    Grown man says fast doesn't mean fun while giggling too himself because the car was accelerating with no lag

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  ปีที่แล้ว +13

      The acceleration is very impressive, I’ve never accelerated in anything like it especially with the far from ideal road temperature/ conditions - no denying it’s fun for a few straight line pulls 👍
      Would I want to do it again and again though? No is the honest answer sadly, the rush of chasing a red line and hearing a V8 sing to 8,600rpm is what truly excites me but I also understand it’s not for everyone 👍

      @@stoneautomotiveNgl this is the most grownup response I've heard from a petrolhead. Usually it's along the lines of "You must be a woman or have a small dick to drive an ev" so for that, i salute you good sir.

      Understandable response....but....to say the Tesla isn't fun in the twisties is madness. I let go of my highly tuned e93 335i a few years ago and bought a Model S. The ONLY thing I missed was the sound of the twin turbos. I don't miss being underneath it a couple times a year. I don't miss the gas bill every month. I also don't miss the money flying out of my wallet. I save a few hundred a month on the Tesla all things considered. I'm a car guy, and I can't ever see my garage Tesla-less again. The Model 3 performance on a track is serious fun and makes my twin turbo BMW with all the M3 suspension bits seem sluggish....in a silent kinda way!

    3.1 sec 0-60, 11.5 sec 1/4 mile, 162 mph top speed, handles great, Near zero maintenance besides tires. I drive 30 miles a day round trip to work and it costs me $1.50 to charge it at home every night. Youll need a car that costs a LOT more to beat one on the street and it still wont have the convenience features the Tesla has. Driving anything else including my 650whp corvette feels archaic now.

    Maybe it’s because I’m more of a Motorsport guy than a “car guy” but I think the model 3 performance is pretty great. Sure it’s a bit expensive and I’d probably buy either the base or long range versions but it’s still pretty good for a daily driver.
    I personally hate doing oil changes. I’ve never done an exhaust modification out of desire for more sound. The only thing I enjoy is driving against a clock or opponent.
    I own a 2021 MX5 with big wheels/sticky tires and 95% of its life is spent locked in a storage garage. It comes out for performance driving events and that’s it.
    If I were to own ur E46 & E92 M3, they’d be gutted, caged and have sticky tires. They’d probably be loud too. But the idea of having a loud temperamental S65 E92 as a daily driver just doesn’t appeal.
    The way I see it. EV for the daily. And Internal Combustion for circuit , rally and off-road. Although the things you can do with EV’s on hill climb and other short duration events are pretty amazing.

    Amazing, people seemingly don't understand is (IMO) the Tesla is about balance. Driver talks about no support in the seats, stirring to soft, no noise etc., etc.... You have a Daily Driver, with enough comfort for your family and friends and speeds that zips past most high end cars, if not definitely off the line your leaving them behind! Not to mentioned the cost saved in not buying the high end car!
    The INSTANT acceleration at any given time to get anywhere you need to be in and out of traffic, NEVER get old! I don't need a engine sound! Its a nice change not to have it like when you ride in a luxury car big sedan and you don't want engine noise! Great to listen to music or talk with passenger/s or be in tuned with what you "Hear" now going on around you beside an engine. I'm at peace and I have LR3 zipping past just about everything except an M4 I believe it was that kept up! LOL! I'll take that!

    The cars are perfect for what they’re meant to do… commute. They’re not race cars, too heavy, brakes are shit for track use, a lot of people do take them to race tracks, more power to them. They’re marketed as quick/fast because people have a warped sense of what a car is supposed to be. We don’t need a screaming inefficient V8 to drive 20 miles back & forth for work or to get groceries.
    It’s an amazing car, if it’s used how it’s meant, enough get up & go to merge on highways or pass the timid nervous drivers hogging the roads & they’re safe . Can’t compare it to a purpose built 17mpg M3, we just can’t do this. Not fair lol drive it for a week straight & I guarantee you’ll start to love & appreciate it & what it offers.

    We took the jump about six months ago for our family daily. Chopped in my wife's Mazda MPS for a BMW i3s, and I love it for the job it does. As a daily driver it is comfortable, quiet, the acceleration is entertaining, the interior is stunning too. However it is devoid of emotion.
    Costs wise it is around the equivalent of a 100mpg car, it is saving us around over £200/mo on fuel after charging costs. The advantage of being able to charge overnight at home and have a full 'tank' in the morning is ace.
    Like horses, people don't use them for work anymore, just as entertainment. ICE will go the same way I think, becoming a toy not a tool.

    An EV is no substitute for a combustion engined Sports car but as a mode of transportation the Tesla is absolutely fantastic.
    Yes, a Tesla seems alien to begin with but you get used to it very quickly. You soon realise that for 90% of the driving most of us do, the Tesla is the better car.

  • @StoneMotions
    @StoneMotions ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I had a smashing time in one!...
    I also think the track mode allows you to change the bias to rear wheel drive only.
    It is the car that can do everything though, all it lacks is a soul, and driving long distances in a single go. For the money I think it's good value when you compare it to every M, RS or AMG model. You have a super quick car, technology focus with autopilot and remote controlability etc and with a relatively new application of drive (electric) that creates a whole new driving dimension; in the same way it's a different experience having front rear and AWD. Variety is the spice of life. Unfortunately for the petrolhead though, electric is going to come out on top and be the only option realistically projected for the future (until it's demonised as you say)

Like you, I’m probably too accustomed to the S54 and S65 (and the S55 for that matter) at this point to appreciate electric cars from a Petrolhead perspective. Honestly, even my 1986 BMW with the M20 gives me more thrills (over time) than the EVs do for the few moments of crazy acceleration. I think the folks who like Hellcats or do drag racing might like them more because it fits their use-case. But EVs don’t work for the track/B-Road crowd.

    On the environment front:
    The amount of gas you don't burn with this FAR outweighs whatever pollution is caused in making one. Also the batteries are 99% recyclable. Even if the whole grid was powered by coal, it would still be better to use an EV since coal plants are more efficient at making energy vs. internal combustion engines
