As a network/server guy, I would see if you could get a full length 21U or 42U rack since this obviously is going to be there forever. They make trays and such for your current stuff, and the new stuff you can rack mount properly. You could also get a 1U KVM setup for console access for why future servers and computers if you need it. Also run cat6 or Cat6a for any future 10GB Ethernet projects.
Lastly, for “small” installs like this, UniFi is the way to go, and you can control everything from desktop or phone app, and Synology NAS for bulk or video storage.
    Enjoyed the video!

The tier surge protection is actually recommended. You usually see it in commercial. Everything you did looks amazing. As a master electrician that came up in the commercial side I’ve always wanted to do exactly this when ever I get the chance to build my own house. It really is such a privilege to be able to have the knowledge to execute a project like this. I’ve always been so happy I chose this field. It’s never boring.

This is amazing, I have rebuilt my 103 year old farm house, and I have done everything in it, framing, plumbing, electrical, drywall.(starting building the furniture. When I was doing the electrical I did a the same thing with rooms, 20 amp for outlets, 15 amp for lights, every room separate, sub panel upstairs for all the bed rooms to minimize wire runs. Ethernet to ever single room, office, living room, and kitchen have multiple outlet circuits. My entire family was calling me crazy, saying "you don't need to do that. We don't have that, no one does stuff like that ever." But I wanted to so I did. Your house is BEAUTIFUL. You have done an amazing job. I agree with your message, if you love what you do, your going to do the best you can. I cant wait until my daughter gets into school so i can get into the trades and start working on this kind of stuff all day every day.

I love the 4 lights at the end, a properly rated switch for each size light. Classy.
I'm an HVAC tech, and I ended up with a new system over the summer as we pulled a wrong sized unit that was 4 months old and well it went home with me. I hated my old system and this new one is simply new. And free. I'm replacing it in the spring as my bedrooms still arent comfortable, but this time Im not doing it on a 90deg day and EVERYTHING will get trashed and rebuilt and I'm going with a high end system. Goal is to finally have comfortable bedrooms so all my duct work has to be redone and I'll probably need stuff like a bypass and a nice two stage or modulating furnace.
I've also rewired most of the house as an amateur with my home inspector dad, so that work is FINE I guess...but when I open my kitchen walls for duct work Im definitly adding lots of low voltage runs for a real home net work. And probably high voltage updates. My main two bedrooms already got 20a wall outlets, so I have a mix of 15a on the original circut and 20a updated on the exterior walls. 100 year old houses are fun...
Honestly doing all this insane wiring makes complete sense. You're a crazy sparky, but also everything will still be good enough once the dry wall is finished. The HVAC systems you can upgrade later ;)

I'm going to use smurf tubing on all the low voltage to allow for easy upgrades when technology changes. Only way this could be better is bending your own conduit and running RMC. But this is still awesome overkill. The house could fall down and the elect system will still be there.
Also put your own 1/4” ground bar in, add an isolation transformer, and maybe your own nuclear reactor. Used plutonium is on surplus at any reactor

_Veeeeeery_ nice work right there. I must admit, I'm quite jealous. I'm in the midst of a 2 year turned 5+ year plan to build a modest but comprehensive private recording studio.
One of the things I'm yet to get to but is of paramount importance will be the electrical for wherever this studio ends up being (I'm not yet sure if I'm going to be renovating my garage or renting/buying a space/small building). Proper electrical infrastructure will be the primary factor in making sure the many tens of thousands of dollars I've already spent in recording equipment is not only protected and operating properly but _sounding good._ Not inundated and essentially ruined with _noise_ from insufficient power, cheap components and shoddy work in the electrical systems and its associated symptoms, like ground loops, "cross talk," buzzing, hum etc.
Thinking about it leads me into deep, sullen, quiet moments of "what the hell have I gotten myself _into???_" as I myself know perhaps just less than the bare minimum about electrical systems. Which dictates that I solicit professional assistance and leaves me open to exploitation by those who can maximize their profits by taking advantage of what I don't know through inflating their prices and installing parts and systems that are far beneath the quality and price that would be necessary and quoted.
I've been through it many a time before. Either directly myself when having my basement finished and my bathroom refitted for a disabled family member whom I care for. Or indirectly when working for people who have been in the same position of having to hire electrical, carpentry, mechanical etc. professionals and then, doingnthe most learning by finding out after the fact just how screwed we got when problems begin arising from the slap-d!ck work that was done.
Or of course, turning a 5+ year endeavor into a 10 year endeavor by saving the - sh*t, I don't know - twenty, _thirty_ thousand dollars or more (probably more, yea?) to hire those companies that are unquestionably the best of the best and make their money by doing the best work for the biggest projects and clients. Albeit knowing that the price of admission for such work is going to make the already expensive endeavor of wiring up the electrical for a modest, mid-level recording studio into an e exceedingly expensive one.
Sorry for the vent. I think I'm working through the stages of grief as I type this out. Realizing that, if I don't want to build and work in a studio that's going to be constantly driving me insane having to chase down and work around a myriad of issues and noises, than I'm likely going to be *50* years old by the time I arm the tape machine and start recording in the studio for which I'm already literally sleeping on top of all the equipment I've spent gobs of money buying for it.

I did something similar for my house, but instead of running lots of 3/4" EMT into the breaker panels, I use 3" rigid Pipe & wireways on top & bottom of panels. I ran a couple of 3" EMT trunk lines to sets of large JCT boxes to tap off for various circuits in the basement. The 3" EMT are terminated in the wireways & then I route the circuits from the wireways into the breaker panels. Much easier & cheaper than running a lot of small diameter EMT. My panel is mounted on plywood with 2" rigid foam board (insulated basement walls). Plywood was painted to it presentable. I also have a whole house 8KW UPS system, with a breaker panel set up for critical loads & a UPS bypass switch. Another difference is my county requires outside disconnect switches (in case of the a fire)
As far a surge suppressors, I have one large from the main inside disconnect. Issue with those residential surge suppressors is they use Cheap MOVs which degrade with each TVS (including inductive spikes from AC motors). Maybe they have a GDT (Gas discharge Tube) which triggers at much higher voltages than MOVs. For all of the outlets & can lights I installed Ferrites (help attenuate line noise & some TVS suppression. The ferrites help with line noise from Dimmer switches, AC Motors, & SMPS). For critical loads (ie computers & electronics) I use Point of load suppressors. I have a collection of Brickwall Surge suppressors for point of load. Some of the Outlets have integrated Surge suppression, for locations its not practical to use a plug in Surge suppressor ( ie Fridge, Dishwasher, wall mount TVs), Levitron & Eaton both sell decor outlets with built in surge protection.
On the outside I ran some 2.5" PVC conduit to a few different locations & terminated in burial boxes. I haven't used any of them yet, but I plan to use them for outdoor lighting & for future sheds.
For breakers I use just the arcfault breakers but all of the outlets are Decor GFC. This way if the GFC is triggered just the one outlet is tripped & not the entire circuit. Not all of the circuits are arcfault since brushed motors can trip them (Brush motors normally create arcs when spinning on the brushes). I put the arcfault breakers for circuits required by Code.
For data. well I have 144 Cat 6a drops terminated in wall mount data rack. For low voltage I probably have another 150 runs (Coax, thermostats, Fire/Alarm systems, intercom, etc). I have a power & data run (Fiber, Cat 6a, Coax) to a 65' telecom towers for internet, antennas & PTZ IP cameras) as well as to another building (Pole barn for Ag equipment & workshop). I only used the Smurf tube marginally because it not possible to pull the heavy Cat 6a cabling through it. In my basement I filled an entire 16" joist bay with low voltage wiring (close to 300 separate cables).

You can get a free 42U rack from many companies who get rid of theirs… a lot of companies are consolidating their servers because newer servers have a ton of cores which makes VMs super easy to run and they don’t need as many racks as they used to.

Did some electrical work the other day, your work is soooo much more professional than what i did, yours is actually beautiful, good job, easy to follow and easy to troubleshoot.
Tho in my defense the space i had to work with was way smaller than this, and i ran it all in plastic tubing, 240V.
Yours can be grounded and if rats come, yours will last far longer than my plastic.

    Electrical Inspection:
Fun, did your electrical inspector take one look and say your past. Or was he relentless, determined to find one thing that he could b.... about to make himself feel good?
I can testify that sometimes it's worth making a deliberate mistake to satisfy the inspectors ego that's easily corrected.

Most people: "Conduit in residential doesn't make sense!"
    Chicagoans: "hold my beer"
Honestly looks great. I don't live in an area that requires residential conduit anymore, but if I can ever afford to build a house from the ground up, I'd really like to have everything run in pipe, especially data. Easier to service, cleaner look, just generally very nice.

Incredible work. My electrical knowledge is about as deep as it needs to be as a homeowner that doesn't want to have to call someone to replace a cadet heater, so I only understand maybe half of what you showed, but what you showed is absolutely a work of beauty.

Nicely done. It looks great! I always thought that if I ever build a house, that is how I would do it. If you want reliability, a PLC is the way to go with home automation. Nothing in the home automation realm comes close to it. But then again, its big bux.

Nah this didn't need extra memes, your commentary is way more interesting and the meme just take away from it, your whole setup is amazing and I'm jealous that you have conduit run throughout your house and I don't. Seriously this would be a dream for someone who does home networking or anything IT on a similar scale, and the future proofing is just the cherry on top, no doubt you'll have a easy time servicing this in the future, well done!
