JJ was right to tinker with the roster at the beginning of the season. That's how he figures out what works and doesn't. It's better to do it early then late. Also at this point I'll take Max over Rui pretty much anytime. Rui had the game of his life a few seasons ago to get a contract but he is way to inconsistent.

One of the biggest flaws the Lakers brass has made is to continue to reference making the western conference final as proving their team was very good and close to being a title contender. They got lucky facing an injury depleted grizzlies team and tired warriors team. They got swept by the nuggests. They have 2 of the greatest players of all time on their team and there mistakes losing assets and being cheap at times killed there chances. Letting Randle go for nothing, Zubac traded for nothing. Math mistakes forcing them to dump players like Vagner. Too cheap to sign Caruso… giving all the vet min guys player options. These are terrible mistakes. I also do not think AR is good enough to not have a more complimentary guard next to him (not saying you have to trade him). The tunnel vision, the difficulty with pressure d, the lack of athleticism, the tendency to look down when he gets in trouble and miss the board, and trying to force bounce passes in the lane instead of lobs at times. I really think you need an athletic ball handler, playmaker, next to him at least in the playoffs. A two way, guard with switchable size and complimentary skills without the need to constantly be on ball. Similar to Ayo Dosunmu if you can get him. Also it's interesting that people keep wanting to replace Rui in the starting lineup with a better fit, which does make sense, but placing that over fixing the 2 spot is little different. We have had 5 players we have tried at the 2, Dlo (technically AR), Cam, DK, Gabe, and now Max. It's definitely a position of great need, maybe even a greater need (especially when you consider that they may not be willing to trade Rui). And it should be a player with a skillset that shows we recognize the weaknesses in AR's game, and Lebron's age and need for rest or to just not be on ball as often.

I get everyone hates LeBron and the "chokehold" he seem to have on the Lakers team. I feel like the front office playing it too safe I get that you have to consider draft assets and not just plugging pieces hoping for a new result. A decision needs to be made - they are all in or just go full rebuild. You can skim around the margins when you have AD and LeBron on your team.
