  • Are you planning a trip to Thailand? Make sure you’re up to date with the breaking news entry requirements on COVID rules for entry. As of January 9th 2023 (Not 100% confirmed) all travelers to Thailand must present proof of 2 COVID-19 vaccinations. Additionally, all travelers must have travel insurance that covers COVID-19 treatment
    Please note that these rules are subject to change, so make sure to check the Thai government's website and your embassy's website for the most up-to-date information before you depart.
    Also I’ve heard that all ED visas and Volunteer visas could be suspended but this is just hear say at this time. Will the new rules effect you ? Will they effect me?

      thanks for the update Wayne. other things I've seen in the news that our oddly coincidental and concerning, what is that immigration restrictions came after pressure from China, following reports that Thailand was considering restricting visitors from China. And now that China is allowing millions of Chinese tourists to flee the country in the midst of a worse epidemic, with reports of new more infectious and dangerous variants they did it in 2020, one has to wonder what the potential consequences of that will be?

However I think they're just doing to the appease the Chinese and they'll drop it eventually once high season dies down. Philippines, can stay for 3 years without leaving the country doing renewals. The renewals do take a 1/2 a day though every 59 days. They also have long stay visas for ppl under 50 if you are willing to put $50k money in the bank. If you want same vibe as CM, consider Dumaguete and Davao and maybe Cebu City. If you want the glitz - Makati or Bonafacio Global City in Manila is your place.

    Most under 30-40 year old digital nomads I know here have bitten the bullet and bought the 5-year Elite Visa. If they haven't got the £15,000 now they've taken a low interest UK loan. Works out at £3000 a year, initially then you have 5 years to earn another 400k to convert to the 20 year Visa. 20 years (1m b.) brings the cost down to £1235 a year, £100 a month which I think is good value, because of the life/cost balance, even compared with other SE asian countries.
    With Elite, there's no need to show any earings, you can stay legally, can ask for help with 90 reporting, and other requirements, you fast track through immigration when returning. Seems a good deal to me.
    I'm late 50s so just show I have 800k in a bank here to stay on OA/O visa.

    Frankly speaking ED visas for many years for anything other than legitimate academic courses such as degrees (Bachelors or Masters) are very discretionary. You have been lucky if you have had 3 years of these temporary visas. Typically Immigration will allow one ED visa and maybe if lucky a 2nd one and if learning Thai you can expect to be interviewed on arrival to test any language you have learned. Your advice is very sound.

    • @YuChiGongG
      @YuChiGongG ปีที่แล้ว

      You forgot to mention the PhD. Some PhD programs can last up to five years. At which time, one can work towards a second, and even a third, PhD.
      Just write a thesis and research proposal, find a few academic advisors at a Chiang Mai University, and go for it.
      After you get your first PhD, then the second and third should be easier.
      IMHO, spending one's life working towards 4 PhDs in Chiang Mai, over a period of 20 years, sounds quite grand.

    Good News:
    1. Concerning the PCR Proof a.k.a. Health Insurance policy states that it is mandatory IF you are passing through TH. Let's say I go from Budapest, HU to Auckland, NZ and I transition through CHX or Bankok Airport, then I need a PCR.
    IF I have been residing in the country in a row, so to speak - Local in whatever form, and using domestic flights, PCR and Insurance are not mandatory. Same as if I fly from SF, BG to CHX TH, I need to provide only the antidote shots list, but not a PCR proof.
    2. Concerning the Shots proof, THIS IS THE REAL MANDATORY PART, said in a simple human language - they care more about the stamp on two mandatory vac shots, rather than the date. In other words, if your two mandatory shots were shot in May, 2022, they do not care about it, but rather care about the official seal stamp upon the document, so they can register a valid proof entry.

    OK : need proof of 2 jabs that you show when u depart your country not on arrival, no PCR required. Travel insurance should be compulsory. Good news is no face nappies except on public transport. And my guess is it will be dropped by end of Feb after chinese new year.

    What about getting the Thai Elite Visa.

  • @stevejohnson2130
    @stevejohnson2130 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What's the problem with entering Thailand with insurance? Everyone should have insurance, but of course if there's an accident it's Go Fund Me,
    total bollox, get insurance! Education visa has been a scam for at least 25yrs, long before you arrived mate.

    • @WalkAboutWayne
      @WalkAboutWayne  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing wrong with entering with insurance. Who said there was?

    • @stevejohnson2130
      @stevejohnson2130 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Walk-About Wayne plenty of people on social media .
      Muppets getting involved in accidents and then realising there 'insurance' doesn't cover them for motorbike accidents. This wasn't directed at you mate.

    The tourist will keep away from Thailand and go to other places. Thailand is losing out big time with all these unessaery rules

    Good on you for standing your ground on the jab, I am a dual citizen Thai and Australia. Could I still get back there on my Thai passport unjabbed? I wouldn’t even want to take the test if it’s involved forcing the swab into me.

    • @WalkAboutWayne
      @WalkAboutWayne  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Sassy! Yes, seems like most people can enter without jabs now. The rules are the same as they was, fully open. I don't think you'll even need a test on entry with a Thai passport.

    Agree with you mate....the visa's are a pain in the arse there ! Was thinking of going back to Phuket but I refuse to get the jab's !! Be careful with other countries too..as many require double jabs as well! Safe travel's Wayne.

    Thailand was much better before the digital nomads. internet ruined it. not the land of smiles any longer. all the cool places that once where are just too easy to get to nowadays. you could always get a VIP visa, good for 5 years. if your not rich and or retired they want you to spend a month, spend money and than go home.

    Bit false information Wayne. It has been said that insurance is only needed by those who’s home country requires a negative RT PCR Test on returning home. Insurance needs to cover you for 7 days more than your departure from thailand. But as I say , compulsory insurance only applies to travelers from these certain countries 💗🇹🇭🙏

    Thailand is shooting itself in the foot, people will choose other locations to travel. Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos will take over from the Thai tourism imo😊
