Very fair review and I agree with pretty much everything. I don’t know yet if it’s truly the weakest of the Floor trilogy though. That may go to Human Nature for me, but it remains to be seen. Floor’s vocals really astonished me, and songs like Oceans of Strange Islands and Perfume of the Timeless are some next level creations.
Really the only major disappointment for me on here is that you can very much tell that male vocalist (and bassist) Marko is no longer a part of the band here. The guy made for a great pairing for Tarja, Anette and Floor and it’s sad to see him go. Hope he’s ok with his mental health at least.

A few corrections: - The "J" in Floor's last name is pronounced as a "Y" (think of it as being "Yansen") - The "j" in Tarja's first name is also pronounced as a "y" - The last Nightwish album isn't "Human to Nature" or "Human 2 Nature". It's simply "Human/Nature" (think of the symbol in the middle as s divider, and perhaps something that represents a long period on either side)
I enjoyed this album. It doesn't feel as bloated as their last two records, but neither does it reach the highs of something like Imaginearum for me. Based on my first impressions, I'd say your score is spot on. Not amazing, but fun all the same.
Something tells me that all those people who hated Harvest off the last album are the same people wo are not happy with the latest album, These people are easy to recognise as they are tone deaf and have no taste in music whatsoever. Lanternlight, for example, may be far cry from Master Passion Greed, but in my opinion is a testament to the genius of its composer and the band that has brought his composition to life. Take the earplugs out and listen again or miss out again on another masterpiece of an album.
@@RonniePeterson I invite you to reread your own post. You're nothing but a little Holopainen sycophant who thinks that he can do no wrong. My ears were tired after the first hearing. And I agree about the length of songs in general. For example I like Perfume of the Timeless a lot, but I would cut all of the intro and the outro to leave only this beautiful melody with Floor. Others songs are also too meaningfull for me, I prefer emotions over thoughts when it comes to music.
Okay to be fair...it is not for everybody cause of less Heavy Parts or other Opinions but it is good. You don't get all the poetic Stuff or after Marco Era..it's a new Beginning all the Time with new Players or Changes. They do what they like...not only for Awards. I guess you don't get the Whole Picture but it's ok.
This album is an absolute Masterpiece. They nailed it! Perhaps you should dive deeper in the music and the lyrics. I think it can take some time to get the full power of this album.
For me all three albums with Floor have suffered from poor production and shitty mixing. None of which is her fault. I believe she is easily the best vocalist they've ever had. Sadly her albums don't do her justice, or the other band members either for that matter. The drums on Endless Forms was basically non-existent for example. I feel they are turning into Iron Maiden where they have these overly long complicated album concepts with shitty production.
I feel like this too when it comes to Floor. I used to listen to After Forever and even her stuff on The Source sounds great. Why can’t they get her vocals to shine on the albums?
@mtaffer I think part of it is because they have changed how they produce their albums since Floor joined. Listen to Imaginarium for a comparison. Everything was mixed louder and more clear on that one. Plus on Endless Forms they had Floor try to sing as soft as she could because they thought that would be a challenge for her. But I don't think the fans wanted that.
Oh wah, wah, wah. I'm starting to get really tired of the whining from fans who demand that every Nightwish album fits exactly what they want Nightwish to deliver. If you want to listen to the same old, same old, go endlessly loop "Wishmaster", or better yet, just listen to any Metallica album. For those who didn't notice, or didn't want to notice, Floor's vocals vary throughout the album. On some songs she is part of the orchestration, the soundscape. In other songs, she's in your face. This is a deliberate mixing choice for what Nightwish wants to achieve in any particular song. For those with an open mind, do this. Get a nice bottle of your favourite beverage. Pour a glass. Settle into a comfy chair, put on some good headphones, then lean back and listen to the entire album from start to finish without interruption. The tragedy of genius is that they're often only appreciated after they're dead. Tuomas knows this and he's content with it. Understand "Dead Boy's Poem" and you'll understand where he and the band are going.
Right on. I always find it amusing when “fans” of a band that has always emphasized change, growth….EVOLUTION….get mad when said band does any of those things. You’re right…it seems they want Nightwish to just keep releasing (fill in the name of a particular whiner’s favorite album) over and over and over again.
awww, are you offended because some people didnt like the album that you liked, adn you cried because people have a different opinion from you? Then just leave the inetrnet if you get offended but someone thinking different from you. People have the right to criticise, its called freedom of speech, and theres a reason this album is criticized. Its boring, dumb, unispired, has zero soul and personality, just like teh whoel badnm today. We dont demand them to be the same, we just want a good album from nightwish, and they havent released a godo album for over a decade now. Grow up, and deal with a fact that not everyone will have the same opinion like you do 🤡
might be a bit harsh. Just because you like something doesn't mean everyone else has to and vice versa. I really like the album except for the chorus of one song, that first single, the middle song of the album. It just doesn't work for me, even after close to 100 listens it still feels wrong to me. I am ok with that but that doesn't mean I shouldn't comment about it. That is the thing, commentary both good and bad, and opinion is important as without it we might as well be drones in a hive mind! Nightwish themselves would shrink in horror if that was what they thought their fans expected of each other. Maybe on reflection it will turn out that they made a misstep who knows. The other thing is that just because they evolve doesn't mean they are evolving in a worthwhile direction! That is the thing with evolution not everything survives the process! It is entirely possible that this album is the throwaway one? I think not as I feel this was a very positive evolution from the previous album which I think was the weakest of the so called trilogy and so am pleased as punch that they continued to evolve.
@@mnewm21 It's not about like or dislike. Frankly, I don't care if they like it or not. Rather it's about this demand for conformity which insists that all these songs should be mixed and performed like any other metal or rock song. "Yesterwynde" needs multiple listens of the entire album in order to be appreciated.
What you observe here pretty much aligns with my thoughts after listening to the album for the first time. A lot of the songs overstay their welcome, and there is very little that pops out. Human Nature had „Shoemaker“ with that gripping cinematic feel and operatic ending, which completely took me off guard on first listen. It had „Endlessness“ which has to be one of the most emotional songs Nightwish ever created. Also „How‘s the heart“ jumped out to me immediately and proved to be a very effective song in the live shows. I didn’t get anything like that out of Yesterwynde yet. There is just so much „same-ey“ stuff, predictable song structures, well established arrangements, really nothing fresh or surprising here. Also, I have a feeling the lyrics are far too wordy in more than a few places, like the lyrical content just had to be squeezed in there and it barely fits. Very strange. From a musical point of view, I feel like the songs are „much ado about nothing“, the songs have intricate parts, arrangements and dynamics, yet amount to nothing memorable despite all the clamour. The only song I like is „Lanternlight“, which of course is one of the more stripped-down songs on the album. And even that could have benefitted from cutting a few parts in my opinion.
@IkeVMAX4 1) Yes, in a video that is nearly 4 years old not knowing the risks of actually eating clothing: the human body cannot digest clothing and I risk a slew of health issues by doing so including choking, being poisoned, gastrointestinal blockage requiring immediate surgery, etc. This was explained thoroughly in the "Time II" video that you previously commented on. 2) Nope, and not gonna either, for reasons that should be extremely obvious by now.
Yesterwynde feels like a "one flavor" album. Imaginaerum has songs so different from eatchother but they work so well together, that has always been so fascinating about Nightwish. But on this album, songs sound so similar to one another that after 3 listenings to the entire album it is still hard for me to remember how the song sounds just by its title. Tuomas has always done these great transitions in the songs and it always felt natural, in this album it feels like they had actual 2 songs and put one song into another and it completely ruins it for me. Some songs to me have amazing new Nightwish stuff that are maybe 1-2 minutes in a 6-7 minutes song that is completely boring me to death. Listening to it many times, trying hard to let it grow on me, but it just doesn't work as an "easy" listen. Since it is metal music, it is still "too soft" with new experimental stuff, and to me Floor is so fascinated now how she can sing low and soft she forgot she was in a metal band. Everyone says they are so moved by some of the songs they cry.... i don't want to cry!!! I wanna feel cool, strong, epic, inspired, moved, happy... where is all this touchy feely crying comming from.... all in all the album is so boring, with some parts so good but those parts can't save it for me. It sucks i can't enjoy this or the previous album as a fan of 20 years, never had any expectations from any album, i always let Nightwish surprise me, and it never failed, but now it's not working for me.
Floor can sang Marko's vocals parts, Jukka decent bassist. Nevertheless my heart still holds the rage for Marko's departure and the icing on the cake just makes a void in Nightwish. Please Tuomas bring back either Marko or Tarja in; better yet both Omg the Ever Dream!
I kinda like this album, but I can't stand the production. It really feels like that Tuomas boosted all the symphonic parts and buried everything else in the mix. Even Floor struggles on choruses of these songs.
Absolutely FCUK all wrong with the mix, the album is brilliant with EPIC tracks, you think the genius that is Tuomas would listen to the final mix after all his brilliant work AND GO YEAH THAT MIX SOUNDS $HITE JUST GET IT OUT THERE NOW TO THE FANS. I 'll wait for all you budding experts to come out and release your own work , let me know when it's ready 👍
@@AntonioRBarreto What ridiculous circular logic that is. I wonder how many things you think you’re qualified to discuss since you must be expert in it first. I’ve been a musician for a great many years, plus, I have ears. I don’t need mixing experience to tell that it’s terrible. Using your reasoning you shouldn’t even be able to say if you think a song is good or not unless you’re a musician and have created your own songs.
@@lekalla TH-cam really messes withbthe quality. On Bandcamp or other HQ sources it's better ... but still, the bombast is a bit overwhelming and Floor is still buried under the mix a bit.

What is the psychology behind this universal devotion to intros, outros and interludes? They contribute something to the record only maybe 20% of the time, and mostly come off as hamfisted, overly serious self worship. Stop it. Get some help.
@CraigMader I think in the right context it can add dimension or atmosphere to an album. Unfortunately tho I think most bands just throw this stuff in because this is what's expected now from these albums in these genres.
The production of this album was the true shocker for me. It felt weak and lifeless and this record felt rushed. When I listen to Nightwish, I want that bombast. This record did not have that.
Listen to it on Apple Music in Dolby Atmos, with some decent headphones. It is another experience. You can hear everything as it should be heard. It's an album hard to digest. After a few listens I would say it's the best album of the trilogy. It's definitely a grower.
To me it seems NW is doing what a lot of bands are doing, the subject matter of the songs is all the same. That's fine if you are into that but I prefer music without the doom and gloom or preachy subject matter. Just my opinion so I will leave it at that and hope those who enjoy it have a blessed day
By far their worst album. Almost completely unlistenable, boring, uninspired, feels forced just to get some quick money because modern nightwish sheep will buy it anyway. No wonder they dony want to tour for this album. Even the band knows no one wants to hear this garbage live.
Without a doubt, it's the worst album by the band. I've been a fan since 1999, and I only listened to this latest album once; it didn't even make me want to listen to it again, not even a single song.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial yes the annete time more better composition compare to this one..lack of creativity and not really melodic one..no direction at all
Nightwish without Tarja is not Nightwish. with Tarja was magic, without Tarja ..yeah, very good band, I listen to it, but it is just great band, not magic. Without Marco Nightwish became even less great band. With Troy they became even less great band than without Marco 😂 Troy with his all "buzukis" stealed Emppu guitar solos. And his singing....jesus.... Metal without guitars solos is rather strange metal 😂 I also missed incredible energy of Jukka. Tarja, Marco, Jukka... It is almost another band.
I think Floor has that good balance between what Tarja was able to do but also has soft, sweet voice on ballads. And can growl too if needed. I love Marco and was sad to hear he was leaving but Nightwish already existed without him. So they can do it again. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course but as long as Tuomas is there it will always be Nightwish. Yes, he needs talented people to sing, play guitar and drum. But at the end of the day, Nightwish is his creation and baby. He's the heart and soul of the band.
@@mikem.7921 Couldn't disagree more. By many magnitudes they are better musically than they have ever been in my view. Much more sophisticated subject matter, bigger productions and a lot less kitsch than the Tarja and Anette eras.

I kinda like this album, but I can't stand the production. It really feels like that Tuomas boosted all the symphonic parts and buried everything else in the mix. Even Floor struggles on choruses of these songs.
Doesn’t matter if this guy has something good to say or not, dude has the worst voice 😂
I 'll wait for all you budding experts to come out and release your own work , let me know when it's ready 👍
bro why are you mad, I liked the album lmao
@@themetalmeltdownofficial You're gonna need the vodka for a angry Nightwish fangirl drinking game.
😂 dear lord
Nightwish fans will like it but it's not going to bring in new fans
Probably not, but Nightwish don't really need to bring in new fans anyways. They're a massive band with millions of followers.
i'd like a defacement album review :)
The band is great. Floor is great. The mix is terrible.
And how many albums have you mixed before you say that the work of an experienced person in the field is wrong?
@@AntonioRBarreto What ridiculous circular logic that is. I wonder how many things you think you’re qualified to discuss since you must be expert in it first. I’ve been a musician for a great many years, plus, I have ears. I don’t need mixing experience to tell that it’s terrible.
Using your reasoning you shouldn’t even be able to say if you think a song is good or not unless you’re a musician and have created your own songs.
Mix is great. No problem with it.
@@lekalla TH-cam really messes withbthe quality. On Bandcamp or other HQ sources it's better ... but still, the bombast is a bit overwhelming and Floor is still buried under the mix a bit.
Tarja will always be the voice of nightwish
Tarja can't even sing her own songs anymore lmao. Nigthwish is Tuomas Empuu and Floor.
Although l'm a Finn, l'm quite allergic to Tarja nowadays.
@@pekkakarppinen1608 from 1995 to 2002 she was it
@@mikem.7921 l'm probably older than you and not in Alzheimer's (yet). So l know, but l'm tired to her narrow range and her continous hand gestures when live. But in the end, you are right. Her era was great, but maybe not the best.
NOPE.
@@themetalmeltdownofficialBut why tho? It breaks the momentum. It messes up the pacing. I come to metal to bang, so let's go! Just sayin...
The production of this album was the true shocker for me. It felt weak and lifeless and this record felt rushed. When I listen to Nightwish, I want that bombast. This record did not have that.
It had more of what you say it lacked than the last album.
I dunno man, it had PLENTY of bombast in my opinion.
Listen to it on Apple Music in Dolby Atmos, with some decent headphones. It is another experience. You can hear everything as it should be heard. It's an album hard to digest. After a few listens I would say it's the best album of the trilogy. It's definitely a grower.
@@gabrielrenatomazilu I did on Apple Music. I’ll give it another shot.
They lost me a bit after EFMB, Marco's departure put the nail in the coffin for me.
To me it seems NW is doing what a lot of bands are doing, the subject matter of the songs is all the same. That's fine if you are into that but I prefer music without the doom and gloom or preachy subject matter. Just my opinion so I will leave it at that and hope those who enjoy it have a blessed day
Don't like their last 2 albums, go back to simpler metal music please....
@@thepredator666qc4 unfortunately the band grew out of their metal phase
Their last opus was Imaginaerum. Endless Forms is excellent and gorgeous but the magic got lost.
By far their worst album. Almost completely unlistenable, boring, uninspired, feels forced just to get some quick money because modern nightwish sheep will buy it anyway. No wonder they dony want to tour for this album. Even the band knows no one wants to hear this garbage live.
😂
Cope.
Without a doubt, it's the worst album by the band. I've been a fan since 1999, and I only listened to this latest album once; it didn't even make me want to listen to it again, not even a single song.
Worst album of all time
This?... really? 🤨
@@themetalmeltdownofficial yes the annete time more better composition compare to this one..lack of creativity and not really melodic one..no direction at all
Never really got into Nightwish. Symphonic metal has never been my big thing.
@@samemain9999 this is without a doubt the weakest line up nightwish has ever had
It's been almost 20 years...get over it already.
@@mikem.7921 Couldn't disagree more. By many magnitudes they are better musically than they have ever been in my view. Much more sophisticated subject matter, bigger productions and a lot less kitsch than the Tarja and Anette eras.
You haven't listen to Nightwish live because if you did, you would know that Floor blows Tarja out of the water.
