush back to the hotel to change as Dinner reservations at Civic is at 6:15pm, but the reservation was for the Belconnen restaurant and you could of taken the other road and you practically circled the ACT in one evening to get to dinner.
