I'm not even in the air cadets anymore but I never properly learned how to shine my shoes. Finally a tutorial that doesn't tell me to use hairspray or cheat, thanks
Hands down, the best mirror shining technique I’ve tried that has ACTUALLY made my shoes super shiny & smooth. I think I have a little more to go BUT YASSSS FINALLY.
Great video, very informative. One piece of unsolicited advice however: Don't say things that undermine your skill. Things like "I don't know". It takes away some of the viewer's confidence in you. You're making the video because you DO know how to shine a shoe, so be proud of your knowledge and give it as best you can. I appreciate your humility but the people here are looking for someone who DOES know how to shine shoes, so be that someone! Thanks again and cheers.
Hi, I’m from Singapore and I am a scout. I watched your videos in the past and back here after graduating from scouts as I’m graduating secondary school soon. Ur video helped me a lot and I managed to teach my juniors well. I hope you are doing fine and well now
My dad showed me a method that takes 10mins for a experienced 'buller' and 30 for a not so experienced one. 1. Polish the boots and layer multiple times until a good amount of layers is applied. 2. Take a cotton ball or cloth and soak and i mean drown it do not rinse 3. Put a bit of polish on and go in circles pressing down slightly in bigish circles 4. Make sure it's soaked and go in small circles pressing really lightly 5. keep going until shiny (I'll do a vid if ppl want)
Get a heat gun or hair dryer on them, and then wipe off the fog with a wet towel. It will remove the bumps, uneven layering of polish and soften scratches.
Sure, use a heat gun/hair dryer to dry out your leather so it can make cracks! WRONG!!!! Leather needs to be nourished by a good leather conditioner, such as made by Bickmore. Let the show dry before applying polish/wax. No heat is necessary!!!
Hey there. I'm also a 14 year old female :) I have tried a lot to get my shoes to look as good as yours many different ways, and nothing has worked so far. However, this video worked miricales for me, and now my shoes look incredible, ready for my rememberance day parade tomorrow! Thank you so much for putting this video on. Much appreciated! :D
Thank you so much. i know this is an old video but i recently got new female parade shoes as i joined not so long ago, and i had no clue how to get a good shine. After watching your tutorial they are so shiny, thanks :)
Thank You so much. I didn't know that with this method I can produce this much of shine on my shoes. I tried it and get amazing result. People often ask me "Are these new shoes???" or "Do you polish your shoes daily???". Etc. Thanks Again.
Only the creases will crack and the more polish that is in there the less cracking goes on. The Toecap and hellcaps will not crack as they are not designed to bend.
several smaller layers and buff, buff, and buff. Mirror shine. I have gotten many "Outstanding" comments in the elevators at work :). Trust me, people DO look at your shoes.
Not gonna lie to you mate... you’ve clearly beeswaxed your second one... you can see the wax line.... good shine, but yours aren’t legitimately just polish as you’ve displayed😉 I do this for a living. Good effort tho bud!
You shine shoes for a living? What made you want to that, I’m just interested because I did my first show after watching this video because I’m in JROTC.
Apply heat to the cracked layer. It will even out the bumps and the kiwi will stick firmly to the leather and will not crack again ever, unless it is stepped on or scratched (But you can repeat the same treatment if it is stepped on or scratched). You can use lighter or candle for such purpose if you can't get a heat gun. Heat treated kiwi layer can be easily polished to mirror shine, directly with small amount of kiwi and water without having first layered it, as the older layer is melted and hardened in the pores of the leather. To improve the shine, use ice cold water. You need only a small droplets of water, placed directly on the shoes /boots if you wish, for mirror shine. You can even do that to the whole shoes/boots that even creases and folds would not break up the kiwi. They will be glassy smooth and shinny throughout unless the leather starts to crack. However, remember to heat treat a thin layer at a time before mirror-shinning it and build up the hardened kiwi layer gradually until the layer is thick enough that you only need to do mirror shine straight away.
I can do this in a day or even a few hours use cheap polish and it will take mutch longer Use a polish like saphir mirror gloss dries instantly so no waiting for it to dry takes no time at all Also use a cream polish first protects and nourishes the leather
It DOES matter if the wax/polish is cracked in the can. It means the evaporative agent in the polish/was is evaporated and it won't soak into the leather and dry. It also gets messy with chips that fall out of the can and off the rag. Pay the extra bux for a good quality wax/ polish.
cover the shoe or boot in polish over night . brush off next day. use yellow duster to start to build layers on the boot with a bit of spit. keep working on t until you get a deep shine. repeat bulling with a smooth cloth to remove scratches and good to go endex
Very good beginner tutorial. Provides the basics but a little more specific instructions would help to guide thise persons that arent exactly experienced with the polishing process.
Leather is porous because it is basically skin that's been treated and tanned. The pores on the leather absorb light which makes the surface seem dull and rough. On a good set of shoes one could actually see the pores. When one adds polish to the leather each subsequent layer will fill the pores of the leather causing the light to reflect off the surface.
it is a pretty good techique however the reason why theres that massive bit in the middle of that toecap is because whoever polished it has used too much water kind of trapping the polish and stopping you from achieving a shine. if you ever get this, use a hairdryer and melt the polish off. to get the polish off use the hairdryer and use an off brush and once you got your polish off, leave it to dry for at least an hour and then you can start polishing again 👍
Are you allowed to have or use Saphir products or just Kiwi? I grew up with Kiwi, my father was in the Navy and just handed that down to me but I just couldn't get that mirror look until i discovered Saphir Gloss Wax. So much easier then Kiwi, and lasts longer too...
It really depends on the expectations. If you arent in cadets or the military, do whatever you want with the polish. If its military or cadets, its better to not use the ones that give gloss because if you dont know how to use it, it could end up giving the boot or shoe cancer
Need some help here, no matter how many layers I do, my shoes end up being matte.. Basically they shine less then they did after putting on just shoe cream... What am I doing wrong? Is it the quality of the products I use? Do I use too much water?
believe it or not i actually quite like shining shoes, but if they are badly stripped i would fully strip them and then build up the layers (100) and bull for a good amount of time constantly until i can see my face. This is what i would do, but i have not done the bulling method just yet, only the brush buff. How old are you?
CraftCrafted doing a good job son when you finish get Cotton wool and run cold water over the toe cap and doo small circles and the shine will get even better

Cyanide it can take a very long time to get it as shiny as that, you just have to do loads of layers and be patient. Mine took about a month from the start to get it really shiny

2 1/2. wait for it to dry

One thing I would add to this process for beginners is to clean/wipe down your shoes before applying any kind of shoe polish.

Dont do it in thick layers. Create several smaller layers first
Yea otherwise it cracks
So do this process with smaller layers?
@@isla4511basically yeah
Thank you for this video! Best technique I've come across so far with amazing results 🙌
Get a heat gun or hair dryer on them, and then wipe off the fog with a wet towel. It will remove the bumps, uneven layering of polish and soften scratches.
true however, be extremely careful as to not over heat it and to spread it evenly otherwise you will get cracks all over your boots
Jay Elixir in the day we lite them with a lighter, heat gun is definitely more controlled.

Ditch the Kiwi. Use Lincoln. Use thinner layers. Drops of water at a time.
how about using fire on that dried polish? would it be more shining?
It can lead to cracking...if done with experience it's OK on the toe and heel but it should only be used as a last ditch effort in a pinch...

Any kind of polish can be built up in layers. After the layers are well established future shines get much easier...

I take a blow torch to my shoes after the polish has been applied. Then let it cool and buff to a glass like shine
This only works on my toe caps it strips from the rest of the shoes after 1 or 2 days. NEVER mind it strips off the toe cap after like a week
