Love your accent... there is a genetic test available to determine ancestry. I've found that because there is such wide variety colors & mixes none are much over 80% Maine Coon Gene! Never knew could be Maine Coon w/o Lynx tips. I thought that semi water proof fur is generally longer. My Maine Coon's Tail (now 4 months old) is so long, he still chases it constantly for self entertainment. Touches beyond his shoulder & he's Escape Artist out and up a tree via a door being opened after birds! Loves water, walks in it or sleeps in it in Shower! Uses litter box best ever & drinks so much water got to clean litter box everyday or at least 3 to 4 times a week! So Strong can pull his 6 lbs weight up like pull up, walk narrow ledge like tight rope walker! Freaky Good Balance... chirps at squirrels/birds and goes nuts over seeing deer outside! Thanks for Awesome Educational Videos! Subscribed! ☺
I know one of mine has some Maine Coon in him but isn’t pure bread. He’s so adorable. Loving, playful, a clown, affectionate. Likes his running water! Chirps for communication. All the personality traits are exactly right. Beautiful too. Love him to bits!
There is no such thing as a pure Maine Coon. They are a combination of several breeds that always includes Norwegians. All Maine Coons are mixes. Genome studies have proven it. "Pedigrees can be faked and invented. Genome analysis can not.
I got my Maine coon at a shelter 10 yrs ago and love it dearly. 30 kittens were there and he picked me two days in a row and melted my heart ! He is huge, funny and smart. I call him my Cadog. Ginger, 34" long and 19 pounds ! When he gets in your lap you know it !
I adopted a kitten from a local rescue. He kept climbing on me at the rescue and I decided then and there he wanted me to be his person. He was about 3-4 months when I brought him home. He was solid black but I noticed all of the traits you have mentioned except the ear tops. He was my baby for 13 yrs. and I miss him. I a keep looking for a Maine Coon at the shelters close to me because if I can save one I would be overjoyed! No worries I have other cats so I’m not missing feline love, just want that MC personality in my life again!! Have a great cat day!!
We rescued an abused Maine Coon. She wasn't a kitten, possibly 1+ year old. She's a gorgeous ginger with an expressive plumage tail. She is DELIGHTFUL. I have taught her 3 tricks and feel she could learn more. She MUST take a daily shower with me. She has the sweetest disposition. We often wonder HOW anyone could be mean to her. We love her to bits and treat her like one of our children. 😊
Me and my girlfriend just recently adopted a kitten from a shelter. They charged 75 extra dollars that they didn’t ask for the other cats. We just loved him so we didn’t mind the extra money. Might I also add they didn’t list him as a Maine coon. After we got home and watched him for a little bit we noticed there’s something weird about his fur and his tail. So we thought maybe he’s a Maine coon. After watching this video I’m almost 90% positive we have one, and we are so happy because that is our dream cat.
I have a Maine Coon mix (mom was half, and they think there may have been some on dad’s side; he was an accident). I fully believe he’s part raccoon. He uses his paws like fingers and knows how to open the cupboards and trash cans, and he only uses this power for mischief. He enjoys stealing food and is a sneaky little monster, and he’s ungodly smart. He’s a handful, but he’s my handful.
Lol.. mine does as well, I read they use their paws for eating.. this guy never ceases to amaze me .. I found him as a sick stray.. he never leaves my side, except when he crawls above my head.. turns out he's polydactyl as well vet says he thinks he's full blooded, when I take him to the vet he draws a crowd.. never screams, sits quietly on the ride.. not afraid of anything when he's with me, he's a great mouser too, got one during the cold spell, I thought he would tear the doors off my kitchen cabinets getting to it... No mice here.. never had a cat anything like him.. I wouldn't trade him for anything.. he's my baby now, and forever.. what a guy.. ❤❤️🩹
I bought mine from breeder I wanted a PURBRED. Gorgeous but such a Jaaka** sometime.dont like taken baths.gets very aggressive.attacks neighbors dog he loves taking walks on leash bought a stroller he loves it.hes 11 months old got him Neutered last month very big mistske.hes very small he's not gonna grow anymore got him Neutered to young.i should of waited when he was 18 months
My Maine Coon cat was free. She was rescued from a scrap metal pile in a small town, and I went by to pick her up. At that time, she was five weeks old and just a ball of fuzz. Months later, I discovered she was a Maine Coon cat. At a year and a half, she is my beloved Stormy: very fluffy, very chill, and a smoky black color. She plays fetch, chirps (never meows), and is very good about her bath. I wouldn't trade her for anything. Best. Cat. Ever.
Breeders would like you to believe that Maine Coons can only be had through expensive breeders for big money when in fact they are quite common and can be found at any shelter.
I believe i have a maine coon also but he does not like baths and is very vocal also likes to only drink water from the sink wont drink out of a bowl he test the water with his paw and has all the features of a MC nuttin like are other cat
@@williardbillmore5713 Very True! My MAINE COON was from a litter of an Old Mama Cat. Given to me cause she was sooo sassy, knocking over stuff & playing in Water(something she loved, Water 💦💦💦)!!! Hence her name: "SASSY SUE"!!! "PEGGY SUE" gave her to me----that little fluffy kitten was mine for 18 years. Female, had those 3 coats of fur, no Linux tuffs tho, huge fluffy tail, many beany toes and claws(from 8 to 6)! She was brushed a lot, had too. Only had to shave her fur once, was out of state for bout 5 months, when I came back she was full of mats to the skin..... .sad female! She liked to be clean and brushed. But No more bathes after about 1 Year old. Silly Girl Cat, she liked the Sand and pine cones of NC. Not so much the Ohio, USA weather!
@@williardbillmore5713 mine came from a shelter. I was looking to rescue a cat and he just happened to be a maine coon. I would have taken any old moggy.
My youngest brought me a kitten for a wedding present. He was the fluffiest ball of fur and had the bushiest tail I’ve ever seen! He also had the strangest meow. Your Pippin could be his twin. I’d never even heard of the breed until I got him and then we saw a show about them. He chose our granddaughter as his human from the moment he saw her. They were only 2 months apart in age. As she grew, it didn’t matter what she did to him, he never retaliated. He just took it. Our vet confirmed he definitely has a LOT of MC features. He also jumps in the tub and waits for someone to turn the water on! I’d never seen that either! Lol. Until he developed diabetes, he weighted in at 17+ pounds. He now stays around 12 pounds. This is the sweetest cat I’ve ever had! He doesn’t have the lynx tips, but he has just about every other trait. We call him the family dog.
What a lovely wedding present 😻. The Maine Coon cat breed is truly very special and I cannot imagine not owning one of these dog-like cats. My husband was hinting that he wants a set of MC kittens only yesterday - he doesn’t care that he’s allergic to them if they lick or scratch him!! 😻 We also call our Pippin the family dog :) Not all Maine Coons have Lynx tips. Take a look at this article I wrote: www.mainecooncentral.com/do-all-maine-coons-have-lynx-tips/
I know this is a bit our of the ordinary but does he stop in the door way while coming into your room? I read about such behavior then discovered that our "Rusty" did exactly that!!
Never realized I had a full bred black and white Maine Coon! I was taking a walk one day and saw him across the lawn. (I had just lost my black and white female Manx a couple of weeks before that.) I called the cat I saw and it came running to me. It was very affectionate and wanted petting and my talking to it. Then I continued my walk and noticed that the cat started following me. I thought it might get run over so I went over and picked it up. It didn't resist me. I brought it to where I found it and walked back to the direction it came from. I decided to to go up to the house and knock on the door. There was no answer. Then I walked to another house near by...inquiring about the cat. An older man came to the door. I mentioned above the cat. Then he told me it's owner had died a couple of weeks ago and that the cat was on its own. He said "do you want it? I said yes and he told to go back and get it so I did. The cat let me pick it up. I took it home. I had cat food and bowls from my previous cat and gave the cat I just had gotten some food and it seemed very grateful. At that time never realizing what a prize I had. I will continue my story. There is too much to write about at this time...but I will continue when I can. I miss my beautiful big black and white bundle of Love and fur!😪😥
Lovely story!!! I do rescue and it was a Blessing you found that Big Boy!! We see this a lot with beloved pets being dumped. Read DAN ROTHENHOEFER's comment about the MC they found at a shelter due to swath of the owners and the children dumped their parents' cat. So glad you gave that boy a Loving Home!!!
My parents acquired 2 mane coon cats in succession. They were both female, black and white and strays that just showed up at their house. Both were very lovely cats.
Very interesting indeed! Thanks! 😊 We adopted a kitten last year... He's definitely not pure breed, since his mother was a common car... But he's different from any other cat I've ever had (and I still have 3 others)... He's really talkative, seems to understand us, is really affectionate... And has some dog trades. For example, he likes to go to the roof with another of our cats. But if you call him, he comes down meowing! Either way, he is 1yo now and doesn't seem to have stopped growing. He still doesn't have a big head like other male cats and his nose just started getting wider. And the most interesting part is the distance between his legs and arms... He's really long! But, well... I'm going to keep watching him. We shall see. 😊
My mix coon was 18lbs. He had every indicators. He loved water and neighbors with pools would be visited by him. He chased strange dogs but loved other cats. He was the giant gentle ruler of the cat household. He had chirps but also he could meow when he really insist on something such as letting him out of whatever he got into. I miss Jack.
I would 100% recommend Maine coon cats to every family, even a single person. These cats are the absolute highlight to people's lives. I have 3, one was a rescue and because of her I fell in love and bought 2 Russian Maine coons from a breeder 7 hours away. They are so intelligent, fun, and playful. The chirping they do when they pur is absolutely so cute. Once you own a Maine coon no other cat can compare. (But always hide snacks in heavy drawers they are highly intelligent and can sneek them)
Rescued a male who lived outdoors 24/7 for 3 years, having him inside now for 20 months. Best cat ever! Bigger than my previous rescues for sure, but OMG keep food put away, he knows how to survive!
My calico had kittens. One was solid black with the biggest ears I had personally ever seen on a kitten. Once, he fell in a bucket of water and just kind of stood and looked at the water wondering what it was. I was surprised that he wasn’t trying to get out. Now that he older he has a very majestic nose & head. He’s very fluffy with the mane, a long tail & big fluffy paws. He loves to cuddle (with me or my Aussie) & weighs over 15 lbs. The base of his head to the base of his tail is 18”. He does meow but it sounds more like a kitten. (Very talkative) He even tells me when he runs out of water! He loves to hang out with me, in the bathroom or in the car while I’m cleaning. I believe he’s part Maine Coon. Mr. Moose 😁
My cat had six kittens. Two looked just like a Ragdoll. I rehomed one and kept the smallest one. He was the most beautiful cat and had very distinct personality. Very smart.
I have a mixed breed Maine coon and she has all of these traits, she’s just slightly smaller, with shorter legs, but has the very long body, long fluffy tail with rings, lions mane, stunning green eyes, very mischievous and intelligent. She never meows. But she will pant like a dog when chasing around her toys, loves to climb everything, very loyal, follows me everywhere I go. Turns on the kitchen taps and opens the cupboards. Lovely intelligent beautiful cat. So even a mixed breed can be a great cat.
Sometimes the world works in mysterious way’s… you’ve been blessed with another best friend. It’s beyond difficult losing a beloved pet…( I’ve been through it to many time’s) but your giving that homeless Maine Coon a forever loving home. That’s something to be proud of… thank you for taking her in. ❤
Mine does chirp & meow but meow is high pitched & changes like he's talking to you. Jumps up at food time tries to take it out of your hand & tail is almost 13 inches at 4mos 1week? Longer than my adult cats tail already! Yours opens BD doors? LOL... hopefully he closes them too! :D
Adopted two rescue kittens this fall and have been suspecting they may be Maine Coon cats. Your video has helped to convince me that they probably are! About five months old. Thrown out of a truck at several weeks old!😱 One girl, one boy. Cute as can be. And ever so playful! Thanks for your help!
It was your explanation of the chirp which totally convinced me. I’ve thought that Tiny sounded like she was barking at me. Such an affectionate sweetheart she is. Very observant and smart. Her brother, Tito, will certainly be our “Pretty Boy”.
My Mom had a wonderful Maine Coon named Lilly. The grands named her Grandma Kitty. My cat, Steve is half Maine Coon. He has all the traits, but he does meow, not often but on occasion. I love him anyway.
My MC definitely meows, as well as trills and chirps. He does have two downsides: Needs outdoor time every day, and continuously sheds lots of fur. Apart from that they are lovely laid back cats. 🙂
Recently adopted a kat from my favorite no-kill shelter. The kat was a rescue from the city shelter and was due to be killed. Usually breed is of no concern to me. But this kat was different. After arriving at my home I had several neighbors visit. Each neighbor commented on how big she was. Beautiful Gorgeous and Big. So I did some research and you guessed it! Fanci Meowington is indeed a Maine Coon and a Tortie to boot. I'm honored and proud to be her "hooman"
I have a 1/2 Maine Coon and 1/2 Tabby Persian. Giorgio has all the features except liking water. His mom (the Tabby Persian) hated water too. Giorgio does many tricks, listens to simple voice commands and follows hand commands. I am disabled now and lay on my waterbed to avoid pain. Giorgio rarely leaves my side. He rarely does anything wrong. He is not as large as a pure Maine Coon but larger then a standard house cat. He is now 8 years old. I will dread the day he crosses the rainbow bridge. He is a constant companion. I love our "conversations". He makes me laugh.
First thing I noticed about my part maine coon girl, but didn't know she was MC, 9 mo I adopted her from a rescue, she followed hand signals! She seemed like part dog. I taught her how to push open doors when they aren't fully shut. On #6 at the end, the cat to the right looks just like my girl. She hadmsuch a strange meow also, and chirps. Later I figured out she has MC in her. I checked with the rescue people I got her from and they confirmed she has MC.
I never have to worry about breeders taking my money because I can't understand going to a breeder in the first place with all the beautiful cats in shelters waiting to be adopted.
@@williardbillmore5713 There’s nothing wrong with going to a reputable breeder if you are wanting a particular pedigree cat. Maine Coons are not cheap, especially if you want a certain type. The high price will put those off who are not serious about cats. It’s those irresponsible owners who don’t get their cats done and end up with unwanted kittens which then go to any one which eventually end up in shelters
The grandkids rescued a kitten from getting run over. They brought him to me, as being in a large house and already having adult rescue cats. He's now about 7 months old. From all I've found on his appearance, he's at least appears to be part Maine Coon. He's already larger than my 17 year old calico female. I had an 17-18 year old male tabby who was as big as the kitten is now. He's still just a kitten and already 10 lbs. He has so many of the traits listed in your video. Thanks for sharing.
Well sometimes people cant because not capable with pets at home or I refuse to let my cats outside..Di not shame us good pet owners who keep pets until death
I got my Maine Coon for 300 2 years ago. She has become the greatest decision of my life. The bond they create and personality they have are amazinf. She’s about 16 lbs now
Just like the person who posted below, I too have a mixed breed Maine Coon (I think 50%), but those genes clearly dominated. He's a huge male who is about 14 months old and weighs 18 pounds already, still growing. He also has every one of the traits you describe, except he does meow on occasion. Usually he trills or chirps. He always greets me or announces his arrival in the room with a trill. His eyes might be slightly smaller than most Maine Coons too, I'm not sure. He was actually a rescue from a feral colony, his sire likely was someone's pet who mated with a feral female during an outdoor foray. Honestly I don't care if he's purebred or not, and I got him cheap because I fostered him and his four brothers, all were orange tabbies. He and one other had huge paws with tufts of fur between the pads. The other one ended up having medium length fur with swirling markings but his face looked the same as my cat. My boy always needed a mama so bad that I couldn't let him go, I wasn't sure anyone else would give him what he needed. He had actually been promised to someone else. I almost begged for him, I even offered the guy in charge of the fostering $800 for him, as opposed to the $150 that his foster volunteers normally have to pay, just enough to cover vet bills. He wouldn't take it, and he finally agreed to let me have him, but I sent him a few hundred extra anyway to help with saving other cats, I was so happy to get my Rory. I also kept the smallest shorthaired boy who is kind of a blonde color, my Theo. He's the sweetest cat I've ever met, and the smartest. He is half the size of Rory, but looks out for him like a big brother and is his best friend, they're so cute together.
My 10 month old kitten is definitely partly Maine Coon or Norwegian Forest cat. I compared him with all 10 points and he fit the lion's share. I am very happy about this. I purchased Issac at a cat rescue. ❤
Our MC...totally opposite, hates water except drinking, doesn't like too much fussing and only slightly loving at dinner time, mind you he was last in the queue to find a home...we love him anyway ❤
Oh how lovely. I rescued a black and white cat years ago, called him Harry. I’m sure he was a Maine Coon mixed breed. He was so so lovely, and would gently mouth my hand if he wanted fuss. I miss him so much.
I have 2 cats, 1 a rescue named Atticus, and my Cream Cameo Maine Coon Greg. They’re both good boys and affectionate cats, but Greg lives up to his heritage; follows me everywhere, cuddles next to me at night (or whenever I lay down) smart, vocal, gentle. He just turned 6 and there’s part of me that would love to get a smoke variation to contrast Greg, but I have reservations because I’m 62 and the 6 year age difference. They truly are a wonderful breed.
To be honest, I doubt the 6 year age gap would be an issue. We've often considered getting Pippin a Maine Coon playmate and he's just turned 9 years old!! This breed is uber chilled out and are not naturally territorial. They will need their own space, but actually like having companionship from other animals.
My maine coon was wild and avoidy in a kind gentle way. No hissing or growling when I got close..just kept a couple of feet between us. He kept many feet away from everyone else. Seemed to live in the woods. Would sit at the edge of my yard and watch me and I'd watch him back. Sweet but not close ever. Then on a freezing Feb night he knocked on my door. He came in and ate my female cats food and I kept filling it. He drank an entire bowl of water at one time. Went by the front door and just fell over. Slept for two days.the next evening he hopped on the sofa, gave a tiny mew and leaned against me. I took a pic and a rescue friend that's a maine coon. He almost covers my entire hand with his huge paw. He's the love of my life four years later.
@@kathymisuraca5047 Great Story!!! Loved the fact he slept for 2 days🥰 I do rescue and that has been my experience when a cat finally feels safe inside and with a contented belly, they finally relax into a much needed sleep. Grateful to you for answering the door when he finally decided he had enough of surviving outside!
I have also been informed, that Maine Coons have a shortish band of fur, from the front 1st leg over the shoulders and down the 2nd leg. I saw the parents of my kitten, Dad was deffo Persian, as for mum, she had Maine Coon traits. On our first vet visit, a nurse said ooow are you a maine coon, because our kitten has huge paws with the tufts. our kitty will turn 6months next week, yet she is the size of a large adult female already. TY for a very informative upload. oxoxox
I had an orange tabby I named Tiger. He lived to 20. He was 30 pounds in the end. He had all the traights of the Maine Coon except he had slightly shorter hair. He was at least 40% bigger than an average cat, he loved to take a bath, he was extreemely affectionate and vocal. He would great me when I came home from work.
Thank you, that’s super kind of you to say! I’ve got a website with even more detail about this fabulous cat breed, so take a look if you want to learn more: Https://www.mainecooncentral.com
When I feed my MC KITTEN I tell her sit at your table and she will run to where we feed her and sit while I place her dish down . So smart and so loving and very playful
My wife and I adopted a beautiful brown tortoiseshell female Maine Coon from an animal shelter in North Carolina. She was 4 years old and was turned into the shelter by her former owner's children after both the owners had died. Her name is "Angel", and that is exactly what she is ... an Angel! She sleeps with us, eats with us and sits with us constantly. Angel is one of the most intelligent, most loving beings we have ever met. She is a great room mate and a wonderful friend.
Thank you for adopting...seriously. All these beautiful cats alone waiting for a home in a shelter. I don't care if a breeder is reputable or not, we do not need them.
I have a part main, I had one pure breed years ago. This cat now I have, even the vet thinks he is . He is now over a year and weighs in at 17 pounds. I wish I could post a picture. He is so sweet and beautiful. Big huge baby . Black long hair and has his under coat. His face is so beautiful his paws are huge. I think he is regardless. Vet said he is. Glad I found him.
Part Maine Coons are just as amazing as the purebred Maine Coons. They share so many of the superb qualities of this breed, and looks. Both are great additions to any family, so you are very lucky to own one x
Mine was free, his mom abandoned him at my place i live out in the country. She was big. He was about a week old when he started meowing under my parked car. Hes now 2 body is about 20 inches his back is 15 hi weights about 18-19lbs. and trills all the time. and hes is a real hunter. he is an orange tabby doesn't have long, long fur but thick. Im not sure he's a pure bred but has almost all traits you speak of and will follow me around like a dog.
You have been very lucky to get a Maine Coon kitten for free, I envy you. Whether you have a part or full Maine Coon though, I’m sure your cat will have a wonderful personality. Take a look at this article I wrote, of might have more information for you: www.mainecooncentral.com/maine-coon-personality/
Maine Coons are direct descendents of Norwegian Forest cats diluted and interbred with a number of various domestic American breeds. Genome studies have proven this fact. I have had both a Maine Coon and a Norwegian...Their relationship is quite obvious.
That explains my confusion in trying to determine the mixes my shelter-rescued cats have. As I was listening to the traits I realized several overlapped. One is very much a weegie mix, with his webbbed toes, long hair and bright green eyes. Not to mention his propensity for trees and roofs. The other, with her wide, rounded green eyes, ear tufts, impenetrable undercoat, and chatters and squeaks, is obviously carrying some Maine Coon dna. I have questioned if there was a medical issue because she "talks" all the time, initiating conversations and demanding verbal responses.
My cousins have a huge MC that looks like a lynx. He likes to lounge around on top of the fridge. When they were selling their house, the realtor asked them to take the cat with them during showings because he scared the crap out of prospective buyers.
The fridge is a great high place, I guess! Our Maine Coons never been fussed about going up that high as he is spoilt and loves heated floors! 🤣 … scared the buyers?!!!! … what on earth did the cat do to scare humans?! 🤪
I love them so much. But it happened that I have two half Maine Coon and half bengal and they seem to have the best of both characteristics, they really exceptionally good company, I can't imagine my life without them
My husband picked up our new Maine Coon out of the road. He has all traits except ear tips. Pretty sure he's 25lbs or more. He acts more like a dog than a cat. He chases cars, his tail and other cats. But he does love making biscuits, which he's doing right now. He also will lick your skin off. He is 16in tall when he sits and 32in from nose to tail tip.
These cats are tall! My first one -- a Forest Cat maybe with some Maine Coon traits -- had forearms [what some folks call "front legs"] 8" long. His tail alone was exactly 12" long. You must stop him from chasing the cars.
Thank you for this video! We adopted 2 senior cats from a shelter, and we are thinking that George is a blue tuxedo Maine Coon or MC mix. He has almost all the characteristics, including the bigger size. The vet told us he needed to be 12 lbs since he was only 9 lbs, but he's at that weight now and he is still so skinny. That's why I watched your video. I think he needs to be 13-15 pounds, just so he's not so bony. I'm surprised the vet didn't notice...
Ours stayed at about 10 to 11 lbs. For his whole life (still alive at almost 18) and he is purebred! Eats like it's going out of style ... Just a slim boy!
My old Maine Coon, Sebastian, was from a reputable breeder with championship parents. We had to agree to neuter and not to breed before taking, which we agreed to and abided by. This was so long ago though he long since passed of old age. Very grumpy, aloof fluffy boy he was.
we have a gorgeous Maine Coon male that just appeared on our property, and watched my husband do yardwork for a coupl months. He finally wandered inside, and we tried to find his owner, but he wasn't chipped and we never could find where he came from. We weren't familiar with the breed but I confirmed he was a MC while searching big black cats with yellow eyes !😁 He has all the physical and personality traits, plays with the dog, our other 'torti point' cat, and loves to play soccer with me, with a small plastic caged ball with a bell inside. He never misses my passes and is a great ball 'trapper'. His leaps up onto tall furniture are mind boggling. They sure are affectionate cats !
I think my boy Sammich may be a main coon mix. Almost everyone comments on what a large animal he is and he loves the water! He will frequently try to join me in the shower and I can never leave the lid up on the commode or he will play in the water all day long! I've seen cats love to curl up in the sink but I have never seen one like this guy who curls up on the sink and then pause at the faucet until he gets the water to turn on and drip on him LOL he also has this massive amount of fur around his neck like from the middle of his ears down to the top of his shoulders and all the way around his neck not quite like a lion but certainly larger than any cat that I've had previous to this guy. He has giant paws and loves to be outside. He's a very affectionate to me and the three dogs that helped to raise him. He was from a litter of feral cats and the mother moved the litter but not this little guy. He had that eye disease that cats get and his eyes were matted up and he was at first unable to see anything at all! Well the three dogs and I took him home cleaned them up got him medicated and put him on a bottle and formula. I've been accused of having fed this cat too much formula that I feed him too much and that's why he is so big. Most long-haired cats when you pick them up there's this little tiny animal inside. But not Sammich! When you pick this guy up he's solid and he's not that! I am certain at this point he weighs in excess of 10 lb. In total his size is very large! He does have the links tip ears but not a black ring around his tail. He is certainly a mixed cat the mother was a domestic shorthaired Gray tabby. Everyone said they thought the father of these kittens was a bobcat! After having seen the cat that they think is the father I too think it is the father but I think that it is at least in large part A Maine coon! That cat looks like a black and white version of a standard Maine Coon cat! I guess with that a DNA test I will never know for sure
My daughter adopted a male Maine Coon when he was 10 months old we think…didn’t even know he was until she brought him home for Xmas break. I am the proudest grandma and I’ve had/have many cats…he’s literally one of the BEST cats I’ve ever known and my sweet angel female cat I rescued absolutely loves him and wonders where he is everyday because she took him back to college:( He is that light orange/white MC…ABSOLUTELY ADORE HIM!!! He is the sexiest cat on the planet!!! Wish I could post a picture and wish he was here with us…he LOVES my daughter SOO much…they both needed one another💕
I had a cat, though absolutely not pure bred had so much that he hit all but parts of 2 points. He was born with lynx tips, I knew nothing of Maine coons at the time, just thought the tips were really cool. He'd lost those as he grew older. I named him reality Weskit, British for vest, because while his fur was smooth in the vest area, he had a huge ruff like a lion and the rest of his coat was long and fluffy with beautiful curly fur on his tummy. He taught himself how to get his own treats out of the top drawer so I moved them to the bottom. How he figured out to go completely underneath the end table and push from the back to open the bottom drawer shows how incredibly intelligent he was. He'd get all excited, just like a dog when it was time to play fetch bouncing from paw to paw. He was ginourmous, I'd never had a cat that huge, I loved it. You really knew you had something that was totally delicate when you had him in your arms. They're great cats. As I said he wasn't purebred, his his mom was tuxedo American short hair I'd rescued. I'm not sure who his dad was. There were 2 long furred males who'd mated with her.
I think I may have a mixed breed Maine Coon who was a rescue kitten. And it's not just me! The rescue people said they thought he might have some Norwegian Forest genes. Vet 1 said he had Lynx eyes. Vet 2 { at 2nd Vaxx} grabbed him and ran around the practice showing him to everyone & asking; 'Don't you think he looks like a Maine Coon!?' Fynn is now 8 months old. He is a Black Silver Tabby Med/ Long hair - with that very cute white moustache on the upper lip. Has Lynx Ear Tufts - Lion Ruff - Huge Long Bushy Fluffy Tail - that is tabby on top & completely white underneath & Gold Eyes. He had digestive issues from the start , which had lots of tests for & couldn't ID anything except an enzyme imbalance. He has been on a special diet, so it has been a struggle to get the weight on him, but now starting to have normal motions & filling out. As a result he will probably never be a big chunky cat - but at this age is veeery long! His fur is the softest I've ever felt - including on my Persian and yes; I think it is semi-waterproof. He's mad about water, will lie in the sink & float his tail in the washup, try to turn the taps on & rides the mop as I'm washing the floors. He then dashes ahead of me back to the mop bucket & waits for the splash. I have to keep the toilet lids down or he will go swimming. He's VERY gentle & has taught my 15 month old other rescue kitten; Coco - finally! - to play with claws IN! Phew! Fynn is uber affectionate & smoochie. When he's not 'barnacled' to my side in bed - he's lying with the Spoodle & grooming him. Everything is for climbing. Yes - he does play fetch. He is also a 'Collector'. Has a secret 'stash' of goodies under the couch that I have to regularly retrieve. These objects include: sink plugs, bottle tops, pegs, toilet inner rolls, potatoes, onions, apples. I was going to say 'anything that rolls' - but it's just anything really; toothbrushes... The only thing missing from your list are the big fluffy feet - but then he is a mix of some sort. I call him my Mini-Maine and don't really care about pedigree so much as character - of which he has heaps! 😆👍
I have a beautiful tuxedo female who is turning 21 in August. She hits all of the points & people always comment on how big, tall& smart she is. I also had a Main Coon long before they were recognized or popular. She looked like your Pippin.
thank you! my husband and i are getting into breeding and I'm collecting videos to send my husband. I'm on research. it's such a well made video i think you should be proud :)
We just adopted a rescue kitten and we suspect his dad may have been a maine coon. His mom was a normal house cat, but he is growing massive and has a lot of the maine coon traits! He's soooo cute! If you get a maine coon, consider getting a rescue!
great video - we got a mix with strong maine coon, kitten off a farm locally - at 6 months old she annoyed the crap out of my wife because she learned how to turn the airconditioner on and off - wife watched her jump up and accidently start the unit and then spend the next 20 minutes methodically touching the top of the AC until she found the magic spot, and then go nuts turning it on and off. A lot of your video described her perfectly
I'm sure Sheba is a Maine Coon. She had the Lynx tips when she was a kitten but they went away. She does have the long bushy tail, large furry paws, at a year old she weighs about 13 pounds, everyone looks at her and says she's huge for a cat. Some people from a distance thought she was a dog. She's always trying to get in the shower.
We have a lot of feral cats and some of them look like the Maine Coon cats or even mix. They have the traits you are talking about. I'm glad I stopped in on your channel. I look forward to seeing more.
Lynx tips, is that what they're called.....? That's good to know, I kept telling everybody I thought it was a troll doll trying to get out. I guess I should stop telling people that now.... LMAO JK XD
Jimmie has ever characteristic of a Maine coone except lynx ears. He weighs almost 40 pounds. His tail I can use as a walking stick. And his paws are enormous. I can hear him coming from upstairs when he walks. His fur is absolutely gorgeous thicker in the back. He just purrs and is a Mama's boy. When I got him I thought he was near sighted and I thought he was Persian but he just kept growing and growing. His eyes are gold. He is very loving ❣️
I found my boy, Wiley, at a day old in a dumpster. I bottle fed him and raised him and he's the most wonderful cat. I constantly get questions as to if he's a maine coon and I used to say "no, he's just a dumpster cat" but I swear...he has the face, the ears, the tail, the vocalizations....it's just wild to me because he was found in a dumpster! He's 8 months old and he's 8lbs!!! He had FIP when he was younger so he's absolutely stunted in his growth but gosh, he's huge. I genuinely believe he's a maine coon.
I have a very hairy rescue cat, grey with a mane, very thick long fur huge face tufted big feet and 8.5kg but no linx tips. Still he's very sweet and wonderful meow.
Your lovely cat might be a Maine Coon, or at the very least a half Maine Coon. Half Maine Coons often share many of the personality traits of the purebreds, and are known to be amazing too. Did you know though, not all Maine Coons have lynx tips? Read my article to learn more: www.mainecooncentral.com/do-all-maine-coons-have-lynx-tips/
We rescued 2 kittens who were found in the wall of an abandoned house across the country from us. We drove 20 hrs to pick up these little things that were under 2lbs and covered in fleas. We thought they were Hemingway cats. We were wrong lol. They're 5mos old now and little boy is 9lbs and little girl is 7. Our boy has the biggest ribcage I've ever seen on a cat. We have 2 17yr old Norwegian forest cats and little boy is the size of our older female. They'll jump in the shower with you, carry toys around, chirp and trill instead of meow, and wag their tails when happy, like a dog lol
Our cat fits everything in this video except liking water. I’m not sure about the coat though. He was a stray that we found outside and took in. He is EXTREMELY fluffy
I bottle fed two Maine Coon mixes who were found by their deceased mother. One was larger but short haired whilst the other was long haired. Both had the body type and growth cycle with them reaching full growth about age four.
I knew my cat is a Maine coon but the shelter I got her from she’s just a medium hair cat ..she has the long bushy tail thick fur fur in her paws huge paws and she is physically larger everyone asks why is she so big and she’s not over weight she loves water and her fur repellents water and she doesn’t mind a bath ever her eyes are large she barely ever meows she chirps when I get home or meows that’s the only time she really meows is when I get home she is super chill love my coon baby 🥰😍🥰😍🐈⬛😻
We had a cat adopt us in June while my husband was in the hosp. He cried under my window for 5 nights in a row until I FINALLY gave in and FED him just to SHUT HIM UP... Since then he hasn't said a word.... He appears to have all the markings and PERSONALITY traits YOUVE MENTIONED.... He's now roughly about 9 months old and will come in the House, WALK AROUND. as if inspecting everything to make sure it's SAFE for my HUSBAND to stay after he comes home FROM WORK, Informs us when inspection is over its NOW time for "HIS" Dinner, and insists on being released AGAIN OUTSIDE even THOU he REALLY WASNT INVITED IN IN THE 1ST PLACE!.... HE LOVES PLAYING WITH OUR 2 DOGS.... A STANDARD POMERANIAN (15yrs he is not a purse dog and would be EXTREMELY offended if you TRIED... BESIDES it would have to be 1 DAMN BIG Purse!) and a Chihuahua (8yrs)she's not overly impressed...
My female cat hated the addition of this boy. She pretty much hates everything, but this boy is nice to her anyway. She hisses. He just ignores her evil ways lol. Pisses her off
Thank you. I'm going to definitely ask our veterinarian on the first visit if T S Trouble is a Maine Coon. I have suspected it and watching him grow noting his intelligence and how he has already learned tricks and commands and seeing the other clues in your video that provided the other information. I thought his ability to meow was broken LOL he is just different and he is so smart! And he enjoys playing more than the normal average time of other cats lol
My boy, Einstein is a Ragdoll x Maine Coon, not huge but plenty big enough, with a tail so long that he carries it in a similar way to a Siberian husky. And he has Ragdoll ears. He's also extremely vocal. Love him to bits ❤
Thank you for sharing this, I am actually excited cause I’m about to adopt two Maine Coon kittens. Now I know that they’re not pure breed as the owner has already stated it’s a mix of Maine Coon & Persian. They kinda looked like the kitten at 9:37 . Initially I asked the owner the price she’s selling them but to my surprise she was actually giving them out for adoption I was so happy! now I can jst spend the budget Im saving for their supplies instead. I still can’t believe that she’s giving them out on adoption without any fees! cos before that I looked around for Main Coonkittens and they’re sold for $300 even for mixed breed. Initially I was going for a British Short Hair but changed my mind once I read that Maine Coon & Ragdolls makes the best family cat & are very social. She’s letting me adopt them next month and I’m looking forward to it 🤗
Mine are not pure bred but they are definitely part. They have the linx ears. The boy cat has the fluffy long tail, lion mane, big paws with the tufts but he hates being bathed. Loves to lay on my chest and get his head and ears massaged. Also when he lays next to me he puts his head on my shoulder and his arm and paw on top of my upper arm like he’s holding on to me. It’s so cute. 😊 the girl cat is a short hair but she has the linx ears and loves to drink from the faucet. Super smart and more of a hunter than the boy.
I adopted a mix breed i think he defenetly looks like a Maine coon though he's just a little smaller than a pure bread and hates water despite his fur being semi repellent of it.
I Have a man coon cat that I found in a ditch after a rainstorm. She was just a tiny kitten all branched with rain. Now she’s 16 years old and she’s been my buddy all those years. She’s very pretty but she’s lost some weight in the last year or two I guess because of her age. She still very healthy and fits all the characteristics that you list she even had the tips on her ears until she got older now they’re gone.
I have been blessed with a very Handsome Man ( BOOGER ) he is 5 yrs old 22 lbs of nothing but LOVE , Joy , Cuddles & he has made me laugh every single day . he high fives , fetches , opens doors and always greats everyone he meets. These are by far the best cats ever .
I have had two extremely fluffy cats, Sunny had Maine Coon traits was a tabby, fabulous collar and tail, lynx tips, very hairy pads, never bothered by the cold or snow. It took him a long time to learn to purr, but would tweet. Sadly we lost him some years ago. Our other fluffy was a pure black Angora cat, Bisto, he again had many Maine Coon traits. I’m sure that the MC genes can be found in many cats. Btw our two were rescues as kittens…

I loved the way your cat, Pippin acts toward you. I'm a cat lover since I was a kid. I just subscribed and I hope to see more of Pippin.
This is beautiful to hear😻🐱🐾
There is no such thing as a pure Maine Coon. They are a combination of several breeds that always includes Norwegians. All Maine Coons are mixes.
Genome studies have proven it.
"Pedigrees can be faked and invented. Genome analysis can not.
I got my Maine coon at a shelter 10 yrs ago and love it dearly. 30 kittens were there and he picked me two days in a row and melted my heart ! He is huge, funny and smart. I call him my Cadog. Ginger, 34" long and 19 pounds ! When he gets in your lap you know it !
This is beautiful, thank you for sharing🐾🐱
A daily shower?!
Cannot mix raccoon and feline species.
Lol.. mine does as well, I read they use their paws for eating.. this guy never ceases to amaze me ..
Stormy is an awesome name! She's lucky to have you!
We also call our Pippin the family dog :)
Not all Maine Coons have Lynx tips. Take a look at this article I wrote:
www.mainecooncentral.com/do-all-maine-coons-have-lynx-tips/
Aww what a wonderful story. I am so sorry for your loss. This new kitty will help you to heal. It must have been meant to be you found her.
Thank you for sharing your AMAZING story!
My parents acquired 2 mane coon cats in succession. They were both female, black and white and strays that just showed up at their house. Both were very lovely cats.
Sounds like you rescued and adopted each other.
Very interesting indeed! Thanks! 😊
We adopted a kitten last year...
Soooo true!!
Very smart.
How wonderful😊🐱😻
I love My Jakuta, as he is the God of thunder when he walks. Loving and beautiful, sociable and animated. He is the best cat, ever.
I always laugh when I see my cats furry toes, the hair that sticks out from in between them is so long but so cute ❤️❤️❤️
I have mixed breed Maine coon too, very similar comments as you. She’s great, love the breed. 🌹❤️❤️
You’re so blessed to get to live with even a mixed-breed Maine Coon.
We have a mutt that sounds just like her. ❤️😻❤️
What my cat sounds exactly like yours!
Very intelligent cat... our Maine shakes, sits and plays fetch. Overall ... one of the best breeds for families. Thx for sharing. 😻
My Wonder-Girl does the same thing! She trained SO easily. She also 'kisses' when I ask! How did we get so fortunate to discover such a lovely breed?
Sometimes the world works in mysterious way’s… you’ve been blessed with another best friend. It’s beyond difficult losing a beloved pet…( I’ve been through it to many time’s) but your giving that homeless Maine Coon a forever loving home. That’s something to be proud of… thank you for taking her in. ❤
My big boy, never meowed. He chirps, but not loud. He also tries to open bedroom doors. He succeeded most times.
Thrown out of a truck at several weeks old!😱
One girl, one boy.
You did an amazing thing saving them! Some people don't deserve animals! 😢 Bless you, always here to help🥰🐾
This is so lovely🤩
My Mom had a wonderful Maine Coon named Lilly. The grands named her Grandma Kitty. My cat, Steve is half Maine Coon. He has all the traits, but he does meow, not often but on occasion. I love him anyway.
My MC definitely meows, as well as trills and chirps.
He does have two downsides: Needs outdoor time every day, and continuously sheds lots of fur.
Apart from that they are lovely laid back cats. 🙂
My MC meows too, along with a bunch of other little and big sounds, he is such a sweet boy too (1 yrs old red MC).
I love it when my kitten greets me with a chirp...I just chirp back
Recently adopted a kat from my favorite no-kill shelter.
One of my clients has one the color of a golden lab. Extremely long
Fun to watch it play with their golden lab
I have always loved Maine Coon cats. I had one MC mix, and he was wonderful. Sure miss him. He had a beautiful face, beautiful personality.
Thank you for sharing your experience🐾🐱💙
I never have to worry about breeders taking my money because I can't understand going to a breeder in the first place with all the beautiful cats in shelters waiting to be adopted.
Thank you Diana🐾🐱
A fool and his money are always soon separated. Shelter cats make the best pets.
I had suspicions that I had a Maine Coon cat. Now I know for sure that I do. Thank you for clarifying this once and for all.
I got my Maine Coon for 300 2 years ago. She has become the greatest decision of my life. The bond they create and personality they have are amazinf. She’s about 16 lbs now
Thats a very good deal
Thank you for sharing your experience!🐱
Oh how lovely. I rescued a black and white cat years ago, called him Harry. I’m sure he was a Maine Coon mixed breed. He was so so lovely, and would gently mouth my hand if he wanted fuss. I miss him so much.
😻😻😻😻
Mine headbutts my legs in the morning. Wants love before food. He's such a lover.
See? I can't shut up about him because he's so sweet
@@deejungk828 oh he's my love. Made me feel so honored.
TY for a very informative upload. oxoxox
i own two and the characteristics are spot on
All the Maine Coon cats I have owned and own now which is two were free. I love them both dearly.
Oh my word, that’s amazing! You are one very lucky lady 😻
Lost my black Maine coon "barnee" a couple years ago. Miss him every day. Great cat breed...
Oh no, I am really sorry to hear this😢 Maine Coon's definitely are an amazing cat breed🐾🥰💙
Thank you for sharing your experience🐱🥰
What an absolutely fascinating vlog! Thanks for sharing this, it's pawesome!
Thank you, that’s super kind of you to say! I’ve got a website with even more detail about this fabulous cat breed, so take a look if you want to learn more:

Lovely story - happiness all round!
I am almost positive I just rescued a Maine coon. I already thought that by her features, but after watching this I am 99% sure.
Adorable🐱🤩
Main Coons are such lovers. Got mine 22 months ago. He had his tail broke and was starving in December. Came to my house to live.
Oh bless, you did a good thing taking him in🐾🐾
I have a part main, I had one pure breed years ago.
Take a look at this article I wrote, of might have more information for you:
www.mainecooncentral.com/maine-coon-personality/
… scared the buyers?!!!! … what on earth did the cat do to scare humans?! 🤪
@@MaineCoonCentral He lurked! Lol
lol people are scared of my boy Sammich!
Pretty spot on...My buddy "Snoopy" is such a treasure...
Did you try weight gain paste? Or high calorie food?
What an amazing story, you are so lucky to have a Maine Coon cat just decide to come and live with you!! ❤️😍😘

Thanks, we think so too! 🙂
Wish I could post a picture and wish he was here with us…he LOVES my daughter SOO much…they both needed one another💕
Beautiful green eyes she’s white underneath n loves taking pictures
Cats very wonderful and very beautiful colour and very happy 🐈😻👌👌👌
OMG, my cat chirps at me. I thought she was a little weirdo until I watched this video! Thank you!
Thank you so much for your kindness😻🐱🥹
LMAO JK XD
Rescued a part Maine coon .. loved him. Now I have two Maine Coon kittens from a reputable breeder. They are fabulous cats 😢!!!!
My Maine Coon Argyle loves to play catch. He enjoys the chase and loves to run back for scritches.
Aw this is lovely🥰
Thanks for sharing. Great video! I’m off to get myself a Maincoon! Xx
I now understand why my vet was astonished at my little girls weight as she is 14 lbs and not full Maine coon.
I love mine he is so loving only on his terms. Big kitty huge Geno
How to tell: It's very large, very furry, and you can do a simple DNA test : )
We had a cat adopt us in June while my husband was in the hosp. He cried under my window for 5 nights in a row until I FINALLY gave in and FED him just to SHUT HIM UP... Since then he hasn't said a word.... He appears to have all the markings and PERSONALITY traits YOUVE MENTIONED.... He's now roughly about 9 months old and will come in the House, WALK AROUND. as if inspecting everything to make sure it's SAFE for my HUSBAND to stay after he comes home FROM WORK,
Informs us when inspection is over its NOW time for "HIS" Dinner, and insists on being released AGAIN OUTSIDE even THOU he REALLY WASNT INVITED IN IN THE 1ST PLACE!....
I have a 4 month old Maine Coon kitten and she definitely has all these traits.
Thank you for sharing🐱🐾
She’s letting me adopt them next month and I’m looking forward to it 🤗
Absolutely great!
Thank you Terry🐾😻
My daughter had one that made 18-19 yrs, quit a cat, totally different than run of toe mill cats, neat cat in the long run
Thank you for sharing your experience🐱🐾😊
I Have a man coon cat that I found in a ditch after a rainstorm. She was just a tiny kitten all branched with rain. Now she’s 16 years old and she’s been my buddy all those years. She’s very pretty but she’s lost some weight in the last year or two I guess because of her age. She still very healthy and fits all the characteristics that you list she even had the tips on her ears until she got older now they’re gone.
Have you taken her to see a vet about the weight lessons? Sounds like she could have a thyroid issue & a vet can help that issue.
Two of my kittens have the lynx tips.
My cat takes my yarn to play if I’m not home lol she speaks to me only when she wants something
i have a female purebred with pedigree .She is just over a year old and is 6.3 kg.
She is the most loving cat i have owned on the last 20 years.
Very informative! Thank you
GREAT INFORMATION, THIS HELPS ME TO FIND MY FUTURE MAINE COON CAT!
