  • This work is being done on a 1998 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4 with a 3.4L V6 engine.
    In this video I replace the valve cover gaskets, cam plugs, half-moons, spark plug tube seals, PCV valve with grommet, intake manifold gaskets, and the valve cover bolt washers.
    This will fix the very common oil leak points from the valve covers on this particular engine.

    The parts I used for this particular application:
    Toyota part # Name Quantity

    Thank you! Watched this video 4-5 times, ordered all the parts on the list plus the IAC coolant hoses, took pictures before I started and gave myself a full Saturday. Started 8:30am, finished 5:30pm 1st time doing this job. Small bright flashlight, cardboard drilled w/ holes to hold plenum fasteners. Next time maybe I soak the valve covers overnight in solvent, plus the throttle body got cleaned. Thanks again.

    Just wanted to share. It's been one year since I did these valve covers, and they have zero leaks whatsoever. I was concerned about the placement of the FIPG sealant at first, but I followed Toyota's recommendations, and it's worked great.

      Thanks for taking the time to share this video. I did mine at the beginning of this year and everything is looking great after 8-9 months. Saved me thousands too

    Thank you especially for torque specs and note about sealant time. Camera work is pretty cool as well. The only thing I learned from other videos is how to apply sealant in all those “corners”. Watching as many videos as I can find before starting this service.

    The engine bay looks slick🔥 I’ve been wanting to do the same for both my first gen yotas as well. Where did you find your blue vacuum lines if you don’t mind me asking? Love the vid!

    What method did you use to clean the valve covers? Last time I did this job the rough aluminum surface would not scrub clean.

    • @AVI80R907
      @AVI80R907  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I used brakleen, but I could not get them as clean as I wanted. Maybe an aluminum cleaner would work after using brakleen.

    Is there a parts kit for this job, or did you buy all individual parts? Thank you

    • @AVI80R907
      @AVI80R907  ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought them individually, as I wanted original Toyota parts. There are aftermarket kits, but they don't include everything you'd want to replace at the same time as the gaskets.

    How long did the whole process take?

    • @AVI80R907
      @AVI80R907  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It took me about 10 hours total, and I was not in a hurry. I spent a lot of that time cleaning the valve covers and other parts before reassembly. I'd give yourself an uninterrupted weekend to do this job for the first time.

    As soon as I saw the worm drive hose clamps on the radiator hoses I knew this was the wrong video to watch.

    • @AVI80R907
      @AVI80R907  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Radiator hose clamps have nothing to do with a valve cover replacement on the 5VZ.
