With 25 percent tariffs threats around the corner, which could devastate the economy, why would BoC not do a 50 basis points rate cut? Only a 50 bps cut Jan 29 might get people off the fence to stimulate the housing sector and lower the borrowing cost on SMEs to spur employment and growth and consumer confidence again. The rationale of propping up the dollar cannot be the sole factor to consider to do a 25 bps as other bank economists are pushing. Inflation is at 1.8 percent and over a million home owners who have been carrying the high mortgage costs post pandemic need a break. They deserve to be rewarded with a very low mortgage rate they can lock in for 5 years while rolling up their socks and tightening their belts to weather the storm of a potential tariff. They did their fair share post pandemic and cannot be asked to make sacrifices again for a boogeyman threat from Trump. Canada has to take a stand and not give in to bullies.

I stopped watching. She may have a point, but I find myself spending more effort trying to hear her words correctly. It's not prejudice. If she is going to speak publicly, she needs to adapt to what viewers appreciate.

If each cut is 0.25%, they are expecting, statistically speaking, 2.5 cuts this year, or 0.65% (65bps). Obviously there can’t be half a cut, so she’s saying it should be 2 or 3 cuts, with equal likelihood of either.
