Dead Raritan Mall in Raritan, NJ

  • I filmed the abandoned Stop & Shop & Drug Fair here back in July 2020 but didn’t film the rest of the shopping plaza. I came back to revisit the place and it just looks depressing, with only 2 businesses open here. I’m pretty sure back in the 90’s/early 00’s it was doing a whole lot better.

      @@TimurD1905 since the clock hands are permanently stuck in a certain position, the clock will be right twice a day, once during that time in the AM, and during the PM

    We lived in Somerville from 2007 to 2017. That large area across the mall was a golf driving range where people used to flock there in order to hone up on their golf skills. The reason why a lot of those stores & businesses closed is due to flooding issues with the Raritan Valley River. We used to see flooding whenever there was a storm, especially since Hurricanes Sandy & Irene.

      Ah I see why, makes sense. Do you think they will renovate this place though?

      @@TimurD1905 a few years ago, Trader Joes was considering that space before they settled on Bridgewater where Costco and the TD ballpark is, but I think the deal fell through for some reason. Even a Chick fil A and Wawa were supposed to go in across from where Wegmans is in Bridgewater on rt 202 and that fell through.
      I guess if they do ever demolish the building, they're going to have to build up that land to avoid future floods. Give it time, I'm sure there'll be more condos or apartments in that space. NJ can't help itself. Anywhere there's a piece of land.

    Not 100% but the layout reminded me of Channel Lumber back in the 70's if it is off the Somerville Circle just a little bit down aways, it also had a liquior store. But stand to be corrected. Drug Fair also owned Cost Cutters which was in other States. Enjoyed your videos as always.

    I used to go here when it was a Foodtown supermarket in the 1980s and early 1990s. They used to give free coffee and cookies as soon as you walked in the store. The good old days. Wasn't crazy about the Stop & Shop that replaced it though. I think Muscle Maker Grille was in that mall for a few years too before that franchise started closing up locations in NJ.

    • @TimurD1905
      @TimurD1905  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like Foodtown more than Stop & Shop. There's only 10 Foodtown locations left in NJ, compared to way more than there was back in the day. I remember back in the 90's there was also a Foodtown in Boonton, NJ that later converted into a Kings Food Market. I miss that Foodtown, good old days like you said!
