I have to let this be known…..In 2009 I was a sophomore in high school. My dad had left and my mom filed for divorce. She had a serious breakdown. Long story short she took off for Florida and I was left in this ancient house in southern Maine. Once winter break hit me and my friends invited the entire school over. Endless stories surround that night. But what I’ll never forget is my buddy Doug pounding this song out while we all sang along. Towards the end my good friend Luke smashed a keystone light over his head in the middle of my room. The entire place went nuts. I’m crying writing this because a lot of these kids are dead now and I’m still here. Of course I got caught the following week after my mom showed back up…. We still had garbage bags of beer cans in the basement. I’ll never take those times for granted. Ever.
What a truly powerful performance, I am so grateful to have experienced this show, Jesse and the rest of Brand New put on a show worth their legacy over the last 15 years over those two magical nights. Also to whoever captured this, you did an incredible job to portray what happened that night to the folks that weren't fortunate enough to have the luxury of being there, I thank you as well.
those two nights were so magical, i was surrounded by my best friends, seeing my favorite band play all four of their albums, and i only live 20 minutes away from the observatory. i would do anything to re-live those nights
@@flipflopsandsocks50 4 years later, I lived about 30m, I was in Orange County. I'm glad we got to share this experience, few concerts (and I used to go to lots before covid) are comparable to anything like this. My friend I went with won the canned food lottery they ran and got the 1st night's setlist signed too, bet ever since Jesse was Me too'd it's been different unfortunately :/
Wow, watching this really pushed me over the edge as far as being upset that I did not get tickets to night one of this show!!! I loved Jesse's ad libbing at the end, he could do that to every song and it would sound brilliant. I am beyond excited to see them tonight... Thank you for posting!
I read a comment on another Brand New video about a person committing suicide because all they saw in their lives was being 18 and everything before that. Being 18 is amazing and scary as fuck. It's like being separated out of patterns you never liked (like high school) but liked them because a lot of things in those times defined youth as the excuse to not give a shit. Now either those beliefs will be held firm or blown away into the wind. Hold on everyone.
I kind of agree, some of the most powerful performances I've ever seen live have been when everyone was silent and just let the band do their thing. I saw Conor Oberst last year and the crowd was silent for all the quiet bits, added so much to the atmosphere!
In this instance he means he wants the crowd to repeat "You're just jealous cause we're young and in love" to make it more like the album, it's really cool when the crowd do it, in some other videos they do :)
It’s April 2023 and I’m still screaming along to this in my car.
How crazy I was singing “you’re just jealous cause we’re young and in love” to now feeling the “I’m just jealous cause you’re young and in love”

This comment resonates with me so much, thank you for putting it into words
When I heard this song for the first time I couldnt understand, now I'm 33 and everything makes sense.

I still get the goosebumps. Take me back to monday and tuesday night. Thanks for the footage man. Keeping this memory alive.
i don't know why i'm crying in the club right now
"i'm just jealous cause you're young and in love..."
I wanted to cry for him
Really great video. This is probably the most powerful performance of this song I've seen.
This is awesome. Thank you so much for posting!
This makes me immensely sad :)
Thank you for uploading this. This is beautiful.

Ive been trying to see brand new in concert for 3 years now :( always on the east coast it seems like.
Awesome video man!
He looks so sad in this :(
What's he say at 3:38? Is it "leave it to me" as in "stop singing my song"?

I personally think it was because his ad libbing at the end would have been less effective if the crowd were shouting over him
Joe Fowler if you ever go to his shows you will notice in some songs he will move the lyrics in his songs just enough to throw the fans off
travis sheldon I've been to their shows; that doesn't answer my question.
What jesse says on the end??
You out there jonny? Hope you're okay man
He sounds so sad...
I feel bad for Jesse because he created the song to have people throw them at him.... he did it on purpose. Poor guy and his troubles
Grow up snowflake
You're just jealous 'cause we're young and in love
