It was the same in Denmark. One joke was that you could double the value of a Skoda by adding a marsbar to the gloveboks. A modern skoda is worth quite a lot of marsbars.

As a mechanic, I don't see a lot of Skoda cars in our service shop except yearly maintenance. They are basically a bit wider and longer version of Volkswagen, everything in these cars is Volkswagen parts, but still they are much more reliable and better build quality for much better price. Skoda are amazing.
Speaking as a Skoda Superb driver, I can't help but acknowledge, after stepping out of an Audi A6 today, why Audis come with a higher price tag. Skoda provides excellent value for money, no question about it, but the interior and overall design of its Volkswagen counterpart are leagues ahead - a fact that one must admit without any hint of envy.
Its actualy lots of VW branded parts, that SKODA engineered and manufacured for the concern unified platforms. This also goes for the engine RaD and many many other parts of the cars. As for now it is actualy almost impossible to tell what part was made where inside of the concern of VW, SKODA as both are intertwined a lot. Kind of a joke is that SKODA is realy expensive for Czech people in last few years. Its probably cheaper to buy SKODA in Germany than in Czech. republic. As reliability goes SKODA OCTAVIA I was a champion in that. I own one from year 2001, it still goes quite well, and have fuel consumption around 5L/100km of diesel and have over 500k km and the clock, that car will rust to dust sooner than that engine would fail. Modern skodas, are reliable mechanicaly, but electronics is entirely different story...
I inherited an almost new Skoda Fabia. Brilliant little runabout. Had it for almost five years and it cost me one set of tires, a yearly service - and one fuse, £1.50. Skoda has an interesting history, goes way back to the 1920s and was a very premium brand . They took over Hispano Suiza which has to be the swankiest car brand name ever.
Skodas are really popular in Finland. But the logo is very well known here in Helsinki due to it also being on each end of all of the public transport trams.
yes, but you know the skoda trams are from a different company. It comes from Škoda Plzeň (it will be quite soon renamed), which makes trams, trolleybuses, train units and ĺarge electrical components.
@@CMDRSurtkuku Škoda Plzeň is the name of the factory. The company is called Škoda Transportation. And trams for Finland are made by subsidiary Škoda Transtech in Finland.

Hi Ian from czechia once again. About the badges Škoda uses on it's models, RS indeed are 'sporty' and performance focused trims of higher models such as Octavia, Superb or Kodiaq. For smaller and cheaper models they used Monte Carlo badge, although it used to be more of a design pack for car than any great performance upgrades. There's also top tier luxury variant for most of its models called Laurin&Klement which is named after the factory founders in Mladá Boleslav, hometown for Škoda. About 4x4, as far as I know Škoda is using Haldex AWD systems, same as in vw group, with rear wheel always powered. Btw Octavia isn't sedan but a liftback, meaning the rear window opens with trunk, giving u much more access space. And Superb is the biggest model except SUVs. I recommend you to search up for some Škoda features named, same as brand slogan, Simply Clever. Ice scrub hidden in fuel lid is my favourite. Love from Czechia ❤
Also, 2nd gen Superb has twin boot, meaning the boot can be open both as liftback and as saloon th-cam.com/video/KJZ5IgzI6xo/w-d-xo.html Newer Škoda's also have umbrella in the front door like the Rolls Royce (but small compact umbrella instead of normal big one)
We all laughed at Skoda when I was a young gun. No one would own a Skoda! I think Skoda taught us all a lesson with their rally heritage. I’d be happy to be seen in a Skoda.
Dad had a 110 R in about 1977 was fit for nothing except the scrapheap after 10k miles, cracked fly wheel, broken exhaust manifold. When they painted it at the factory they sprayed over the fuel tank vent and the tank collapsed. Had 4 new since 2005 all been great cars. Wish I'd hung on to the Fabia vRS SE (003) went like shit off a stick.
@@coqzilla3811 Nope. During the Soviet / Russian occupancy Skoda engineers despite all the government obstacles created several modern prototypes. But everything of that was later banned by Moscow as the Russian cars (Ladas and Volgas ... not really their - just easternized licenced western copies) had to be considered as the best in the eastern block. Thus Skoda or the Eastern German Wartburg were forced to make just a cheaper simpler design - not because they didn´t know how to make a better ones. If Skoda engineers had the chance to work in a democratic regime like three decades before the Soviets took over Czechoslovakia in 1948 they surely would be able to keep up with the modern world. Brands like Tatra, Skoda, JAWA used to be considered quite progressive in their pre-kommunist time.
@@coqzilla3811 LOL cretin, shows what you know. Actually Škoda was very progressive under prewar normal capitalist economic system and after the fall of communism when Volkswagen bought it, it has the biggest autonomy of the whole Group, sometimes even to the displeasure of the guys in Duisburg (it bit quite substantially into the sales of SEAT in some segments in the early 2000s for example).

Skoda are very long established brand in the Czech Republic, predating ww2. They also had a heavy vehicle division before WW2 and made some fairly good tanks for the Czech military, 2 types of which were taken over by the Wehrmacht and used during WW2, One was the T-35 which supplented the Panzer 2 and one was the T-38, which was later adapted by the Germans into the Hetzer Assault gun and Tank Destroyer. The Hetzer was probably the most successful Ta k Destroyer as it was small, low and packed a high velocity 75mm gun. The Original T-38 had a 37mm cannon.
Indeed, the Czech building vehicles for the Germans has a long and fruitful tradition. Even in East Germany, Skoda cars were well regarded. Certainly one step above the Trabant, and on par with a Wartburg. 😂
Tanks Škoda was dont Made by Škoda Mladá Boleslav but Škodovy závody Plzeň. That is another company. Škoda Plzeň made for Wehrmacht 88mm canone. Panzerkampfwagen 38t was build in company PRAGA for czechoslovak army code LT vz.38. Contstucteur was ALEXEJ SURIN. During the occupation of Czechoslovakia, the tank was included in the armament of the Wehrmacht. The Hetzer was made in the PRAGA factory too.ALEXEJ SURIN delibaretly designed it to be heavier on the front and thus unbalanced. During the communist court proces he was branded as traitor of Czeschoslovak people, but was freed. Škoda Plzeň ony produced the Hetzer tank.
The New Zealand police have gone with the Skoda Superb wagons since Holden's closure. Seeing more and more of them as the Holdens reach their replacement age.
Nowadays they are just another option from Volkswagen. What me fascinates about the company, that they have been around for so long, there are steam locomotives with the Škoda logo on the side. Also, you can find a lot of trams and modern trains by Škoda driving around in Czechia.
While Škoda is part of the Volkswagen Group, they are using the Volkswagen modular system MQB pretty freely (In the case of the 2023 Škoda Octavia, it's the MQB evo). The Škoda version is usually larger than the other Volkswagen Group counterparts. It is also often the budget variant, while still maintaining the quality. That's why many European companies opt for Škoda for their fleets. And that's why the station wagons are very popular -- for the field service technicians and the salesmen it is roomy enough to haul their stuff while at the same time has a low fuel consumption to keep the travel costs in check.
cars and industrial products are different Skoda. The company split a long time ago. Now its two different companies with different logo, but almost the same name containing "Skoda".
Many years ago I had the original Octavia vRS. It was a 2002. Skoda was building its reputation back then in the UK and I can honestly say they did a great job. The dealers were on the small side, but amazing. Knowledge for the cars, pricing and customer service was second to none, even compared to the premium brands like BMW. The car itself was totally reliable and quick too (180bhp standard, a bit more after I had mine mapped). A few police forces bought Octavia vRS's due to their speed and huge boot and of course all the taxi firms bought the diesels which ran forever. When I traded my car in for a BMW, the dealer took it out for a spin and came back with a huge smile on his face. Having never driven a Skoda before he was grinning like a cheshire cat and just said "well, I wasn't expecting that!". Sums Skoda up perfectly. They fully deserve where they are now.
I am from Germany, I own my second Octavia Scout, iII. gen. (the one you looked at is the newer Generation, the IV). The one I own currently has the 2 Liter 184 hp Diesel engine with DSG Automatic. Scout is a version that has 4WD (or AWD, don‘t know the correct designation), is a little bit higher for rough roads. And of course a Combi (wagon). BTW in Germany I would say more than 90% of the Octavias are wagons, Saloons are very rare. My former one was a Scout too, but with the 2 Liter 150 hp Diesel and manual gear. Both great cars. BTW at least in Germany many former VW customers changed to Skoda, even big companies - comparable if not better solutions and performance, but cheaper. Skoda is the largest importer of cars in Germany - and was so for years.
I once saw a Video where they tried to get as much distance out of one Tank filling as possible with a diesel superb. They where obviously very slow on the Autobahn but they got just over 2k Kilometers with 60 liters of diesel. It was roughly 3,5 l per 100 km or 80.7 miles per galon. Pretty impressive i think
@@IWrocker Theres a old joke that after certain mileage driven in the old Skoda Octavia 1.9TDI, the car instead of running on diesel, starts producing it. :D :D
Every year in September there is an event in Skoda's hometown called the Economy Run, which is basically a race between amateur racers. But to win you have to have the best gas/diesel mileage. The best diesel last year had just under 100 miles per gallon (2.42 l/100km). Impressive
@@IWrocker I once did even 2,9L/100km on highway in my parents 1st gen Škoda Octavia with 1,9L TDi (66kw). I have Octavias little brother Fabia. Nothing to complain about. Had it for 3 years. Its a 2017 model. (I live in Sweden and Skoda is really big here).
An interesting thing about Skoda is, they are basically Audis or VWs but cheaper. I've talked to people living close to the border with the Czech Republic and they told me if you want to own an Audi or a VW you better buy a Skoda. It's basically the same thing but car thieves will not steal it. So it became very popular in those regions of Germany.
Octavia is most used car in our country or was few year ago..dunno statistics. But older models were stolen the most. more people have it, more people needed spare parts or own new car
well basically cheap version of VW as VW own them, they dont have anything to do with audis because audis sub brand is Seat and cupra, hence the Skodas have VW dials and Seat has audi dials.
Skoda is great value for the money spent in my opinion. I have a Kodiak “sportline” since 2019 and the only complaint is the sound level in the car when driving, but considering the price it is a very good car especially for me since I am 196 cm tall (6”5), and LOVE the easy entry (you don’t feel like you sit down on the floor) and also the extra space for the head and legs. I also like features like the umbrellas in the front doors and that you can take out the light fixture from the boot and use it as a flashlight when needed!
My brother has a 2007 saloon version in blue. It has a 2 litre diesel, which puts out 180hp and a 6- speed manual gearbox. The first time I was in the car with him, he put the into second gear and floored it, the acceleration was phenomenal, nothing like you’d expect from a Diesel engine. Almost since VW took over and started sharing engines with Skoda, Skoda were setting up the engines in all thier cars in such a way that Skoda were getting better performance and reliability than VW were from the same engines, and that really annoyed VW
I own a 2014 model VRS Combi in diesel. Has a more powerful 2.0l diesel unit carried over from the Golf GTD. These are basically a Golf GTI in Skoda clothes and a few different features. I generally go for weirder versions and this doesn't disappoint. Nearly 10yrs old and drives, feels and looks like a new car. The diesel is a quick little engine with plenty of torque and sips fuel. Great mileage and heaps of go. Not as quick as the petrol version, but not too far off.
When I lived in Scotland, the Octavia was the car of choice for taxis. If you keep it serviced the engine will run for ever. On another note, I’ve started seeing a new American on the road here in western Sydney. The Toyota Tundra. I was surprised at just how much bigger it was than a hilux
Its a VW Golf under the hood. In Germany this is the more practical and cheaper choice than a Golf (Station Wagon). Enterprise Car Fleets also get those often, but in basic configuration. The one in this Video is based on Golf GTI/GTD.
My first car was a 1984 Skoda 120L, and it did NOT look like that! 🤣 The engine was in the rear and the cooler in the front, so it took 10 gallon of water for every gallon of fuel!
Mine was an orange 1987 130 Rapid. I can confirm that the water to fuel ratio is correct. Drove everywhere with two big bottles of water in the front boot..froot. Loved that car.
Well, don't be surprised. All the cars from the Škoda 742 series (Škoda 105, 120, 125, 130) were plagued by all the problems of the failing communist central planning economic system. Due to policital meddling and extreme lack of funding they had to build this on the chasis and drivetrain (including the engine at the back) from the previous and totally obsolete Škoda 100/105 (or to be more exact Škoda 1000MB, which was in production since 1964!). Thus it was prone to oversteering, the engine had a lot of reliability issues and wore out quickly. Due to use of cheap materials and obsolete production techniques the car body was prone to rusting in certain places. The design made the car look strangery cheap and almost "amateurish" I would say. Luckily after the fall of communism Škoda was allowed to flourish and to regain part of its pre-WWII renown.
@@CzechMirco I didn’t have any reliability issues with my other two rear-engined Škodas. As for rust, I thought they were pretty resilient, certainly compared to Western cars of a similar age. They were certainly made with thick enough steel, and screwed together well. Sure, the interior was cheap, the styling dated, and the engineering a little primitive, but they were good cars for the little money they cost. They were miles ahead of the Soviet and Polish competitors in every way, and don’t forget that at the same time, you could still buy a Renault R4, a 2CV or Mini, none of which were much more advanced.
Škoda in The 70s were a laugh and had a string of jokes culture around them, such as “how do you double the price of a Skoda” Fill the petrol tank 😂 or “what do you call a Skoda cabrio” a Skip 😂😂 Then VW bought them out in 91 and changed there fate around to become an excellent well priced car, good quality. In Madrid 90% of the taxis just a few years ago we’re Skoda Superb, which says a lot on quality and reliability
My family has got ŠKODA OCTAVIA COMBI 1,9TDI... but it's 20 years old and still rides like a new one. 1,9TDI is the engine for a million km and there are škodas who did it
"Never knew this brand at all"... I would expect petrolheads to know that Skoda is one of the oldest car brands in the world... Also known in the begining as Laurin & Klement... Try googling new Skodas in "Laurin & Klement" trim... Also, Skoda was soooo good before WW2 that even Germans used Skoda cars during the war... Rommel had Škoda Superb Kfz 21 as his command car in Africa during WW2... and... last but not least... Czech Republic also had car brand Tatra (you must check their models before WW2)... that was direct influence on Ferdinand Porsche with their pre-ww2 models on creating Beetle and later Porsche... So Czech Republic have a very rich automotive history
The Octavia Combi is a good looking car. Here in Finland wagons are very popular and most Octavias sold here are wagons. I have a 2023 Octavia Combi Style with 1.5 L petrol (gasoline) engine, manual gearbox, Lava Blue colour. A comfortable, good quality car and good fuel economy. I have now driven about 4000 km, mainly highway driving, and my average is 4.9 litres /100 km, even though it's a non-hybrid petrol engine. I wanted the sporty RS, but they are much more expensive, so my rational brain said no. That green RS is cool, but I would have chosen a red one.
I have the Octavia's bigger brother - The Superb Estate / wagon with the Golf R 2.0L TSI engine with 360bhp & 4 x 4 DSG transmission. It's a bit of a sleeper car because it looks just a diesel model but has super quick acceleration. Modern Skoda's are really good except they have no small EV cars yet. We also had a Karoq 4x4 until recently when we traded it for a smaller EV for my wife.
Škoda used to have a Škoda Citigo iV - which was really a rebadge Volkswagen e-Up!, But the Škoda Citigo ended production in 2020, while SEAT Mii ended production in 2021, yet the Volkswagen Up! seem to still be in production.
@@automation7295 Yes I'm aware of the Citigo, Mii & Up!. However, these did not have enough range for what we needed & were a bit too small. The Skoda Enyaq is too big / expensive & I also didn't like the interior or infotainment system on the VW ID3. So, we got a used 2022 64kWh Hyundai Kona which has a 250 mile range which we will charge from home on solar. We have a Fabia 2 combi TDi (wagon), as empty nesters we don't need a big car. However we have 2 dogs and trips to the boat it is loaded up. The cost difference between Skoda & "premium" brand is we afford boat ownership.
Mine is the lower spec 150PS Octavia Estate SEL TDi. Before buying I had a look at what taxi drivers and Paramedics were driving, they always go for the most reliable cars, and this was it. Bought it January 2017 and so far have had 100% reliability, with a best fuel consumption over a 250 mile trip averaging 81.6 mpg. Very easy to get over 60mpg anytime I do more than 20 miles, and usually get into the 50's around town. The boot is huge and can take just about anything you can throw at it. The only regret I have is I didn't order it with the panoramic roof, will do so with the next one.
Hi. I have a third generation Octavia facelift scout version and I also have a 2.0tdi 135kw 184hp. Scout is actually a crossover version of Octavia. I also have a 6-speed automatic and that car is brutal. I can tow a braked trailer up to 1800kg, and the version with a 7-speed dsg transmission, which was installed there since 2019 for the scout model, can tow up to 2000kg, or then the 110kw 2.0tdi with a manual transmission, also 2000kg. As such, the Octavia is a very versatile car, and the Scout is even more so, since in addition to roads, you can also take it somewhere in the woods and so-called "offroad". a lot of people think it's just a plasticized Octavia because it has a bodykit that adds protection to the car's wheel arches and thresholds and has different bumpers. The Octavia Scout can handle a surprising amount of things in the off-road considering that it is a family combi. And if it has tires like mine, BFgoodrich AT KO2, specific size 215/65r16, it's a really good car, the engine has power and 4x4 is very capable, and at the moment I have it even higher, even though the original is 3 cm higher than the normal Octavia, I added more 4cm+ :D at the moment it is a family off-road station wagon. I like that car very much and it will probably be with me forever until the EU divides us :D if you would like to see it, you can find it on my IG Boborovsky007.
Yes, we also have Skoda here in Australia and just recently I bought a new Skoda Karoq Style 110TSI SUV. It sits in the Medium Size SUV segment but is one of the smaller offerings in this class. Having said that though, it has one of the biggest boots (trunks) in the segment and is the only one where you can remove all of the rear seats from the vehicle, it's a very practical SUV and comes with lots of little clever idea's.
I upgraded to Karoq (from Yeti) with the same engine as you have, and I'm so happy with it, especially with the space in the 2nd row and the boot. So practical if you have a baby. Seems like you have the Varioflex seats. I had those in the Yeti, but now I have just the regular ones.
I have the 2015 Octavia VRS (saloon not estate model) with the same black accents etc. It's been the best car I've had and has never skipped a beat. Fast when I want it to be and great on the country roads in North Yorkshire where I live. Can really throw it into corners. I'll drive this one till it's dead
When I was in Poland in 2016, I had a 2014 Octavia Combi as a rental. That was a really nice car. Comfy, stylish, plenty of power, and was just gliding on the road.
I like Skoda. They are using VW technology but have good design and functionality ideas. In many European countries more estate wagons or shooting brake versions are sold than the sedan version.
Aussie here, owner of the 2017 Škoda Rapid hatchback Monte Carlo edition. Absolutely love it! Next car will be electric, tossing between the Enyaq, the Cupra Born, and the Polestar 2 (2024 version). Likely to be the Cupra cos $$. Cupra is a spin-off from SEAT, which is the Spanish arm of VW and very similar to Škoda esp re software etc.
I have an old 2007 skoda roomster the cool thing about my car is the varioflex seats which i can completely remove from the car and turn it from a 5 seater to a 2 seater van.
Just point of view from a regular Octavia owner. They make a lot of SUV-ish models as everyone and I don't know those, but Fabia is the small car (subcompact?), Octavia is the compact, and Superb is mid size, so these are different size categories. I drive a 2017 Octavia combi myself, which is previous generation facelift version (1.4 TSI, 150 Hp / 250 Nm). It's not fast, but suitable for crusing until 160ish kph (gets noisy above that). People in some European countries seem to love diesel (a bit less nowadays, diesel new car sales are decreasing) but it's common opinion that diesel is good if you drive a lot of long distance (lot of highway use), while gasoline is more reliable if you use it on smaller distances (on cold engine). Since I do quite a lot of small trips of 3km, 6km, 10km I went with gasoline one. Plus I never got used to diesel, for me it's associated with agricultural vehicles and trucks, and doesn't feel very sporty because of the different engine characteristic (lower rpms), more vibrations, different sound. Of course it offers better consumption, you save about 1 - 1.5L compared to gasoline. Brand doesn't mean a lot nowadays, it's a slightly different VW with basically same mechanics and electronics (Fabia = Polo, Octavia = Golf, Superb = Passat), however Octavia is considered a bit lower class (bit worse materials and equipment) than the Golf Variant (combi) but it's roomier. Skodas used to be the budget option, they aren't cheap nowadays. Similar VW brother was the Seat which I think they are killing at the moment, in the video you watched there was a grey Seat Leon in the background I believe which is also the Seat equivalent of Golf / Octavia, slightly different design with pretty much same engines, gearbox, suspension, often even infotainment and many of the components and functionalities. Octavia RS main competitor around here would probably be the Hyundai i30N (Veloster N in US), Focus ST (i believe at some point you had it in US), or Honda Civic type R. These are generally more sportier but less practical perhaps, only the Focus has a combi version. I used to have a Focus 2nd gen before, that was more fun to drive (better steering wheel response, better throttle response) but the Octavia is, even though same class, considerably roomier, the rear leg room is a lot better so it's better for long trips for 4 people. It's kind of an odd one out as it seems to be a half size above its class. I was originally looking for mid size (mazda 6 being a favorite) but being a compact it was quite a bit cheaper, probably also cheaper to maintain, while it doesn't feel a compromise in terms of room. Few times a year I do trips of 1000km or above and while I could imagine better cars, it's quite OK for the money I paid for it. I prefer these to SUVs and my next car will also be either a combi or maybe as hatchback (would love a type r or an i30n). First of all I don't like potato looking cars (apparently I'm a minority with this), also Suvs generally use more fuel and emit more while they don't really have more usable space, you just sit high, and have worse acceleration and braking due to excess weight and worse aerodynamics.
I remember when I came to the US for a year and the first car I saw outside of Philadelphia Airport was a Škoda. Never saw a Škoda again in the whole year😅
The "cool black" car in the background is a Superb. I have one and I absolutely love it. As you surmised, it's larger than the Octavia and so a bit more comfortable. The automatics in these btw is not a torque converter but a DSG, so a nice auto rather than a slushbox.
Hello iWrocker, I am from czech republic and I think that you have to visit our country to see all good and nice what we produce. Tatra and Škoda Octavia on every corner 😀 pozdrav z česka 👍
For future reference: a Skoda with a VRS badge is a top of the line model, not just a body kit, those have an "RS-line" badge. It has a 2L engine that pumps out a minimum of 200bhp to all four wheels, but I believe (I may be mistaken though) the typical sporty audi 4x4 transmission on all VRS skodas always sends about 65-70% of the power to the rear wheels, resulting in more than decent acceleration while also keeping enough traction on the front wheels so you don't spin out as easily as you would in a purely rear-wheel drive car. I've test driven a previous model VRS with a 2L diesel engine, before they forced automatic transmissions on all the VRS models, and I can tell you I loved every second of it! I drive a normal 1.6L diesel Octavia in daily life, so I know the chassis well and the additional power was mighty exhilerating!
The Superb is like the Passat: "The top tier" Premium Model vom Skoda oh and yeah its slightly bigger its like the Octavia is based on the Golf Variant which equals the A4 about size wise while the Superb is like said the Passat and A6 sized so more Premium and larger which is nice for people above 1.90m also the Kodiaq is awesome for tall people. But I was suprised aswell how awesome Skoda became the last 10 years while VW Design and Quality didnt really got better (Design even worse) we went for a Kodiaq which is named after the Kodiak bear/island whatever all there SUVs ends with a Q though. Its an awesome car and better plus cheaper than the more popular VW Tiguan imho and we drove VW for decades in our Family. Modern Skodas are great understandment but quality cars which you could still effort with realiable VW Engines. So cant go wrong with a Skoda.
I agree with you, but still think the Golf is the best design in class and has not changed much in years - it is a timeless design. We were looking to buy the Octavia a few years ago but I didn't like the 2018 design. So went for the Golf instead. It still looks modern to this day.
First gen Superb was even selling as VW Passat in China, just different logo, It was mostly same car. I even saw some Felicia branded as VW in north Cyprus - Turkish side.
Thanks for this content! I have this exact petrol Octavia 4 RS 2023 in mamba green (only not combi, but sedan), full spec. The color is such a head-turner. It’s an amazing car. It’s the third generation of Octy RS I’ve owned in a row. Because it has got the same engine, transmission and everything else as Golf GTI (but it’s bigger), it has a huge tuning potential thanks to companies like APR, Revo, etc. My previous RS was tuned to 400 hp and I loved it :) it’s now reliably serving my friend. This one will be no exception!
Man, I'm so glad to see some appreciacion of Škoda in the US. Too bad they don't sell cars there. Yet :D I recently bought a new Škoda Karoq - medium sized crossover, and before that I had Škoda Yeti - small crossover, and I've been so satisfied with both. With Škoda you get in my opinion prettier design over VW and mostly same parts and performance as VW, but at a better price. I know of at least one person from Idaho who would love to own a Škoda.
SUVs on the background are: Karoq - the gray one and Kodiaq - the white one. I'm a happy owner of Kodiaq. And had an older Octavia A5 before. Skoda is a great brand. IMHO, the best offer in term of price/quality relationship.
I'm from the Czech Republic and i much love Škoda cars i have Škoda Felicia from the 1998 Year and my Felicia have 74 000 Kilometers and my sister have Škoda Octavia we love Škoda cars ❤🙂
Hey Man, I own a Skoda Octavia Combi RS TDI 4x4 from 2019 it's the Model before the one you saw in the Video. And I love it :) Basically it's a Golf MK7 GTD 4x4 (Platform and Engine) as a Wagon. They are a cheaper Option than the VW with the same Tech and they feel more mature.
Skoda being part of VAG, same as Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Porsche, Lamborghini, Rolls, Bugatti, etc..., they share both the basis and the engines with VW, as well as some accessories. Although cheaper than VW, Skoda cars have a better reliability reputation, are larger (bigger trunks, more back seat leg room) and are better built. The Superb is the Passat of Skoda, the Oktavia is the Golf. Thanks for your work which I watch with great interest from Luxembourg.

The 2 other are VW and Audi, Skoda is responsible for North Africa and India(incl. central Asia), Audi for midle east and asia pacific, Volkswagen(car brand) for North & South America+ Sub-Sahara and the Volkswagen Group for china
If you mean Rolls Royce with "Rolls" ....then that one is owned by BMW. VW bought the rights for the Bugatti name and badge and then developed the modern supercar ....but it is now sold to Rimac and Porsche.
I own an Octavia RS. They are very popular here because it is the right mix of practicality and fun. As you said in the video, they are part of the VW group and the Octavia shares it's engine with the Golf GTI 6/7/8th gen. You can also get it with a turbodiesel engine and with all-wheel drive. They cost from 31.000 euro (base model RS with petrol engine) up to 48.000 for the PHEV.
That "RS" badge is more of a "sports line" thing nowadays, though. Apparently (and sadly), the mother company (VW) does not want Skoda to be truly competitive with their sports models anymore.
Škoda was too ambitious at one point so VW put a stop to that so now they can no longer be the "best" at what they do (which would be basically creating better alternatives to VW cars for better price), unlike Seat (a Spanish brand also belonging to VW) who were allowed to create a subdivision called Cupra which recently separated who were and still are allowed to use the maximum out of shared parts and that's why you have a car like the Cupra Formentor VZ5 with the famous Audi 2.5l 5 cylinder engine meanwhile Škoda isn't even allowed to make an alternative to a Golf R, only the Golf GTI.
I only own the first generation Octavia - 2003. It has 20 years, 215000 km, eats oil (1 litre per every 1000 km). Other than that works just fine. Every now and then it needs some minor repair like .... doors stop working or something. But it gets me places. It's not comfortable, not very safe I would say... but you know .... cost me about 1200 USD to purchase in 2019 ... soooooo
The standard Ovtavia Combi price here in the EU is around €30,000 ($32,135.85) and the RS is around €48,000 ($51,417.36). And of course you can spend €5,000 to €10,000 on extras. But it's worth it. The RS, with its all-wheel drive, is rocket fast and the handling is remarkable. And it's super safe, stable and reliable, basically a car for a lifetime.
In Germany Škoda cars in many places are considered the more volky Volkswagens because they have been cheaper while using the same technological platforms and adding some smart extras the original VW pendants do not sport. Originally this may have been implemented to overcome the drawbacks of being restricted to previous tech stacks in former days but meanwhile every VAG brand can draw from the current level of the enterprises kit. I drive a similar Octavia RS MK4. Though gas powered and not 4x4 but also with DSG automatic gearbox. My Color is the originally RS exclusive Race Blue Metallic which actually isn't that exclusive anymore. Essentially it's a VW Golf/Jetta GTI Wagon with a different makeup. The infotainment system is crap but that's the case for allmost all VAG Models of the generation because they share the same basic software.
Yes, based on the VW Passat. Similar dimensions, but more... better. And even the sedan is actually a hatch, so better loading access and if you remove the rear tray, you can load up to the rear glass = Much more space compared to passat sedan. Also looks better IMO :) -Verified owner.

Your Škoda pronouciation is superb my man 🫡. I had until start od the year a previous model of Octavia RS, it is really the perfect blend of cars. When the mood takes you, it's a petrohlead's friend, active electronic diff, 250 horsepower and 0-100Kph in 6.5s is great fun! And at the same time it has more legroom and boot space than Mondeo for less, carried me, my GF and my friend, stuff for a week for all three and two kegs of beer easy 😎, as well as my son from thr hospital for the first time. Right until the moment some dumbass didn't give way and sent me into yet another car 😢. And even then she saved my life. RIP my Blue Rocket. RS Octavia is the best you can buy from Škoda, and even tough I liked the design of the previous one more, I will buy this one next year anyway 😂
From 2000 to 2019, we had six different Skodas - never had a problem with either petrol or diesel versions. Decided to change to Spanish-built SEAT (another VAG company) in 2019...enjoying just as much.
The Rally 2 Škoda Fabia RS sounds so nice. My favorite Rally 2 car. You can hear the turbo chirping from hundreds of meters away. Skodas have some charm to them.
RS is sport version of our basic Octavia. Very decent look but it can surprise you...kinda beast afordable for family. And for hatchback we have model Fabia, in RS version too...representing our country in rally sport. And yes Superb is our fancy limo
Hey!I'm so happy that a person from the Us reacted to Škoda it was very nice to hear your opinion and watch your video. The difference bewteen the Superb and the Octavia is that the Superb is larger, more expensive and more luxurious than the Octavia and you also can get the Superb with a higher performance engine. (The fastest Škoda Superb and also the fastest Škoda is the Superb Sportline with the 280hp 2.0 TSI engine goes to 60 in about 5 seconds) And you're actually right the prices went up quiet a lot in the past years, here are some examples: Octavia:from 19k dollars to 26k Octavia RS: From 32k to 46k Thank you for making this video hope you'll have a great day!
Give diesel a chance. My 1.9l TDI is 22 years old, has 160,000 miles and consumes 54.7mpg on long journeys and 40.5mpg on average for the year, does 139mph and weighs 3200lbs. I'm fat at 330lbs and almost 6.5ft tall and sit comfortably inside. So perfect for North Americans.
From what ive heard, Skoda isnt allowed in the US because VW doesnt let them, because they might outsell their cars, they already do with Audi, Skoda is considerably more profitable than Audi, but they get held back by VW
These are very popular in Europe. Very reliable, very good mileage. The engines are all the exact same ones used in VW’s, but tuned slightly different as not to overpass the mother brand’s performance or quality. I mean you could drive the same 2.0 TDI 150 HP in the Octavia as in the Golf, but the feel would just not be the same as the VW. DSG gearbox in the Skoda will always shift somewhat differently, interior materials would feel premium but not quite like the VW’s and so on. But that would only matter if you’re a hardcore enthusiast. Otherwise, it’s a great brand with lots of quality for the buck. Wagons are all the rage in EU because the boot is very large. It’s perfect for a family, as it easily fits a stroller and then some. This particular model is the RS, the high-end trim. It’s sportier and the engine is tuned for better performance. It comes in diesel and gasoline and depending on the year of fabrication, it can go up to 300 HP.
Škoda's US entry was closer than you can imagine. But there are some rumors that it was rejected by VW and Audi... Not unusual, the quality of Audi for the price of a Kia. 😊🫣 By the way, the first commercial for the Škoda Kodiaq was filmed in Alaska, USA. I’m currently on my fourth Škoda here in the UK; first was a 1980 120 LSE (rear-engined) followed by a ‘98 Fabia, a 2010 Octavia estate (Combi/wagon) and now, by far the best, a 2014 Yeti 1.6TDI, so practical, comfortable, reliable and economic (average approx 55mpg). It’s definitely a keeper - unless I can afford to trade up to another!
I am Czech and might have a slight bias, but especially modern day Škoda cars have insane cost to performance ratio. For the money you pay you get a really nice car that gets the job done. If you are buying outright, you can customize it to an insane level for a very fair amount of money. Due to Škoda not being considered a flex brand, a lot of taxi drivers, cops and security companies buy them in the UK. Skoda even provides a heavily armoured version of the Superb for VIPs that is very popular, since they are safe, luxurious enough, as well as extremely private. Nobody is turning their heads at a black Škoda. The only issue is waiting times for delivery, but honestly that is any car manufacturer nowadays.
I am a happy owner of Superb 4x4 Combi. Got it for the frequent 500+ km trips I do. I love the car! It’s like a Swiss Army knife on wheels! Just love it!
Have a manual transmission of the car in your video but in black metallic and RS Plus, however the car in the video was missing lots of options and they didn't talk about all the cool stuff. Umbrella in the doors. Camera washer jet on the back. USB C port by the rear view mirror for your dash cam. Sleep package with special rear headrests and blankets. Memory seats with massage for both. Multiple way adjustable DCC suspension. Any many more things. Another amazing thing are matrix LED headlights that are amazingly good. Tons and tons of stuff that isn't available in a Golf (which it shares platform with). It's actually slightly larger than the Golf. RS comes with a 200hp TDI with DSG in FWD or AWD (4X4 in Skoda talk), 245hp 1.4 plug in hybrid which comes only FWD and DSG, 245hp 2.0T TSI (same exact engine as MK8 GTI) in 6spd manual or 7spd DSG - both with limited slip diff. Current NX generation Octavia outsells the Golf and Cupra Leon cousins. It's the best looking, had Skoda sold a more hardcore version of the RS with 300hp engine and AWD it would be parked in my garage. Superb is much bigger car, it's about 5 series size. FYI the Octavia and Superb (non Combi) are actually 5 door lift backs that aren't sedans... With huge trunks.
I own a Skoda Fabia 2015 (the estate version). I really didn't plan on buying one, it just happened. After my original car deal fell apart I decided to have one last check online and expanded the search to include all cars. This one looked interesting online with a special trim package in white with black accents, alloy trims, panoramic roof, heated seats, sports wheel... Really good looking car, the engine is a 1.2L 110hp petrol. It happened to be the next city over to where I had to go for a work trip, popped over to see it with my friend and haven't regretted it since. I don't have anything bad to say about it after owning it for a while, it has been reliable and very comfortable to drive. It was also very difficult for me to find a vehicle that would suit me as I am 6ft 1inch tall so regular small European cars feel cramped for longer drives (especially in the leg area). As a pleasant surprise the Fabia is spacious, I have driven 4 people in it and transported lots of luggage and a bike in the trunk with no problems.
In the USA You have Volkswagen as Skoda equvalent. US version of VW Jetta is robably the closest one to the Octavia. What VW Passat is in the US the Skoda Superb is in the EU where otherwise Passat has engines and trims a class higher to Superb. If you dig deep into core of VW Atlas you find the same internals and inner structure parts of Skoda Kodiaq....

All that's neat and practical on a VW came from Škoda :-D As mileage goes it highly depends on how you use the car. If you drive few km's (miles) per drive it's not that friendly but when you drive for a while it definitely beats petrol engine In India Škoda sells an Indian special, Škoda Slavia. They also have different verzion for China as well The Monte Carlo editon is mostly about nicer, better interior, differnt wheels. Feels nice though. My mom has Kamiq in this version, me myslef not a fan 😀 I'm a Fix Or Repair Daily kind a guy And Czech Koruna (currency) is usually 20-25CZK for 1USD so 1mil CZK is less than 50K USD
Most of the vw groups higher power cars are 4x4. They use a Borg Warner, Haldex clutch system. Its bascially a hydraulic clutch thats can regulate the speed of the axels. Most of the time it sends all of the power to the front for efficiency. But will go full 4x4 and send half of the power to the back if you mash the throttle. Its also uses it in the stability control in low grip like in snow and ice.
I got my Skoda Octavia FSI (1Z) in 2008 new and it's still running strong after 300.000 km. It's super reliable, especially compared to the Citroen I had before.
My dad sold his octavia 1st generation like 2 years ago, it was 20 yrs old car with over 300k km, the car and engine ran like new. He still sold it for $3000. Boot is huge, we were considering skoda octavia combi but bought vw golf variant but prices were exactly the same, it is almost the same car but skodas design is way better/sporty than vw in my opinion.
I have 2007 skoda fabia with a 1.9L tdi engine. That thing runs like a charm despite being on the older side. And accelerates much faster than most cars of it’s size
The 4x4 is a haldex system. The Octavia shares it's platform and drivetrain etc. with the golf, a3 etc. Superbs are larger and shares it's platform with the Passat.
I bought the liftback version in red with black wheels and after 3 years I still hear people on the street talking about the beauty of my configuration.
Had the Octavia 1. great cars, cheap for what they can. They where actualy ONLY all wheel drive at the first place, just the newer version do also have only front wheel drive. but mine also was 4x4. Im from Swiss, sometimes we got snow.. sometimes we dont. It is a good 4x4. Oce i had to pull a BMW X-Drive, who did cost double the price as my Car, out of deep snow, because his electric 4x4 was BS ^^ backwheel sliped and the front wheels didnt do nothing. I pulld him out in 1 try.
My diesel Superb did 60,000 in 6 months with nothing replaced except tyres at an average of 45 mpg. I bought my Octavia VRS wagon to replace it in 2015 and apart from brakes and tyres the only thing that has needed replacing is a battery. It is a 2.0 petrol DSG auto and averages 40 mpg in normal use, 45 mpg on the motorway, and 28 mpg in hard use. I will keep it until it falls apart then replace it with another Skoda.
At one time, about 30 years ago, Skoda was laughed at in the UK. Now, they're a respected brand
It was the same in Denmark. One joke was that you could double the value of a Skoda by adding a marsbar to the gloveboks.

So the cheaper models have the Monte Carlo badge. Because Monte Carlo is a cheap place. ;-)

Škoda got 'good' literally only because they've got bought out by Volkswagen. Otherwise they'd make soviet style boxes to this very day.
It was another company Tatra who made all this vehicles during WWII.
LT-38 was made by ČKD, not Škoda. You can also see both the LT-35 and LT-38 in working condition at the Lešany Military Museum.
Škoda making also trams.

And even under the roof of Volkswagen, the brand is still a a thing of its own. I love these cars, and I'm German :-)
It’s a little more complicated. Škoda like part of VW group and different company Škoda producing trains, tramways even parts for oceans ships..
Not only in Czechia, I heard there are some Škoda buses driving around San Francisco

Love your work by the way :)
I have the GTD of the same year, have you had to replace the timing belts and water pump?
That sound like a really fun first car 😂
Nice 🤣🤣🎉
Skoda have the biggest interior in all of the Europe’s cars. They are the most spacious money can buy
Škoda in The 70s were a laugh and had a string of jokes culture around them, such as “how do you double the price of a Skoda”
Fill the petrol tank 😂 or “what do you call a Skoda cabrio” a Skip 😂😂 Then VW bought them out in 91 and changed there fate around to become an excellent well priced car, good quality.
So Czech Republic have a very rich automotive history
regarding the prices - 1 USD = 20 CZK (Czech Crown) it means:
100 000 CZK = 5 000 USD
200 000 CZK = 10 000 USD
500 000 CZK = 25 000 USD
1 000 000 CZK = 50 000 USD

I have basically same car and same engine. I did a stage 1 remap and now boosts 180hp and 340nm torque. Highly recommend it.

Our family in from the Czech Republic and we own a 2020 Fabia monte Carlo and it is a very nice car
It's the perfect size for local & medium distance journeys & has become our go-to car for both of us. However, I still prefer my Superb Estate for longer journeys & to satisfy my "petrol head" fix. 🏎
@@automation7295 They recently (I believe in May or June) just uncovered new smaller EV like that Karoq/Kamiq crossovers in the video, but it might take a while to see that in the market
@@dvorapa They have a whole EV lineup scheduled over next three years with the design elements from the Vision 7S concept. Elroq (EV Karoq) should be unveiled in 2024 with Kamiq sized EV, estate EV (looks like a midpoint between Octavia and Superb in size), new Enyaq and a large 7 seater following.
Hello from Kvasiny in Czech republic the home of one of two Škoda factories ❤❤
Love your videos❤
I have an old 2007 skoda roomster the cool thing about my car is the varioflex seats which i can completely remove from the car and turn it from a 5 seater to a 2 seater van.
This is a wonderful car! To drive and to look at!
Exactly, these DSG are double clutch transmissions

Im driving `99 octavia 1.8 L Turbo 150hp 25 y old and its still in good shape. Gratings from Poland.
Sorry for the third comment but the superb is the most luxuriose line-up from škoda
Yes, based on the VW Passat.
Similar dimensions, but more... better. And even the sedan is actually a hatch, so better loading access and if you remove the rear tray, you can load up to the rear glass = Much more space compared to passat sedan.
Also looks better IMO :)

(The fastest Škoda Superb and also the fastest Škoda is the Superb Sportline with the 280hp 2.0 TSI engine goes to 60 in about 5 seconds) And you're actually right the prices went up quiet a lot in the past years, here are some examples:
Octavia:from 19k dollars to 26k
Octavia RS: From 32k to 46k
Thank you for making this video hope you'll have a great day!
hello, I'm from the Czech Republic and Škoda has been very popular here for 60 years
Give diesel a chance.
I'm on my fort Skoda. Finaly I was able to afford the RS. I absolutely love it.
Škoda's US entry was closer than you can imagine. But there are some rumors that it was rejected by VW and Audi... Not unusual, the quality of Audi for the price of a Kia. 😊🫣
By the way, the first commercial for the Škoda Kodiaq was filmed in Alaska, USA. Therefore, we adopted the pronunciation in Europe for the Škoda Kodiaq from the US.

And here ist the new Kodiaq -> th-cam.com/video/JWCd6IqbRFc/w-d-xo.html 😎
@17:15 Skoda Superb Combi IV costs 1.144.900 Czech Koruna = $49.872 = €46.858. Cheers Ian. TC.
Brother, this is essentially just a golf with different body panels...
There is a clue for all Americans that can't read foreign car websites
There is always an English version of it, just pick on of following countries
United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand...
Yea, I thought it would be cool and rather funny to see the Czech version 🎉 as obviously I would have no clue on what anything said
@@IWrocker the clue was for most of your co-youtubers that complaining about no American version of the websites an ignoring British flag or EN sign on site version.
I know you are aware of this, you are almost European 😎
@@IWrocker you will be probably interested that it's possible now to import a "modern " Skoda to US as the first model of Skoda Octavia is over 25 years old
i drove my 2005 octavia 1.9 tdi up to 160.000 miles whitout any problems, very reliabel car and very economic, daily commuta was about 46m to the gallon. you have to check out the superb 2.0 petrol sport line,it has the same engine as the golf gti 280 hp 4x4 a real sleeper! greets from belgium
All that's neat and practical on a VW came from Škoda :-D
As mileage goes it highly depends on how you use the car. If you drive few km's (miles) per drive it's not that friendly but when you drive for a while it definitely beats petrol engine
In India Škoda sells an Indian special, Škoda Slavia. They also have different verzion for China as well
The Monte Carlo editon is mostly about nicer, better interior, differnt wheels. Feels nice though. My mom has Kamiq in this version, me myslef not a fan 😀 I'm a Fix Or Repair Daily kind a guy
And Czech Koruna (currency) is usually 20-25CZK for 1USD so 1mil CZK is less than 50K USD
Its a 2.0 tdi 4 motion. So haldex four wheel drive. Fwd and when it needs traction sends power to the rear.
Love the colour. The engine, transmission, brakes, etc... same as the golf R
Those hooks in the trunk are actually parts of the chassis, thats why they are color coded
Are you ready to spend the rest of your life waiting... for your Skoda to fall apart?!
