On "My Car Story" we're at the Carlisle Events in Carlisle PA on 7-14-23.
We're looking at a 1969 Dodge Dart GTS GT Sport in White Paint. The car comes with the M Code 440 CI V8 engine, and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Mickey Tate. Mickey’s had this car since 2018. He shared that he had a car like this before, sold it and then needed to find another one, and searched for 8 years and found this car. His wife Connie feels relieved he found his Toy again and now this will save a lot of time no longer searching for one.

That is an awesome car. It's hard to imagine Chrysler corporate bigwigs approving a 440 Magnum in a Dart. Fortunately, someone did allow it. The car story is simple and basic, but it;s a rock solid story - the man gets lucky many times - he gets his dream car, and he's got a woman who understands and supports him. That's as good as it gets. Thanks Lou!

It's funny how we are all different. White would be the last color I would want any muscle car in. As a state trooper, I drove a white car for 35 years. I don't consider white a color. It would not be prudent to change the 440 Dart as it is all original. But for me, I would want a pistol grip 4 speed and make mine in Green Go or Panther Pink!

@@davidhechler5882 - actually looking at the door tag by the hinges it appears to be an original gold car like my 71 Roadrunner was originally but white always looked sharp to me. Richard, do you remember the color code for your roadrunner? My gold leaf metallic 72 Demon 340 was GY8. I believe Plymouth just called it Gold metallic. I actually wanted a six barrel roadrunner but the insurance would have killed me and all the drag racers at the time said that if I could not get a 440 roadrunner, go with an A body car with 340. Better power to weight ratio. My very favorite roadrunner is the 70 model. I just loved the lines and the dust trail stripes.@@richarddevoe5871

The 440 4speed cars from Chrysler came with a Dana rear. It didn't fit on a Dart so they went with a 8 3/4 and the torqueflight. There were also concerns that the clutch linkage would not hold up to the 440's torque.

This video makes me smile Lou. Imagine having your dream car from your past again.. I was never so lucky to have the "cool" cars when I was young. I had the Vegas and boring big malaise(sp) era cars most of my life. I did however have a great friend that had a 1975 Dart Swinger that if I am correct is pretty similar to this car... body wise. Minus the structural reinforcement that had to happen to handle that big block. His when he got it had the "leaning tower of power" LOL! But about a year later had a snappy little 318 in it. A quick buff on the faded maroon paint and some SOS pads and a good rinse on the white top.... Too much Armor all.. LOL she was shining like a diamond..(don't mind those rust holes down there;) )..That's weight reduction.. HAHA. After his Girlfriend at the time cleaned up the interior, WHITE!! interior. It was pretty slick. The keystone Classics, skinnies in the front and way too wides in the back (you know the kind, Like no you can't sit in the back. My tires will rub.) Was it the fastest? Nope. Did it sing through them glass packs? yes.. I love your videos. Especially the guys that find either the car they had or one just like it when they were young... I also know I am very long winded.. I appologise there too. Just some of you r videos take me back... I smile. Remembering. Thank you for what you do. Take care.

    That's a cool car!
Back in 1974 I went to work for a company and they had a Dart GT parked in the driveway. It had a hood like this car but was a 383. I had never seen one of these before and was impressed. With 3 growing kids, I guess "mom" needed something a little bigger. "Dad" was already driving a 1971 Coronet 383 s/w, so "mom" came home with a 1974 Coronet s/w with faux wood sides equipped with a 360 4-barrel V8.
I'm surprised that this GTS didn't have power brakes. If this car had been driven the way it was meant to be, it would have needed all the braking it could get. Obviously it wasn't driven that way or the car would have disappeared long ago.

    • @JrGoonior
      @JrGoonior ปีที่แล้ว

Power brake booster wouldn't fit, neither does the power steering box. None of these have them. I've driven manual brakes from this era and they are not as tough as everyone makes them out to be. It's very easy to lock up the brakes in a panic stop.

Just think if Chrysler would have used their A body cars, Dodge Darts and Plymouth Barracudas, as their main muscle cars instead of the B bodies. The A body is so much lighter. Can you imagine the roadrunner, GTX, and Dodge R/T's were A bodies with the 440 and Hemi's? A lot of publications and people think that the fastest muscle car of the 60's was the AC Cobra. Actually, the fastest muscle car made from the factory were the 50 or so Hemi Darts made in 1968. It was a 10 second machine right from the factory. MOPAR or NO car.

I bought a '69 Swinger that came from the original owner in Texas. In '78-'79, he pulled the 340 & put the drivetrain from a '68 Road Runner in it. Parked it not long after...so it's solid, BB, and not numbers matching. Perfect base to make a modern restomod out of. 400 stroker? Sure! 6-speed? Why not? Chassis stiffening, 4WDB , modernized AC (it was factory 340 AC car), better seats- nothing too painfully obvious, but safer, faster, more efficient & durable

Such a clean machine! You always find nice cars for MCS, Mr. C, but this lil monster is as nice as any!
K..lil back story on the Dart GTS: If mem serves..(it still does usually at my advanced age of 57 aha,) Mopar didn't plan on a
big block A body. However, in '67, it was famous perf car tuner/car dealer Grand Spaulding Dodge that shoehorned a
383 into a Dart 1st. Ma Mopar had recently
made the engine bay a smidge larger. They called up Chrysler & they replied..
"Our engineers said it wouldn't fit". (..that was likely true of the 64-66 cars) Grand Spaulding guys said, "Oh yeah?"
Chrysler said.."Bring it up!" So they did. 1 concession for the tight fit, is a low po exaust mani on theee..psngr side i believe
to make rm. But..HP manis _WILL_ fit..things are just eeeextraaaa snug, then.
