Thank you so much for the shout out, Johan 😀 That gave me a good chuckle. I would absolutely love to come help with the sanding but there is a long todo list waiting for me back in Trinidad. Save some sanding for me next summer and I’ll be there with bells on 😀
I love how the music you select just blends right into the background. It fits each scene perfectly and is not intrusive and doesn't overtake each scene with random noises! So tasteful!
My guess would be that the giraffe sander would be called a telescoping sander here in the US, but, alas, it is called a pole sander. Those drone shots of the fog were absolutely beautiful!! 😍
Your channel is so good. It should be a series on a place like Netflix, Prime or HBO. Seriously so talented and well put together. Im shocked that more people dont follow, Im an old lady in the middle of North America and have no plans to build anything. But these videos are so entertaining. TY both for working so hard. Oh and Vera too :-)
Thanks for the fun fact. I'm not surprised but fascinated and know Johan would be an exceptional tool expert. I loved the foggy morning drone footage. Thanks for sharing.
We bought a Festool Rotex 150 for our yacht. We’ve used it for sanding the bottom (when we redid the antifouling and primer). We then decided to recaulk our deck, and there, it was amazing for sanding the deck multiple times during the process. We also plan to use it for polishing the hull. Truly a multipurpose, fantastic piece of kit.
I suspect that Matt would be glad to help you sand wood. When it comes to fiberglass sanding, sorry but I suspect that most of us will be busy that day. 😊 Cheers.
This is just utterly captivating guys! Who would've thought that this would become this interesting? Johan & his attention to detail, Malin with her skills to the fore across not only the production side but also keeping the logistics side going, it is just so impressive to see. Thank you to your whole family for bringing us into this new "journey"! ✌️🙏
Well done Johan, no one can truly understand that amount of sanding, unless you have been there, and worked through the ache and pain of your neck and shoulders. Especially on vertical surfaces while standing on scaffolding. Take care, and I wished I lived closer,...
Tie a thin rope to the sander and let the sander hang from above. Move side to side while applying pressure. Let the rope out (lengthen) when you finish a "pass". Nice work, very impressive.
I continue to appreciate the "English Language" presentation. I think that some "Swedish Language" lessons would be amazing. Even how to say "Good Morning" in Sweden. ~ Then out of respect I would begin all my comments with a Swedish version of "good morning guys!" ~. Who knows? Anyway. Thank you so much for sharing all of this. A daunting project that has proceeded so well. ✨🌸🙏🌸✨. from New Hampshire. ~ 🇺🇸
Sanding to freedom! Have you thought of using a leaf blower to remove the sawdust, both from the boat and inside the shed? Good ones have suck and blow, I’ve seen it being used to great effect. I love it when tools are utilized across different fields. Just
Yes, surface prep is always sanding, sanding and more sanding. You must have buckets full of sanding dust to use for filler putty. Great job, hull looks really nice,
Glad to hear you still have a sense of humour, love the sanding but prefer watching somebody else doing it 🤣. Can’t stop saying how fabulas the hull looks 👏👏👏
Nice to see you using the respirator. so many people do not and regret it later. Still following with great interest. Now I understand why Johan is so switched on about tools.
Your meticulous cleaning, a.o. of the floor in the hall, is really very good. I wonder if viewers understand the why, actually. In larger (factory) halls, history shows that many a fire started as "dust explosion" when the dust on a large floor got ignited by one tiny spark. and bam the entire floor lit up. Something larger flammable then is easily lit and quite easily the building burns down.
Johan you are the epitome of dedication and a good work ethic to do each step as well as possible to the end of each step with open mind to listen to other ideas many from your own mindful ruminations. I should say you and Molly and your child are all good workers.. 😊
I have so much to say, but words fail me and don't have the energy to type it all out here! I have always been impressed by Johan's skill and work ethic and behind every great man is a great wife! Could you give us an update how your two previous boats are doing and are they on adventures of their own?
If Mads was still on the European continent instead of being in the Caribbean he would probably be there to help you. Hes an. amazing person. The hull is looking wonderful.
Hey Buddy, really enjoying the build, one safety comment however. That hull is now becoming very smooth, meaning, the chances of you slipping or sliding off unintentionally are getting bigger. You should really rig up some sort of track system on the ceiling to which you can connect are climbers harness. If you landed on your feet, might go well. If you landed on your back, bye bye boat build ...... Meant well 👍
Wow the difference, in Sweden you have nice days yet and the trees have yet o change and here in northern Canada the trees have changed and dropped all leaves and we had the first snow fall a couple days ago, yet we are very close on parallels. Great video can't wait till next week
Sanding jail!! You must serve your time! I used to make wood radio control airplanes. Small in comparison but endless sanding for perfection. You think you are done but close inspection with correct lighting shows clearly,,,,, only half done!!!!!
OMG that would be a hit..some Ohh Glorious Johan&Mads sanding and epoxy and fiber DIY!!!😂👍💪💪👊🤩 And Mads and Eva could see 50ft is really more then enough to replace their so nice 38 footer...😅
Your attention to detail and the amount of work involved to prepare for fibre glassing is impressive. Enjoyed the episode with the explanation of how you did the sanding. Looking forward to next week.
Get an electric leaf blower and just open up the barn doors and blow everything out a windy day. It is super quick and get you can really clear walls, beams etc that are harder to vacuum.
LOL! I'd LOVE to see Mads join you for the "Oh Glorious sanding"! I've followed Mads for at least a couple of years now-- big fan! And I'm a big fan of yours, now, too-- for the past 3-4 months. You've taken on a HUGE project, and you've gotten the main part of the hull now finished (No small feat: that's a major milestone!). That's a BIG BOAT! Turning over the hull will be real bear of a task-- but you've proven you're more than capable. Fitting that hull with with bulkheads and "furniture" will eat A LOT of time (again: I'm confident you can do that). I look forward to your videos week after week, and I'm always happy to see a new one! Keep an attitude like Mads-- he won that battle!. TC from Alabama, USA!
Might I suggest the corners of that keel pocket get rounded a bit as well. Corners that are sharp like that create stress points. It is why the windows on airplanes are all rounded. Look up the de Haviland Comet and the series of crashes due to square cut holes for rivets and the windows
Wonderful hard work, Johan, that looked epic! I am here for the tool explanations, as I enjoy woodworking and always learn so much! And Malin, as always I so enjoy your soothing lovely natural voice and speaking pace, your choice of wording and the way you combine sounds & music. I missed seeing a few more images of the farm and of you & Vera, but it was an epic battle of the sanding, and these must be honored for what they are as well!
Hull looks really nice for a rough sanding. You should keep track of the number of sanding disks, that would be a very interesting statistic & a good over/under guessing game for everyone here for the duration. Fair winds...
Commentary and explanation of tools, techniques and requirements in English are superb and very much appreciated. Wishing I was as fluent in Svenska as you are in Engelska. Looking forward to your next offering, best regards and skåll from Canada 🍁.
Consider getting a 20" (~0.5m) box fan and attaching an air filter to the intake side. Might help control the finer ambient dust and consolidate some of the cleaning afterward. I would elevate it off the floor to keep the bigger particles out. Then vacuum out the filter during the barn cleaning process. The hull looks amazing, and I appreciated the detail around the keel in particular. 👍 Never knew so many sanders existed! 😅
Nice work - it's coming along great!!!😃 Note; Whenever I've wanted accurate shaping I've done the sanding out in the SUN, rotating the object... flat lighting isn't good... So.. Can you set up a light that can be positioned to get the light at an angle? I think you would be amazed at the ability to see raised or hollow areas... Even helps with "flat-board" sanding... 👍😎
Thank you so much for the shout out, Johan 😀 That gave me a good chuckle.
I would absolutely love to come help with the sanding but there is a long todo list waiting for me back in Trinidad. Save some sanding for me next summer and I’ll be there with bells on 😀
Link you, watching this sanding from the safe distance of Chucktown.
Happy to keep that experience a vicarious one.

Oh man, my two fav channels connecting. Heaven 🎉
Matt of the Duracelle Project youtube channel is the king of vacuum bagging
Youngbarnacles is a professional carbon fibre constructor of race boats lots of knowledge to be had on his channel to
Well, you've certainly earned one of Mads' "Oh Glorious Sanding" T-shirts after all that gritty work!
Johan is an excellent instructor who has a constant focus on the details. I am lucky to be along for the ride!
Agree great guy
Oh glorious sanding made my day! I would love to see you and Mads together!
Quoting Mads "Glorious days of sanding" is quite epic and shows how much the bane of sanding is a necessary evil for DIY sailors everywhere.
Oh yes, glorious sanding!
That boat is already a piece of art. Just splash it under a few coats of varnish.
I loved the drone shot through the fog - well done!
I love how the music you select just blends right into the background. It fits each scene perfectly and is not intrusive and doesn't overtake each scene with random noises! So tasteful!
They seem to have nailed the music from the start. Such thoughtfulness going into the storytelling.
Love the glorious sanding shoutout! 😂
And Johan is still a tool specialist! I wish I was that skilled. So does my wife.
"Oh Glorious Sanding!" That gave me a chuckle. We are in the same process of oh glorious sanding as well. Wishing you all the best.
My guess would be that the giraffe sander would be called a telescoping sander here in the US, but, alas, it is called a pole sander. Those drone shots of the fog were absolutely beautiful!! 😍
Being a tool nerd is one of the very best things about Johan
Obsoletely, the best explanation of the need for the longboard sanding...
Congratulations on the Whiskey Plank. It evokes fond memories. I know how you feel. I had the same feeling when I installed my Whiskey Plank.
Really cool foggy video shots, love seeing the seasons change on the farm! Great description of the sanding tools, look'n smooooth!!!
Johan, I'm so impressed with your knowledge, your skills and your patience 👍
Your channel is so good. It should be a series on a place like Netflix, Prime or HBO. Seriously so talented and well put together. I actually find Johan's explanation of various tools and their usefulness quite interesting.
That's a lot of discs :O, but probably just a fraction of the total needed for the whole boat! Looking forward to next weeks episode.
Funny, RAN Sailing and SailLife are my 2 preferred YT channels. Good job guys.
@saillife @fredericguiot same thought- wonderful to have them corresponding. Hope they meet up one day
Only Johan could make sanding so fascinating! Well done!
Thanks for the fun fact. I'm not surprised but fascinated and know Johan would be an exceptional tool expert. I loved the foggy morning drone footage. Thanks for sharing.
Well done. I get fed up of sanding after about 5 minutes. I don't know how you keep interested Johan. Love the video 😍

A lot of hard work there today Johan... You are doing a fine job and i am so impressed with your standard of work... Well done...
I realize you are still in "early stages", but I think the hull looks absolutely beautiful!
I suspect that Matt would be glad to help you sand wood. When it comes to fiberglass sanding, sorry but I suspect that most of us will be busy that day. 😊 Cheers.
Literally just said to my husband - ‘they should get Mads help’ - when you said ‘oh glorious sanding’! 😂
Brilliant job, and I want to compliment you on your excellent command of English. Nick

This is art🙂
A Big work again for you, and of course a glory sanding
Fantastic work!!! You are inspiring me to do more with my life! Dave from Canada.
Mads SHOULD come help. That would be epic.
Thank you💋👍👍🫡
Excited to hear about the new project!
That’s a beast of a job. Well done Johan.👍⛵️
Johan's contemplative poses juxtapose his Viking build and face
love the nod to Mads @SailLife

Your photography is always excellent, but the fog imaging brought a "WoW" out of me on this episode.
Brilliant shots with the drone
A mammoth task, the whole of Sweden should turn out for launch day!
Cheers guys! 😊
Well done, you made sanding fun to watch. Bet you could be entertaining watching paint dry! 😂

Interesting about the Sanders, thank you. Great project.
Really appreciated the tool lesson! Johan is a sanding machine.

Omg! A sanding nightmare, But you've gotta admire a guy with that many sanders, I reckon. 😄
So, after a day of sanding that evening hot shower must be close to heaven. Nice work.
Johan is a one man boatyard. Building a wooden boat with a team is hard enough but doing it alone, well chapeau to you!
I have so much to say, but words fail me and don't have the energy to type it all out here! I have always been impressed by Johan's skill and work ethic and behind every great man is a great wife! I very much appreciate Johan giving details about the tools and different aspects of each. Useful information to know for my project.
Absolutely outstanding work.

A ton of work, Johan. Yet, RAN III is looking fine. Can't wait I see her glassed up. See you next time.✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🏝️ 👙 🌞 ✨

Wow, that fog is thick. That was a great job on sanding. Well done indeed. :)
FINE BUSINESS! CHEERS FROM HERE!
DIY glorious sanding :-)

When the farmers aren’t working it must be very quiet there at the farm. 👍
beautifully shot.

The fine wood dust makes a good filler when mixed with epoxy, great for soaking up spillages too.
Verry good job 👍

Impresionante el trabajo que estáis haciendo, mis felicitaciones por todo lo conseguido hasta ahora y de manera tan profesional
