    Starting out with a second hand rolling galvanised chassis and shabby rear tub.

    Wow this is a lot of work. Gives me encouragement for my defender restoration, with a perfect original chassis. Steering missing parts, disk brakes worn thin, raidiator shot, turbo seals, and an engine overhaul. Also on my driveway.

    Really would love to see how your restore the tub, I have to do mine soon and would love some pointers on how to do it.

    You must have some seriously understanding neighbours doing that on your driveway. That said, I'm going to enjoy watching that chassis come back to life.

    Paddocks came to the rescue as 'proud sponsors'.
    I'll have to shop there some more (but filtering out bearmach part 😉)

    Im rebuilding a 1977 2 Door Range Rover, so I am following with interest on things you are doing on yours. BTW, love the 101 cleaner in the kitchen sink, if my other half saw me doing that I would be in deep trouble :)

      +Land Rover Toolbox Videos Thx. So far chasis is sound but we dont get salt dumped on roads in Australia so we dont face the rust you guys do. But body floors yes, need new panels.

      Rust,... a universal phenomenon.

    Where the galvanising has come off, what will you be doing? Just a good rust inhibitor?
    Great look around of the chassis 👍

    Just went on a 10 hour drive with a transporter to pick up my old series 2a! She needs spring mounts replacing front and rear. So i,m going to fit dumb irons on the front and as the rear is pretty rotten a 1/2 chassis and crossmember!

    Hi, great video. A couple of questions, did you use a rust converter on the chassis before you primed it and also did you deal with rust inside the chassis?

    Are you planning on restoring this 110 or making it into one of those green laners that people use in off roading competitions.

      +Matt Allen don't worry, loads more to come yet. If you have any suggestion on what we can cover then this project is open to suggestions.

      +Land Rover Toolbox Videos Hmm... whilst your at this stage testing the chassis metal and having a probe inside to see if the inside is the same as the outside. MOT tests aren't exhaustive as you know and many of us have our kids in our motors with us day to day. Be good to know that old steel is up to the task at hand! Once that's covered how to give some on going protection to the inside rails and little seen areas. Safe practice for running electric string and fuel/brake lines and keeping them in good condition. Under body protection and perhaps sound proofing options? As bonus footage 'creating an ideal habitat for your LRS's (Land Rover Spiders)... my kids give them names!

    What happened to that chassis!!!! Even if fitted at new it should be in much better condition - old steel chassis later galvanized perhaps?

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Edward Parrott I have no idea. We need to consult a specialist about this.

    I like those wheels.quick question. Do they fit a disco 2? I'm looking for winter wheels and I like the steel wheel look.

    • @DarrenCoull
      @DarrenCoull 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Blockwash5 The stud spacing is totally different between the D2 and the older Land Rovers. You can get D2 Steel wheels proper though - they look like this: i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww218/nashvillerover/IMG_2352.jpg - if the link doesn't work, just do a google image search :-)

    How do you do an alignment check???

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks ofor reminding me. It is about measuring the diagonals from points marked on the ground after using a plumb line. Measurements are in the relevant workshop manuals.
